As production nears on the next film in Universal's Jurassic World series, the film's cast is starting to come together. Director Gareth Edwards is helming Jurassic World 4 with a script from original Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp, and Marvel alum Scarlett Johansson is in talks to play the lead role. Now, it appears Bridgerton's Jonathan Bailey is joining the cast.

According to a new report from Deadline, Bailey is circling one of the other lead roles in Jurassic World 4. Details of the story and characters are being kept under wraps, but the film is scheduled to debut on July 2, 2025.

Bailey is well know for playing Lord Anthony Bridgerton in Netflix's smash-hit Bridgerton series. He also recently starred in the acclaimed series Fellow Travelers and will be seen in Universal's upcoming adaptation of Wicked.

Gareth Edwards Taking on Jurassic World

After Edwards was reported as the new director for Jurassic World, he appeared at an event for his latest film, The Creator, and talked a little bit about landing the dream job.

"I was about to take a break and I started writing my next idea for a film and this is the only movie that would make me drop everything like a stone and dive right in," Edwards explained. "I love Jurassic Park. I think the first movie is a cinematic masterpiece... so this opportunity is like a dream to me. And to work with Frank Marshall and Universal and David Koepp, who's writing that script, I think they're all legends. So I'm just very excited."

Story details about this new Jurassic World are being kept under wraps, but the script is being written by original Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp. Original producer Frank Marshall has also returned to produce this new film. Steven Spielberg will serve as an executive producer for Amblin Entertainment.

This next Jurassic World is going to be a new chapter of the franchise overall, meaning that it won't be involving any of the characters from the previous installments. Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard reportedly aren't coming back for a fourth film. The same goes for original Jurassic Park stars Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum, who all recently appeared in Jurassic World: Dominion.

While the Jurassic World movies didn't ever match the critical success of Spielberg's original 1993 hit, they were all incredible success stories at the box office. Jurassic World, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and Jurassic World: Dominion all made over a billion dollars at the global box office.

Former Superman Henry Cavill Expecting First Child https://comicbook.com/movies/news/former-superman-henry-cavill-first-child-natalie-viscuso/ Tue, 16 Apr 2024 01:50:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson bcd87daa-fb5a-4b35-8f3d-77a83799df4b

Superman and The Witcher star Henry Cavill is about to become a dad. On Monday night, at the red carpet premiere for his upcoming movie The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Cavill revealed in an exclusive interview with Access Hollywood that he and his girlfriend, Natalie Viscuso, are expecting their first child together. While no other details have been revealed at this time, Cavill has expressed how much he is looking forward to this new milestone. Cavill and Viscuso, who is the former Vice President of Television and Digital Studios for Legendary Entertainment, were first rumored to be dating back in 2021. In late 2022, they were confirmed to be collaborating together on the upcoming Warhammer 40K cinematic universe.

"I'm very excited about it," Cavill said of the pregnancy. "Natalie and I are both very excited about it. I'm sure you'll see much more of that."

Will Henry Cavill Return as Superman?

For years, speculation swirled as to whether or not Cavill would reprise his role as Clark Kent / Superman on the big screen, with him most recently stepping into the role in the post-credits scene of 2022's Black Adam. Since then, as James Gunn and Peter Safran have stepped in to "reset" DC Studios, it has been confirmed that Cavill will not be playing Superman going forward. David Corenswet has now been cast in the role, and will debut in Gunn's Superman movie in 2025.

"I have just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran and it's sad news, everyone. I will, after all, not be returning as Superman," Cavill wrote at the time. "After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn't the easiest, but that's life. The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that. James and Peter have a universe to build. I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and the happiest of fortunes. For those who have been by my side through the years....we can mourn for a bit, but then we must remember... Superman is still around. Everything he stands for still exists, and the examples he sets for us are still there! My turn to wear the cape has passed, but what Superman stands for never will. It's been a fun ride with you all, onwards and upwards."

What Is The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare About?

Based upon recently declassified files of the British War Department and inspired by true events, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is an action-comedy that tells the story of the first-ever special forces organization formed during WWII by UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill and a small group of military officials including author Ian Fleming. The top-secret combat unit, composed of a motley crew of rogues and mavericks, goes on a daring mission against the Nazis using entirely unconventional and utterly "ungentlemanly" fighting techniques. Ultimately their audacious approach changed the course of the war and laid the foundation for the British SAS and modern Black Ops warfare.

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is directed by Guy Ritchie, and also stars Eiza Gonzalez, Alan Ritchson, Henry Golding, Alex Pettyfer, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, Babs Olusanmokun, and Cary Elwes.

It Ends With Us: Colleen Hoover Adaptation Starring Blake Lively Delayed https://comicbook.com/movies/news/it-ends-with-us-colleen-hoover-adaptation-blake-lively-delayed/ Tue, 16 Apr 2024 01:03:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson fb919975-3fef-49b5-a05b-ab7b0820ac7a

It looks like we'll have to wait a little bit longer to see the world of Colleen Hoover on the big screen. On Monday, Sony Pictures announced that the release of the It Ends With Us movie has been delayed from June 21st to August 9th. This is already the second time that It Ends With Us has been delayed, after the film was originally slated to debut this past February before being pushed back earlier this year.

The It Ends With Us film is directed by Jane the Virgin and Five Feet Apart alum Justin Baldoni, who stars alongside Blake Lively. The cast of It Ends With Us also includes Jenny Slate and Hasan Minhaj. The script was adapted by Christy Hall, and the film is produced by Alex Saks, Jamey Heath and Hall, and executive produced by Lively, Baldoni, Hoover, Steve Sarowitz, and Andrew Calof. It is based on Hoover's 2016 smash hit book of the same name.

What Is It Ends With Us About?

It Ends With Us tells the compelling story of Lily Bloom (Blake Lively), a woman who overcomes a traumatic childhood to embark on a new life in Boston and chase a lifelong dream of opening her own business. A chance meeting with charming neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid (Justin Baldoni) sparks an intense connection, but as the two fall deeply in love, Lily begins to see sides of Ryle that remind her of her parents' relationship. When Lily's first love, Atlas Corrigan (Brandon Sklenar), suddenly reenters her life, her relationship with Ryle is upended, and Lily realizes she must learn to rely on her own strength to make an impossible choice for her future.

Hoover's book has become a phenomenon, in part thanks to the "BookTok" community on TikTok, with the title becoming the top-selling print book of 2022. That said, the book has not been without its controversy, with some taking issue for its portrayal of abusive relationships, as well as a previous attempt to publish a coloring book inspired by the novel.

What Are Blake Lively's Next Movies?

In addition to It Ends With Us, Lively is set to return as Emily in a sequel to A Simple Favor, which will reunite her with co-star Anna Kendrick and director Paul Feig. She is also set to direct an adaptation of the Bryan Lee O'Malley graphic novel Seconds, after making her directorial debut with the Taylor Swift music video "I Bet You Think About Me."

Seconds tells the story of Katie Clay, head chef at a prospering restaurant named Seconds, who obtains the ability to fix her past mistakes by writing them down in a notebook, eating a mushroom, and falling asleep. Searchlight is developing the project which has a a script by Edgar Wright, who previously adapted O'Malley for the big screen for the fan favorite Scott Pilgrim vs The World feature back in 2010. The Baby Driver and Shaun of the Dead director is also producing the film with Marc Platt. A release date for the Seconds movie has yet to be set.

The Stranger Writer/Director Veena Sud Talks Reviving the Quibi Series for a New Home https://comicbook.com/horror/news/the-stranger-movie-hulu-streaming-veena-sud-interview-quibi-maika-monroe/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 21:56:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh ea9e9758-590f-4d01-9ba3-8bd6dcd68080

The mobile-only streaming platform Quibi was poised to revolutionize how audiences consumed media, as it broke down long-form stories into digestible installments of less than ten minutes. To bring in subscribers when it launched in 2020, Quibi enlisted the talents of a number of compelling storytellers, which included writer/director Veena Sud developing the thriller series The Stranger, which starred Maika Monroe and Dane DeHaan. Sadly, one of the major setbacks the platform faced was that it launched as the coronavirus pandemic was kicking off, which meant viewers were more interested in what they could stream on their TVs. When Quibi called it quits later in 2020, it sold off its titles to The Roku Channel, but Sud wasn't content to let the project languish in an overlooked corner of TV and has brought back the project for Hulu, where it is now streaming.

The Stranger is described, "New to Los Angeles, rideshare driver Clare (Maika Monroe, star of It Follows and Neon's upcoming Longlegs) picks up Carl (Dane DeHaan, recently seen in Oppenheimer and star of HBO's The Staircase) from a home deep in the Hollywood Hills. What begins as a routine ride turns into Clare's worst nightmare: a twelve-hour fight for survival through the city's seedy underbelly. Carl is not the passenger Clare thought he was, and Clare is not easy prey...Avan Jogia (Victorious, Now Apocalypse) also stars in this thriller, coming soon to Hulu as a new feature-length film."

The Stranger marked a unique opportunity for Sud, as the story was specifically developed as an episodic experience optimized for mobile phones, though she has since reimagined the entire project to deliver genre fans a cohesive feature film.

ComicBook.com caught up with Sud to talk the experience of making the project, revisiting it all these years later, and rekindling her passion for the adventure.

ComicBook.com: When you think back on actually making the series or even writing the show, were there times when you were developing it where you thought, "You know what? I'm really excited about this, but I do wish that it was a feature film," or was that something that didn't even really dawn on you until you had this opportunity?

Veena Sud: Well, from the very get-go, at my very first meeting with [Quibi's] Jeffrey [Katzenberg], he did say, "Look, part of the perks of trying this new art form is I'm giving the artist the copyright to their own work." So that itself just opened up so many doors in my own mind, and for all of us, that we were basically given the opportunity to make this one very, very, very, very, very specific type of thing that most likely could not live anywhere else, but if we were crafty enough, we could figure out how to make it live on and on and on and on in whatever form.

What I chose, just because the math made sense, it was 10-minute episodes. Whatever it was, 10 episodes, I don't even remember now, but it was basically the length of a feature film and it followed, if not the true three-act structure, there was an inherent, usual hero's journey in it because it was a limited series as conceptualized by Quibi. I did know going in -- now I have to think about this as episodic, but also how it can come together as a feature.

We had to shoot it that way, which was even more interesting. It was such a challenge for all of us. My DP, Paul Yee, is just a genius, and my production designer, Jenny M?ller, was amazing, because we spent so much time talking about, "Let's see something one way but continue to be able to have the capacity at some point to walk away with footage and see it another way, horizontal versus vertical."

As you were revisiting and re-imagining the material, was there something that you came across that made you think, "Ah, if only I could have told 2019 Veena this while on set,"? Is there anything like that where you thought, "I wish that there was something I had done differently when bringing the series to life back then,"?

Well, that's a really good question, because I think all of us ... I've looked back at every single thing I've done, and I was just like, "Oh, good God. Seriously, you wrote that, you thought that?" I think that structurally, though, in this specific incident, no, because it was designed from the get as both. The big question was does it work as both?

I knew after looking at the finished Quibi series, yes, it worked as the TV episodic. But it wasn't until me and my editor sat down and we put it all together and we smoothed out and we took some shots out and replaced with others that we said, "Does this even work? Let's take a look." It felt like it did, and for people who watched it on Quibi, what this version allowed was this much more material and this much more material, because the screen now was this versus that.

Well, and that's another thing, because I'm someone who watched not only the original version, but also this version. And so, for other people who maybe watched it originally and now it's a different thing and it's coming to Hulu, what do you think might be the biggest difference other than necessarily just the platform? Structurally or story-wise, what would be the reason that is so fulfilling for people to revisit in this recontextualized format?

I think so much of what I imagined when I was thinking of it as a feature was the visceral pleasure of walking through a city that we think we know that we don't know. And so, I purposely picked locations that aren't the typical L.A. things. I feel like L.A., it's such an iconic city, but the parts of the city in the film, it's the noir L.A. I was like, "This is a noir city. Let's see it as such." And so, I think the visceral pleasure of being able to see this much, this big on your big home TV or on your laptop is certainly a different experience than this.

What I loved about the tiny, vertical experience was we created this thing called, or we didn't create it but we thought about it when we were shooting, Z depth. Instead of our usual left, right, expansive, blah, blah, we had to think about going into the screen. That's why we shot things behind her when she's moving forward. I talked about this before, we pushed the candy aisles closer to her in the gas station so you would feel things moving so you wouldn't be bored just seeing a floating head like we are in FaceTime with each other. It created its own visual language, which was propulsive. I think this visual language of this story is very noir, classically noir. So in the same way that kitchen table dramas feel different than epics, it's a visceral kind of difference and experience in the story.

Something very specific that maybe I paid more attention to or resonated with me more than you had even initially planned is the ringtone in the movie, because any time you're watching a movie and someone's using, say, an Android product and you hear the Apple ringtone, I'm always thinking, "Wait, what? What's going on here?" So, the ringtone was this very unique, creepy, familiar sound but had something very ominous about it. Can you talk at all about just what that process was like finding that specific tone, if it was just something you came across, or if it was designed specifically for this story?

The ringtone on Dane, the bad guy's text, was very purposeful and was designed. That was a Quibi invention. And, again, I think what was so pleasurable about Quibi is that we had to reinvent things and be like, "Okay, how do I get attention? How do I get people to look at phones when we are looking at 20 million things on our phones? And what is the experience of a phone?" The one common denominator for literally, oh, my gosh, every single person on the face of the Earth is we all have an opening rush when we hear our phone go off. And so, I was like, "Okay, how do we use that thing that we're feeling to scare the sh-t out of us?"

We talked about, every time an episode would drop in a person's phone who subscribed to Quibi, that ringtone would hit. And at one point, we were talking about if we dropped all of the episodes over the course of 12 hours, every hour you would get that creepy-ass ringtone. So mid-season, when it's at the scariest and bad guys chasing them through the streets of L.A. at 2 a.m., you get that ringtone. You wake up, and you're like, "Oh, my God." Then you watch the thing, because it's addictive, and then you go to sleep and maybe even dream about it.

It was like, again, how do we engage with a thing that engages with us versus the traditional television or movie screen that we sit in front and take in? We get to engage back and forth with it, so that was the purpose of a very specific ringtone. When you heard it on your phone you would know exactly what it was, and you've become acclimated over the course of many episodes to have, not a dopamine reaction, but a reaction of fear and trepidation to it.

This journey with Maika as Clare, there's definitely a resolution, but it can't help but leave you wondering what is next in her life. Was this something traumatic she never recovered from? Was this something that was empowering to her? For you, revisiting this as a creative, has that sparked some storytelling flames within you of wanting to maybe revisit Clare's character and what would be next for her? Or was this almost more of a closing of the book, given the tumultuous journey of Quibi and you finally get this opportunity to make sure that audiences get to check out this thing you put so much heart and soul into?

I think for any writer or creator, it's always like I'm intrigued by what organically comes next. So, yeah, I don't close chapters very well. I keep trying to get my TV shows back on TV. I'm the zombie TV creator, and so nothing ever dies.

I feel that, who knows? Especially given what's going to happen later in 2024. This movie is about schooling and beating toxic masculinity, and we're in real life about to f-cking go down that road again, potentially. Who knows what will come out? But I do love the idea, and I always love the idea of telling a story where we get to win at the end. She won, and she changed, and she went from a woman who understandably cries in the face of extreme terror to a woman that says, "No more."

The Stranger is now streaming on Hulu.

Marvel Studios Hit With Layoffs https://comicbook.com/movies/news/marvel-studios-layoffs-mcu-marvel-entertainment-disney/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 21:41:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson 4cc81116-e9ec-4471-8f91-3f93f6270495

Marvel Entertainment is the latest corner of the entertainment industry to reportedly be hit with layoffs. On Monday afternoon, it was reported that the company has laid off fifteen employees, both at Marvel Entertainment's New York offices and Marvel Studios' offices in Burbank. According to reports, the layoffs included a number of junior employees at Marvel Studios' production and development arms.

The decision was reportedly made amid the company's efforts to both streamline its slate of upcoming projects, something that both Marvel Studios CEO Kevin Feige and Disney CEO Bob Iger have hinted at the company doing. Marvel Studios currently only has one film, Deadpool & Wolverine, scheduled for its 2024 slate. Other layoffs were reportedly done to cut redundancies caused when Marvel Entertainment was folded into Marvel Studios in the spring of 2023.

Will Marvel Studios Make Less Movies?

Iger has hinted that Marvel Studios might be scaling back on future projects, both with regards to Disney+ original series and theatrical ventures. As Iger put it, the franchise will be able to better prioritize Marvel projects -- and the needs of the audience -- going forward.

"A lot of people think it's audience fatigue, it's not audience fatigue. They want great films," Iger said during an interview with CNBC last month. "And if you build it great, they will come and there are countless examples of that. Some are ours and some are others. Oppenheimer is a perfect example of that. Just a fantastic film," Iger said. "Focus is really important. We reduced the output of Marvel, both number of films they make, and the number of TV shows, and that really becomes critical, but I feel good about the team. I feel good about the IP we're making. I talked about a lot of the projects. We look years ahead, really. And it's iterative."

What Is Marvel Studios' Next Movie?

In Deadpool & Wolverine, Deadpool will change the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Wolverine. The film will star Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson / Deadpool, Hugh Jackman as Logan Howlett / Wolverine, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Carlysle, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Stefan Kapi?i? as Piotr Rasputin/Colossus, Matthew Macfadyen as Agent Paradox, and Emma Corrin in a currently-unknown role. Jennifer Garner is expected to reprise her role as Elektra from the Daredevil and Elektra films of the 2000s. Deadpool & Wolverine is directed by Shawn Levy, with a script from Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

"As far as crafting the Deadpool and Wolverine story, I just felt privileged every day because you're talking about two massive movie stars in their most iconic roles," Levy shared in a recent interview with ScreenRant. "It also gave me an opportunity. It's the third Deadpool movie, but it's not Deadpool 3. It's a different thing that's very much Deadpool & Wolverine. And it's not trying to copycat anything from the first two movies. They were awesome, but this is a two-hander character adventure."

Keanu Reeves Will Play Shadow in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/keanu-reeves-shadow-sonic-the-hedgehog-3-paramount/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 20:47:00 +0000 Marc Deschamps df14db90-d600-43a0-ad6f-d8aee59fd52a

According to The Hollywood Reporter, actor Keanu Reeves will be appearing in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The John Wick star will be taking on the role of Shadow, ending months of rumors and questions. Many fans believed that actor Hayden Christensen would play the role, but that was recently debunked by YouTuber John Campea. Now we have official word who will be voicing the iconic character, and it should make a lot of Sega fans very happy! Shadow has been a fan favorite since his debut back in 2001, and many fans were excited when the character showed up at the end of Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

Unfortunately, Shadow's appearance in that movie was a brief stinger, and the character did not speak any lines. Instead, the character appeared in a glass tube, which is a reference to the fact that Shadow is a genetically-engineered construct in the video games. That stinger seemed to imply that the Paramount film will follow Shadow's story closely from Sonic Adventure 2 on Dreamcast, where Shadow first made his debut.

At this time, little else is known about what role Shadow will play. The character started as an antagonist, but later became more of an anti-hero. He and Sonic have worked together, but Shadow is hardly a friend; Sonic would probably be happy to have Shadow as a pal alongside Tails, Knuckles, and Amy, but Shadow is more of a cranky loner. Reeves should be able to nail that dynamic quite well!

The Year of Shadow

At the end of Sonic Adventure 2, Shadow seemingly died fighting alongside Sonic, but the character proved too popular for Sega to leave behind; Shadow returned just two years later in the game Sonic Heroes. Since then, the character has been a recurring character in the franchise, appearing in his own spin-off game in 2005, and on shows like Sonic Prime. This year, Sega will be celebrating the character all year long with the "Year of Shadow." Part of that celebration will include the release of Sonic x Shadow Generations, an enhanced remaster that will include new sections focused on Shadow. At this time, the game does not have a set release date, but it is expected this fall on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Cast and Release Date

At this time, information about Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is fairly limited. In addition to Keanu Reeves, the cast will include Ben Schwartz (Sonic), Colleen O'Shaughnessey (Tails), Idris Elba (Knuckles), James Marsden (Tom Wachowski), Tika Sumpter (Maddie Wachowski), and Lee Majdoub (Agent Stone). While there had been some speculation about his retirement, Sonic 3 will also see the return of Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik. The movie will release in theaters on December 20th.

Watch Will Smith Perform "Men in Black" With J. Balvin at Coachella https://comicbook.com/movies/news/will-smith-men-in-black-j-balvin-coachella/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 19:56:00 +0000 Timothy Adams 411a3858-3cbc-4cfd-8777-b59385891b82

Will Smith made a special appearance at Coachella to perform his hit single "Men In Black" with J Balvin. It may have been a while since Smith reminded his fans that he's an award-winning rapper, but Coachella is the perfect location to make a comeback. Of course, "Men In Black" is named after the titular movie Smith starred in alongside Tommy Lee Jones back in 1997. The actor will reunite with Martin Lawrence for the fourth movie in the Bad Boys franchise later this year, but first, it's time to hit the dance floor with a throwback to "Men In Black."

Coachella's Sunday night lineup included a set by the "Prince of Reggaeton," J Balvin. Will Smith, joined by a dance crew all dressed in Men In Black white-and-black attire, joined Balvin on stage, which also had a massive alien head as part of the setup. Will Smith performed the entire "Men In Black" song, taking time to get some audience participation in as well. The set ended with the Men In Black dancers pulling J Balvin off stage as Smith lifted one of the memory-erasing devices from the movies in his hand.

Bad Boys: Ride or Die trailer released

Next up for Will Smith is Bad Boys: Ride or Die, the newly-titled movie in the Bad Boys franchise. The movie debuted its first trailer at the end of March, with Smith and Martin Lawrence reprising their roles as Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, respectively. The plot of the movie sees the two Miami Police detectives forced to clear the name of the deceased Captain Howard, with Mike and Marcus being framed in the process.

Bad Boys for Life directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are returning to helm the project. A Bad Boys 4 set video from May 2023 showed Smith and Lawrence in the middle of a gunfight. TMZ.com obtained footage near the set of Bad Boys: Ride or Die, featuring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence being followed by the film crew as they walk down a parking lot at night. As they're making their way through the parking lot, Smith and Lawrence's characters are ambushed and duck behind a black van as they return gunfire, with one individual shown laying on the ground either wounded or dead. An earlier scene was also captured from the Atlanta set of the duo on an eight-story ledge as Smith successfully talked Lawrence down while the latter was wearing a polka dot hospital gown.

Bad Boys: Ride or Die opens in theaters on June 7th.

Rust Armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed Sentenced to 18 Months in Prison https://comicbook.com/movies/news/rust-armorer-hannah-gutierrez-reed-sentenced-to-18-months-in-prison/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 19:51:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame 36670931-d250-4e74-a590-f31d25e87429

Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who served as the armorer on Rust, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison as a result of the fatal shooting that took place on that set. Gutierrez-Reed was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the death of cinematography Halyna Hutchins, who died after a prop gun discharged, firing a live bullet into her while she was preparing for a shot. Director Joel Souza was also injured by the shot, which came from a revolver held by actor and executive producer Alec Baldwin. Baldwin, who is also facing charges, claims he never pulled the trigger.

Initial charges against Baldwin were dismissed, but prosecutors returned to the case later. Much of Baldwin's defense is expected to rest on Gutierrez-Reed's culpability in the shooting.

"You alone turned a safe weapon into a lethal weapon," Judge Mary Marlow Sommer told Gutierrez-Reed, handing down the 18-month sentence, which is the maximum allowed by the law. "But for you, Ms. Hutchins would be alive, a husband would have his partner and a little boy would have his mother."

As the armorer on set, Gutierrez-Reed was responsible for the care and handling of the firearms used in the production of Rust. It has never been established how the live rounds managed to get onto the film's set, but early reports claimed that members of the crew were taking the prop guns out for recreational shooting after hours. Both Gutierrez-Reed and Baldwin have been criticized for not detecting the live rounds before the gun ever went off.

In the weeks leading up to the fatal accident, there had reportedly been other safety issues surrounding guns on the set, with two different guns misfiring a total of three times. According to reports, Baldwin's stunt double accidentally fired two blank rounds from what he had been told was a "cold" or unloaded gun (Baldwin also says he was told the gun was cold before he took it). The third misfire, which also involved a blank rather than a live round, was by the movie's prop master, Sarah Zachary, who claimed she shot herself in the foot with a blank while re-loading a revolver.

During the course of the trial, prosecutors depicted Gutierrez-Reed as a habitual drug user, who partied all night and came into work hung over. They also claim that she was in possession of cocaine and that, shortly after the shooting, she gave it to a friend to hide it from law enforcement. When Gutierrez-Reed's attorneys lobbied for a light sentence last week, prosecution fired back, telling the judge that they did not believe she had genuine remorse for her actions, and that other charges she faced suggested she was a danger to the community.

Gutierrez-Reed was found not guilty of evidence tampering -- a charge that related to the alleged cocaine possession -- back in March. Had she been found guilty of evidence tampering, her sentence could have been as much as three years.

In the time since the shooting, Gutierrez-Reed has left Hollywood behind and acted as a social media manager. Gutierrez-Reed is the stepdaughter of Thell Reed, a longtime armorer and weapons consultant on many Hollywood productions. Gutierrez-Reed's defense said numerous times that she has been helping to care for her father, who is struggling with cancer. It is not immediately evident whether this is Reed, or Gutierrez-Reed's biological father, since both the family and news reports interchangeably refer to Reed as her father and stepfather without much distinction.

Gutierrez-Reed also has some outstanding charges from an unrelated incident, where she is accused of smuggling a gun past security at a bar.

Coyote vs. Acme Could Still See Release https://comicbook.com/anime/news/coyote-vs-acme-could-still-be-released-report/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 19:11:00 +0000 Adam Barnhardt c3e97e74-3d68-472c-8978-15747f351ab6

Coyote vs. Acme may not be dead after all. Weeks after the screenwriter behind the hybrid live-action and animated film said the film was still being shopped around Hollywood, a new report from the New York Times suggests Warner Bros. isn't ready to give up on the picture just quite yet. According to the paper, a Warner Bros. spokesperson said reports implying the studio is looking to destroy the film in exchange for a $40 million tax write-off are "inaccurate."

The method of film cancellations has become a worrying norm for filmmakers, with studios opting to cancel films in order to receive tax benefits rather than the money the film could make at the box office.

"As far as I know, it's ongoing. I think we're all pretty heartbroken about it. We hope it will somehow find its home and not end up stuck in a vault for the rest of time. That would be a great resolution," writer Samy Burch said last year. "I know that they have been screening places and I think they still are. I hope that I'm allowed to say that. I'm going completely rogue here. It's just the best group of people. Dave Green, who directed it, I just love so much. Will Forte is amazing in the movie. I've seen the final cut of the completed film and I'm very proud of it."

Coyote vs. Acme director Dave Green echoed the sentiment on a social media post of his own, late last year.

"For three years, I was lucky enough to make a movie about Wile E. Coyote, the most persistent, passionate, and resilient character of all time. I was surrounded by a brilliant team, who poured their souls into this project for years. We were all determined to honor the legacies of these historic characters and actually get them right," Green shared on social media. "Along the ride, we were embraced by test audiences who rewarded us with fantastic scores. I am beyond proud of the final product, and beyond devastated by WB's decision. But in the spirit of Wile E. Coyote, resilience and persistence win the day."

Burch wrote the screenplay from a story by James Gunn and Jeremy Slater. The film starred John Cena as the head of Acme, Will Forte as Wile E. Coyote's lawyer, and Deadly Class star Lana Condor in an undisclosed role.

New Romeo and Juliet Teased by Hunger Games and Heartstopper Stars https://comicbook.com/irl/news/new-romeo-and-juliet-teased-by-hunger-games-and-heartstopper-stars/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 19:06:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame b23f1e10-aaaa-4ebe-a5fb-dcd45c1e5b10

Kit Conner, star of Heartstopper, and Shazam: Fury of the Gods star Rachel Zegler shared a pair of matching, cryptic images to their Instagram feeds today which, taken together, suggest the pair are working on an adaptation of Romeo & Juliet. There's no further detail, so nobody can be totally sure whether it's a screen or stage adaptation. The background -- which appears to feature teddy bears -- could suggest a modern setting (a la Baz Luhrmann's famous 1996 film adaptation), or could just be a style choice by whoever put the promo images together. So far, there doesn't appear to be any reporting that gives a clearer idea than what's right in front of us.

This come on the heels of reports that a stage version of the Shakespeare tragedy, starring Tom Holland and Francesca Amewudah-Rivers, has been the subject of racist backlash. Zegler, who also appeared in last year's The Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, faced similar backlash following her casting as Snow White.

You can see the images below.

Over at Broadway World, they suggested that some fans think this is may be the Diane Paulus-directed production of Romeo & Juliet, which they're hoping to bring to the American Repertory Theater next season. However, in that same article, they say the Theater has no plans to make any casting announcements soon.

The Holland/Amewudah-Rivers version of Romeo & Juliet is headed to Broadway itself after selling out on London's West End, suggesting that the play will have a strong presence in New York in the coming months.

Romeo and Juliet is one of William Shakespeare's tragedies and, along with Hamlet is one of the most frequently-performed plays in the history of English-language theatre. The story centers on two young lovers who come from feuding families, and the bloody fallout from their romance. One of the best-known plays of all time, Romeo & Juliet has become a literary touchstone and has been iterated on too many times to count.

In Heartstopper, teens Charlie and Nick discover their unlikely friendship might be something more as they navigate school and young love. The series, which stars Conner, streams on Netflix, and its third season is expected in October.

How James Bond Inspired Henry Cavill's Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare Character https://comicbook.com/movies/news/how-james-bond-inspired-henry-cavills-ministry-of-ungentlemanly-warfare-character/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 16:27:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame 5d407a07-3482-4e1e-bc70-36eb36f15f54

Guy Ritchie's new movie The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is not only based on true events -- loosely -- but specifically, based on declassified files from the British navy, and features some of the real-life characters who inspired James Bond. Ian Fleming, who himself was part of the unit, and reportedly based Bond on the memory of a fellow soldier who didn't make it through the war -- here, played by Cavill. The story centers on a blue collar and ragtag group of military officials, and exudes the kind of retro-spy energy that defines movies like Kingsman. Cavill lends a fun energy to the trailer, too, with an expressive, over-the-top performance and a wild beard.

While that doesn't necessarily sound too Bond-like, you can trust that any British action star playing a character like this is going to have a little bit of that DNA in the performance. Cavill explained his process to us during an interview in support of the film.

"Via the script, actually. That was my first access point, and then I read the book, which the script was based upon, and that's where I got all my info," Cavill said. "Then, really, we kind of just created this hyperbolic version of this character to fit into this movie. But there's not a huge amount written about these guys, because they were obviously fairly 'Secret Squirrel' types."

He added, "Major Gus March-Phillips, the character I play, was also an amateur poet and author, and he has written a book -- I believe -- with a character that was based upon the kind of adventures he had had. And had he not died during World War II, there's a chance he would have beaten Ian Fleming to the punch of writing a James Bond-type character."

Here's the official synopsis for The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare:

Directed and co-written for the screen by Guy Ritchie (Sherlock Holmes, The Gentlemen, Wrath of Man), and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer (Top Gun: Maverick, Pirates of the Caribbean, National Treasure), The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare stars Henry Cavill (Man of Steel, Mission: Impossible - Fallout), Eiza Gonz?lez (Baby Driver), Alan Ritchson (TV's Reacher), Alex Pettyfer (In Time), Hero Fiennes Tiffin (After series), Babs Olusamokun (Dune), Henrique Zaga (Beyond the Universe), Til Schweiger (Inglourious Basterds), with Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians) and Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride).

Lionsgate presents, in association with Black Bear, a Jerry Bruckheimer Films / Toff Guy production. Screenplay by Paul Tamasy & Eric Johnson and Arash Amel & Guy Ritchie. Directed by Guy Ritchie.

Evil Dead Spinoff Director Offers Update on New Film https://comicbook.com/horror/news/evil-dead-spinoff-sequel-status-update-plans-sebastien-vanicek/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 16:26:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh 7fdb1bf6-8af4-4b5d-94cc-1edfebbc2ef5

Last year saw the release of the Evil Dead spin-off film Evil Dead Rise, with its financial success resulting in the announcement that director S?bastien Vani?ek would be developing a new entry for the franchise, though he recently dodged offering many concrete details on the project due to how early in the scripting stages it is. While the big-screen entries in the series have included a trilogy of films starring Bruce Campbell, followed by a reboot in 2013 and then last year's Evil Dead Rise utilizing the Necronomicon as its connective tissue to its predecessors, it's currently unknown how, or if, this upcoming project will feature substantial connections to previous films.

When asked by Screen Rant about the upcoming film's connections to previous chapters, Vani?ek replied, "I would love to answer this question, but we are in the early process of the writing, so we have so many questions. We just wrote stuff with my co-writer, it's the same co-writer I wrote Infested with, so I'm working with my team, I'm really glad. But we are in the process of building our story, our characters and everything, and we are chatting with each other. There's so many ideas coming from everywhere. For the moment, we are in the sandbox, and we haven't started to build a castle, we are just gathering the best sand, and as soon as I have the best sand, I will start to build a castle."

Despite Fede ?lvarez developing a reboot with original director Sam Raimi, star Campbell, and original producer Rob Tapert all supporting the endeavor and even producing the project, the 2013 Evil Dead failed to resonate with fans as strongly as the filmmakers had hoped and never earned a continuation. Instead, the franchise pivoted to the small screen for three seasons of Ash vs. Evil Dead.

Earlier this year, Evil Dead Rise star Lily Sullivan avoided directly confirming whether she would be returning to the series, though teased that such conversations have happened.

"There's been many, many conversations, many alt paths, many possibilities, which are all quite whack and fun and great. And whatever ends up coming to fruition, I'm excited for it. But yeah, I can't say anything on it though, but yeah, excited," Sullivan previously shared with ComicBook.com. "It's all literally up to the universe of the Evil Dead gods. In a great way, until you cross the bridge, that's just what it is. The blessings of this industry, and the curse, you have to walk into the unknown, so people should also walk into Monolith. Look at that."

Stay tuned for updates on S?bastien Vani?ek's Evil Dead spinoff.

Melissa Barrera Teases Big Plans After Scream Firing https://comicbook.com/horror/news/melissa-barrera-next-movies-roles-after-scream-7-firing/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 15:48:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw e55f21eb-3db7-4832-98f7-8cc7b45b9232

Former Scream series star Melissa Barrera is re-teaming with her former Scream V and VI directors Radio Silence (Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett) for the new horror film Abigail this month. That's a big deal for Barrera, who has had a turbulent year in the industry. The War in Gaza sparked many reactions from Hollywood celebrities, but Barrera's outspoken pro-Gaza stance got her fired from the Scream franchise, just when she was gearing up for production on Scream VII, which would have presumably been a climax to her trilogy arc as Sam Carpenter, the troubled daughter of original Scream movie killer, Billy Loomis.

When Melissa Barrera was fired from Scream 7, many wondered if she would also be blackballed from Hollywood altogether. In a new interview with Collider's Ladies' Night, Barrera let host Perri Nemiroff know that her career as an actress is still very much alive and thriving.

When asked how things are going for her since being fired from Scream, Barrera said: "Just continuing to put myself out there. Unafraid. Because I'm here to stay. [Laughs] So just continuing to audition -- I still have a lot of things that I wanna do. I have a lot of dreams that I want to accomplish -- a lot of different movies that I want to do."

With Abigail, Barrera has a prime opportunity to once again prove that she's a standout in the 'Scream Queen' lane of horror. With two horror franchises (Scream and Abigail) on her resume, there's even an opportunity for Barrera to do more than horror - career growth she's definitely interested in pursuing:

"I wanna produce, I wanna direct so there's so much that I can busy myself with," she said later in the interview. "Focusing on something that happened and that already happened and it's not ... It's nothing ... There are more important things that are happening in the world and that's, you know, that was just a little hiccup. I'm good."

Melissa Barrera doesn't just credit herself with finding the peace of mind to move forward after Scream - she credits her team, which has been on the frontlines of confronting the controversy over her firing:

"Actors aren't the person you talk to, ever. You always talk to their representatives and that includes publicists, so they are my face , basically. They are an extension of me. So it's really important, to me, that they are nice people, that they are respectful and polite... We are on the same page in a lot of things , and so I feel very, very lucky and fortunate that I have a great team all around. My publicists have been incredible in the last six months of my life , and it's just been amazing to have that support, because it's important. It can be make-or-break for your mental health to feel that your team has your back, or that you're alone, [it] can be terrible."

Abigail will be in theaters on Friday.

Original Blair Witch Project Star Blasts New Movie From Lionsgate, Blumhouse https://comicbook.com/horror/news/original-blair-witch-actor-joshua-leonard-blasts-reboot-blumhouse-lionsgate/ Sun, 14 Apr 2024 23:59:00 +0000 Adam Barnhardt d3261a8c-72fb-4879-9680-930d6af29966

Blair Witch Project, one of the most well-known staples of the horror genre, is getting a reboot. Although the original found-footage feature received two sequels, Lionsgate and Blumhouse are now teaming up on a complete reboot of the franchise as the first movie in a new pact between the outlets. Though the news might excite fans of the cult classic, some of the actor's involved in the original picture aren't especially thrilled, including actor Joshua Leonard.

Leonard took to Instagram this week to share a passionate response to the news, railing against the studio's treatment of himself and his co-stars for the original film.

"So, this is MY face on a press release for a film being made by two major studios - both I've worked for, both I respect. The WEIRD PART is that I didn't know anything about it until a friend sent me a 'congrats' screenshot yesterday. My frustration is compounded b/c I've been trying to get @lionsgate to engage for over a month about a BWP charity screening I'm putting together for @opositivefest to raise money for artists without healthcare, and NO ONE will get back to me," Leonard said alongside a series of screenshots detailing the news.

Leonard then went through a series of statements showing just how much money he and his co-stars have missed out on, despite the film's wide-raning success.

"In 1999, BWP's OG distributor claimed to have released the most profitable independent film ever (bought for 1M, grossed 250M+), while internally they told us that they were actually losing money from marketing expenses... so WE might wind up owing THEM $," he added. "Because we used our real names in the first film, the studio claimed copyright. We had to take them to federal court to win OUR NAMES back. A Hollywood insider told the press that we (actors) were paid 4M dollars as a buyout for our ownership points, while in reality, we made 300k... and NEVER saw another dime. (After buying a car and paying off his student loans, Mike was back moving furniture within 12 months of the release, while still on magazine covers.)"

Although the actor says he's excited fans are still thrilled with the film after the better part of three decades, his frustration with Hollywood's treatment of the franchise is something that continues to upset him.

"I'm so proud of our little punk-rock movie, and I LOVE the fans who keep the flames burning," Leonard concluded. "But at this point, it's 25 years of disrespect from the folks who've pocketed the lion's share (pun intended) of the profits from OUR work, and that feels both icky and classless."

The Blair Witch Project is now streaming on The Roku Channel while its 2016's Blair Witch followup can be seen on Tubi.

Ryan Coogler's Vampire Film With Michael B. Jordan Kickstarts Production https://comicbook.com/horror/news/ryan-coogler-vampire-film-with-michael-b-jordan-starts-production/ Sun, 14 Apr 2024 23:02:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 93591487-464b-41a5-a05f-771c2df2a00e

Creed and Black Panther director Ryan Coogler is reteaming up with Michael B. Jordan for an untitled vampire film at Warner Bros. It was confirmed last month that the movie would be heading into theaters in 2025, and it's also set to star Delroy Lindo, Hailee Steinfeld, Wunmi Mosaku, and Jack O'Connell. This week, cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw took to Instagram to tease that production on the new film has begun.

"Get ready. ? ? ?," Arkapaw captioned the post. You can check out the post, which hides the movie's title, below:

What Is Ryan Coogler's New Movie About?

According to previous reports, not much is known about the film. While folks have been referring to it as "Ryan Coogler's vampire movie," it's only been confirmed that the film is a supernatural thriller. There have been rumors that the movie will be set in the Jim Crow-era South and will feature vampires in addition to southern supernatural traditions. There have also been reports that Jordan is playing twins in the project. The Hollywood Reporter previously said there were whispers of Lindo's role having a "musical element."

Coogler will be producing the untitled project alongside Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian. Two-time Academy Award-winning composer Ludwig G?ransson, who has scored all four of Coogler's previous films, will executive produce the new movie alongside Rebecca Cho and Will Greenfield.

This project marks Coogler's fifth feature film, all of which have also involved both Jordan and G?ransson. Jordan starred in 2013's Fruitvale Station, 2015's Creed, and 2018's Black Panther. He returned for a small role in 2021's Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, keeping their collaboration streak intact. G?ransson composed the music for all four of those films, winning his first Oscar for his work on Black Panther. He recently earned his second Academy Award for scoring Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer.

Is Blade Still Happening?

All this talk of a potential vampire movie from Marvel creatives has fans speculating about Blade once again. Marvel fans are still waiting on updates about the MCU's Blade, which is also supposed to feature Lindo.

Bassam Tariq was originally slated to direct Blade with Stacy Osei-Kuffour penning the script, but they exited two months before production was originally supposed to start. Yann Demange stepped in as director while Michael Green was hired as screenwriter. Currently, it is still unclear when the film will start production. As for the cast, Mahershala Ali is still signed on as the titular character. It was previously reported that Lindo and Mia Goth were also signed on to the project, and there has been no news suggesting they've also departed. However, Aaron Pierre recently confirmed he is no longer attached to the project.

"We're working on it. That's the best I could tell you," Ali said in a recent chat with Entertainment Weekly. "I'm really encouraged with the direction of the project. I think we'll be back at it relatively soon."

Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan's untitled movie is set to open in theaters on March 7, 2025. Stay tuned to ComicBook.com for more updates on the film.

Deadpool & Wolverine Is "Not Deadpool 3" According to Director https://comicbook.com/marvel/news/deadpool-wolverine-is-not-deadpool-3-according-to-director/ Sun, 14 Apr 2024 22:03:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 06e9500e-1ba1-4ba1-8678-919d97fcac66

CinemaCon came to an end in Las Vegas earlier this week, and many major studios teased their upcoming films, including Disney. There was a big presentation that features a peak at some of Marvel's upcoming projects, including Deadpool & Wolverine. During the event, director Shawn Levy spoke with various outlets and talked about everything from avoiding leaks to the Taylor Swift rumors. While chatting with ScreenRant, Levy also explained why the most isn't Deadpool 3.

"As far as crafting the Deadpool and Wolverine story, I just felt privileged every day because you're talking about two massive movie stars in their most iconic roles," Levy shared. "It also gave me an opportunity. It's the third Deadpool movie, but it's not Deadpool 3. It's a different thing that's very much Deadpool & Wolverine. And it's not trying to copycat anything from the first two movies. They were awesome, but this is a two-hander character adventure."

What Is Deadpool & Wolverine About?

Deadpool & Wolverine was helmed by Shawn Levy from a script written by Bob's Burgers' Wendy Molyneaux and Lizzie Molyneaux-Loeglin, with Deadpool and Deadpool 2 writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick also returning to contribute to the script. Not much is known about the plot, but there has been a lot of speculation and exciting teases.

In addition to Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool/Wade Wilson and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Deadpool & Wolverine will also star Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Carlysle, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Stefan Kapi?i? as Piotr Rasputin/Colossus, Emma Corrin, and Matthew Macfadyen.

"I always wanted Hugh to come back," Reynolds explained in a previous interview with Collider. "My first meeting with Kevin Feige when Disney bought Fox years ago, maybe three years ago, or three and a half, four years ago, I'm not sure, was about doing a movie with the two of us, a Deadpool/Wolverine movie. And that was not possible at the time. And then Hugh just happened to call at that perfect moment and express that he'd be interested in coming back and doing this one more time. And the contents of that conversation, I'll let Hugh, because I know it's only inevitable that you and Hugh are going to speak at some point soon, I'm sure. I'll let Hugh answer that on his own. But he expressed interest in coming back, and then it was my job to take that to Kevin Feige one more time and sell it."

While speaking with the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Levy addressed the many wild rumors surrounding the film and talked about the movie's connection to the greater MCU.

"I'm so wary of giving anything away because I've learned the hard way that even with a few titles - like any Marvel title - everything and anything you say can lead to not only rumors but misinformation. I'll just say this: It's very much part of the MCU, what a privilege, what a wealth of resources and knowledge."

Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters on July 26th.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Hayden Christensen Rumor Possibly Debunked https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/sonic-the-hedgehog-3-hayden-christensen-rumor-debunked-shadow/ Sun, 14 Apr 2024 21:05:00 +0000 Marc Deschamps a59cc4c5-0ceb-4fe1-ac18-57500afcff79

When Sonic the Hedgehog 3 releases later this year, the movie will feature Shadow the Hedgehog in a key role. The character appeared at the very end of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, but viewers did not get a chance to hear his voice. For the last two years, fans have speculated about who might take on the role, and one of the biggest rumors has centered around Hayden Christensen. In a clip released in February, Shadow can be heard laughing, and many people seemed to think it sounded like the Darth Vader actor. However, that rumor might have been debunked by YouTuber John Campea.

"Well... I can tell you that in Sonic 3, Hayden Christensen is NOT the voice of Shadow. Can't say who it's going to be, but people will be very happy," Campea wrote on his YouTube community page.

Who Will Voice Shadow in Sonic the Hedgehog 3?

Campea has a huge following on YouTube, and tends to be pretty reliable, so if he says Christensen isn't playing Shadow, there's a good chance he's correct. Unfortunately, that leaves fans still wondering just who Paramount will have voicing the character. The company got a very big name for Knuckles when they cast Idris Elba in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and it would make sense to have another big actor for Shadow. With Paramount considering future Sonic spin-offs, and Shadow having starred in his own games in the past, it makes sense to cast someone recognizable that could carry a future project.

What Role Will Shadow Play in Sonic the Hedgehog 3?

Shadow made his debut in Sonic Adventure 2 as the game's primary antagonist. A genetically engineered creation of Gerald Robotnik (Dr. Robotnik's grandfather), Shadow initially teamed up with Dr. Robotnik. However, at the game's conclusion, both Shadow and Robotnik allied with Sonic and friends to save the world. Shadow seemingly dies a hero, but the character's popularity resulted in his return a few years later. Since then, Shadow has appeared in several games, often serving as something of an anti-hero. He'll appear later this year in Sonic x Shadow Generations.

Since Sonic the Hedgehog 2 loosely adapted the events of Sonic 3 & Knuckles, there's a strong possibility that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will do the same with Sonic Adventure 2. The previous movie already featured Knuckles as an enemy turned hero, but it would be interesting to see Robotnik and Sonic working alongside Shadow to save the world. That could also prove to be a nice swan song for Jim Carrey in the films, as the actor has discussed a potential retirement over the last two years. Nothing has been revealed about the story so far, so fans are just going to have to speculate until we get some news ahead of the film's December 20th theatrical release.

Who do you want to see play Shadow? Were you hoping it would be Hayden Christensen? Share your thoughts with me directly on Twitter at @Marcdachamp or on Instagram at @Dachampgaming!

The Wild Robot Will Channel Hayao Miyazaki, Classic Disney Titles https://comicbook.com/anime/news/the-wild-robot-inspirations-hayao-miyazaki-disney/ Sun, 14 Apr 2024 20:58:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 225aed48-6eab-43f7-ac40-00f71fd1c4ea

The Wild Robot is going to be a major adaptation for Dreamworks Animation, and the director behind it all revealed some surprising influences the new film will channel. Peter Brown's The Wild Robot has been a massive bestseller title since it first released several years ago as fans fell in love with the story of a robot who crash lands on an isolated island and learns to live in this new environment while bonding with the animals that lived there. Coming to theaters later this Fall, very little of the new film has been revealed in motion as of the time of this publication.

The Wild Robot debuted an unfinished bit of new footage during CinemaCon 2024 not long ago during Universal's presentation, (which was attended by ComicBook.com), The Wild Robot director Chris Sandlers (who was behind films such as How to Train Your Dragon, Lilo & Stitch, and more) revealed that the film takes some inspiration from classic Disney films and the legendary Studio Ghibli works from Hayao Miyazaki, even noting that the finished project has a visual style described as "a Monet painting in a Miyazaki forest."

What Is The Wild Robot?

The Wild Robot will be releasing in theaters beginning on September 20th. Written and directed by Chris Sandlers (How to Train Your Dragon, Lilo & Stitch, The Croods) and produced by Jeff Hermann (DreamWorks Animation's The Boss Baby 2: Family Business, Kung Fu Panda 3), The Wild Robot is based on Peter Brown's original novel of the same name. The film stars Lupita Nyong'o (Black Panther) as the main character, Roz, as she leads a cast that also includes the likes of Pedro Pascal as Fink and Catherine O' Hara as Pinktail.

The voice cast also includes the likes of Bill Nighy as Longneck, Kit Connor as Brightbill, Stephanie Hsu as Vontra, Mark Hamill, Matt Berry, and Ving Rhames. As for what to expect from The Wild Robot, Dreamworks Animation teases the film as such, "From DreamWorks Animation comes a new adaptation of a literary sensation, Peter Brown's beloved, award-winning, #1 New York Times bestseller, The Wild Robot. The epic adventure follows the journey of a robot--ROZZUM unit 7134, 'Roz' for short -- that is shipwrecked on an uninhabited island and must learn to adapt to the harsh surroundings, gradually building relationships with the animals on the island and becoming the adoptive parent of an orphaned gosling."

Beetlejuice Star Confirms They Won't Return in Sequel https://comicbook.com/horror/news/beetlejuice-geena-davis-barbara-confirms-wont-return-bot-in-sequel/ Sun, 14 Apr 2024 20:55:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak bd903618-a0f4-4a51-b948-0317d3d74567

More than 35 years after the release of Beetlejuice, Michael Keaton is finally returning to the titular role in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. The first trailer for the movie was released last month, and fans are excited to see some of the original stars return. In addition to Keaton, Winona Ryder is back as Lydia Deetz, and Catherine O'Hara is playing Delia Deetz. However, you shouldn't expect to see Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis back as the loveable ghost couple, Adam and Barbara. Davis recently spoke to ET and confirmed she won't be appearing in the sequel.

"No, I'm not. I'm not in the remake," Davis revealed. "Oh, you were expecting that I would be? Yeah, no, you know what? Because my theory is that ghosts don't age... Not that I have."

What Is Beetlejuice Beetlejuice About?

You can read the sequel's official synopsis here: "After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia's life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened. With trouble brewing in both realms, it's only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice's name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem."

In addition to the returning cast members, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice also stars Jenna Ortega, Willem Dafoe, Justin Theroux, and Monica Bellucci.

"Beetlejuice is the most f*ckin' fun you can have working," Keaton previously shared with Empire. "It's so fun, it's so great. And you know what it is? We're doing it exactly like we did the first movie ... There's a woman in the great waiting room for the afterlife literally with a fishing line - I want people to know this because I love it - tugging on the tail of a cat to make it move."

Keaton added, "[Burton] and I were talking about it years and years ago, never telling anybody. I said, 'If it happens, first of all, we've both said we're doing it many times. We both agreed, if it happens, it has to be done as close to the way we made it the first time. Making stuff up, making stuff happen, improvising and riffing, but literally handmade stuff like people creating things with their hands and building something. F*ckin' great. It's the most fun I've had working on a movie in I can't tell you how long."

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is currently scheduled to debut in theaters on September 6th.

Marvel's Simu Liu Promises Shang-Chi 2 Is Still On https://comicbook.com/movies/news/marvel-studios-shang-chi-2-sequel-still-happening-simu-liu/ Sun, 14 Apr 2024 19:25:00 +0000 Cameron Bonomolo 8cf21973-ecd2-46cb-8956-921a45896894

Shang-Chi will return... eventually. Marvel Studios' Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings introduced Simu Liu's master martial artist to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with a mid-credits scene -- featuring Wong (Benedict Wong), Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), and Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) -- hinting at Shang-Chi's future as part of the Avengers. The Destin Daniel Cretton-directed Phase 4 film packed a punch at the box office, too: Shang-Chi scored a record-breaking Labor Day weekend and went on to gross more than $430 million worldwide despite being released amid the pandemic in September 2021. So where is Shang-Chi 2?

"I [promise] it's still happening," Liu replied to a fan on Instagram's Threads who wrote that "there has been no effort by the studio to get the sequel filming or even include the character in other Marvel films."

A Shang-Chi sequel was officially announced by Disney and Marvel Studios in December 2021, when Cretton inked an overall deal to write and direct Shang-Chi 2 and develop TV projects for Disney+, including an in-the-works Wonder Man series starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as the titular superhero-turned-actor. The in-demand Cretton has since boarded Lionsgate's live-action Naturo movie and was attached to direct Avengers: The Kang Dynasty -- Marvel's first Avengers movie since Endgame in 2019 -- but in November, the filmmaker "amicably" parted ways with Marvel on Avengers 5.

"When I get a call of like, 'Hey, this is what you're in, and this is where you're going to show up, and this is when you're going to be need to be blacked out for.' That's kind of generally what tends to happen," Liu recently told ComicBook at the premire of Arthur the King. "Destin is such a special filmmaker and we're very happy to have him on the sequel. So he'll be working on that, and we're really excited to see what he comes up with. I think he's going to do a brilliant job."

Cretton remains attached to the as-yet-untitled Shang-Chi 2, but after Marvel Studios' slate shake-up, the sequel remains undated. Liu previously took to Threads to assure fans that the sequel is expected to release as part of the MCU Phase 6, between Kang Dynasty (currently dated May 1, 2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (May 7, 2027).

"Was told [Shang-Chi 2] would follow Avengers, but that keeps pushing back due to circumstances beyond my control," Liu wrote in an update last year. "Hope to have more concrete news to share soon."

The upcoming Marvel Studios slate includes Deadpool & Wolverine (July 26), Captain America: Brave New World (Feb. 14, 2025), Thunderbolts* (May 5, 2025), The Fantastic Four (July 25, 2025), Blade (Nov. 7, 2025), Avengers 5 (May 1, 2026), and Avengers: Secret Wars (May 7, 2027).

Marvel's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is available to stream now on Disney+.

Civil War Opening Marks Major Record for A24 Studios https://comicbook.com/movies/news/civil-war-opening-marks-major-record-for-a24-studios/ Sun, 14 Apr 2024 18:51:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak cb8ac0fd-0f69-44c5-8c5a-afc9283aa696

A24 released Alex Garland's Civil War this weekend, and it's already a hit for the studio, who previously announced they were shifting focus from low-budget indie movies to franchises and IP. While Civil War isn't a part of a franchise, it does mark A24's most expensive film to date. After its first weekend in theaters, it looks like the gamble is paying off. Not only did Civil War win the weekend box office, but it's already breaking records for A24. First, it became the studio's highest preview night earner, and now it has officially taken the title of the A24's biggest opening weekend earner.

According to Deadline, Civil War's box office total for the weekend has reached $25.7 million. Previously, their highest-grossing opening weekend went to Hereditary, which earned $13.6 million in its first weekend back in 2018. At this rate, Civil War could become one of A24's highest-grossing films, but it has a ways to go before topping Everything Everywhere All At Once, which made $143.4 million at the box office in 2022 before going on to win seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

What Is Civil War About?

Civil War is set in a not-so-distant future that sees the United States in the midst of a second Civil War. The film follows a group of journalists played by Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Stephen McKinley Henderson, and Cailee Spaeny who must travel through the dangerous country as they attempt to reach the President (Nick Offerman) for an interview.

ComicBook.com recently spoke with Moura about making a movie with such an intense subject matter.

"I was just talking about this, the tension in films like that, when I did Narcos, we were dealing with a lot of heavy scenes and all that," Wagner Moura explained. "It's not in your mind, it's not an intellectual thing. Your mind is free when you rap. Right? I'm going to go somewhere, I'm going to smoke a cigarette, have a drink, but the body, it sort of stays there, right? So I don't know how to shake it off, actually. And those keeping up with life, seeing people that you love and maybe love. Love is the answer, though."

You can watch our interview with Moura at the top of the page.

One-Punch Man Movie Recruits Dan Harmon, Heather Anne Campbell https://comicbook.com/anime/news/one-punch-man-movie-dan-harmon-writers/ Sun, 14 Apr 2024 18:48:00 +0000 Megan Peters 18a91661-aa38-494d-a9cc-33b26195f854

Oh, it's happening. One-Punch Man is getting a third season before long, but right now, all eyes are shifting towards its future in theaters. After all, Sony has ordered a live-action film adapted One-Punch Man with director Justin Lin onboard. And now, a new report has confirmed Dan Harmon of Rick and Morty is joining the film as writer alongside Heather Anne Campbell.

Yes, you read that right. The co-creator behind Rick and Morty is working on One-Punch Man. The writer, along with Campbell, has been brought in to rewrite the movie's script. Back in 2020, it was announced Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner were heading up the movie's script. So now, it seems the story is coming down to Harmon and Campbell.

If you are not familiar with these writers, Harmon has a long history with satire and comedy. From Community to Harmontown, the writer-producer has done it all. Of course, fans will know Harmon best for his work on Rick and Morty. He co-created the Adult Swim mega-hit in 2014 with Justin Roiland. These days, Rick and Morty is one of the top-rated comedies on television, and its eighth season is on the horizon.

As for Campbell, the writer-comedian has been in the entertainment industry for decades. From Whose Line Is It Anyway to The Eric Andre Show, Campbell is no stranger to comedy. They have also worked closely with Harmon as Campbell began writing on Rick and Morty in season six.

So far, Sony has released little information about One-Punch Man asides from its main crew. With Lin set to direct, the live-action adaptation has some big expectations hanging overhead. So if you are not familiar with One-Punch Man, you can read up on its official synopsis below:

"Nothing about Saitama passes the eyeball test when it comes to superheroes, from his lifeless expression to his bald head to his unimpressive physique. However, this average-looking guy has a not-so-average problem-he just can't seem to find an opponent strong enough to take on! Every time a promising villain appears, Saitama beats the snot out of 'em with one punch! Can he finally find an opponent who can go toe-to-toe with him and give his life some meaning? Or is he doomed to a life of superpowered boredom?"

Superman's James Gunn Fuels New Rumors About Fan-Favorite Villain https://comicbook.com/dc/news/superman-james-gunn-fuels-new-rumors-fan-favorite-villain-mister-mxyzptlk/ Sun, 14 Apr 2024 18:03:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak f13643b2-8177-464a-aee8-15d8551d44fa

James Gunn's Superman is scheduled to hit theaters next year, and the director recently teased a lot of excitement at CinemaCon. Gunn has announced much of the cast, including David Corenswet as Superman and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. The director is also known for sharing teases on social media, and his latest post has people talking. Gunn shared a classic-looking figure of Mister Mxyzptlk, a fan-favorite DC villain who was created back in 1944.

"Say my name," Gunn captioned the post. You can check it out below:

Who Is Mister Mxyzptlk?

Mister Mxyzptlk has the power to warp reality to his will, which he often uses to harass and annoy Superman. In the majority of his appearances, he can only be banished back to the Fifth Dimension after he is tricked into saying or spelling his name backward. Mister Mxyzptlk was previously seen in the Arrowverse.

While Gunn's post isn't an official announcement about the character, it does have fans excited. Many commented on the post to share their thoughts on a potential Mister Mxyzptlk appearance.

"I would literally see Superman 20 times in theaters if he's introduced in the DCU," one fan wrote. "I have a strong feeling that the new movie is going to do his character justice," another wrote. "I'd like to see him get his proper due in live action," someone else added.

What Is The New Superman About?

Originally titled Superman: Legacy, DC Studios describes Superman as the story of Superman's journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.

In addition to the previously mentioned stars, Superman: Legacy will star Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Mar?a Gabriela de Far?a as Angela Spica/The Engineer, Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt/Mr. Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason/Metamorpho, and Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher.

"It's not an origin story," Peter Safran previously explained to reporters when asked about the film. "It focuses on Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. Superman represents truth, justice, and the American way. He has kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old fashioned."

Are you hoping Mister Mxyzptlk will be in Superman? Who would you like to see play him? Tell us in the comments!

Gunn previously confirmed Superman would be released in theaters on July 11, 2025.

Real Steel 2 Gets Promising Update https://comicbook.com/movies/news/real-steel-2-gets-promising-update-shawn-levy-deadpool-wolverine/ Sun, 14 Apr 2024 16:56:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak e138b04a-da9f-4c8d-9c03-031a90ab596b

In recent years, Ryan Reynolds and director Shawn Levy have collaborated on multiple projects together, including Free Guy and The Adam Project. Now, the duo is back with their most highly-anticipated film yet: Deadpool & Wolverine. The movie will also feature the long-awaited onscreen team-up between Reynolds' Deadpool and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. However, this isn't the first time Jackman has worked with Levy. In 2011, Jackman starred in Real Steel alongside Evangeline Lilly and Anthony Mackie before they were known for Marvel. The film was directed by Levy, who has previously talked about returning to the world of Real Steel. In fact, a Disney+ series was announced to be in development back in 2022, but there haven't been many updates since. This week, Levy spoke with ScreenRant at CinemaCon, and the director gave a hopeful answer when asked about a potential Real Steel 2.

"We always talk about Real Steel 2," Levy said. "Because the world won't let us forget, and I'm glad for that."

What Is Deadpool 3 About?

While Real Steal 2 might be just a dream, the long-awaited Deadpool 3 is right around the corner. The film was helmed by Levy from a script written by Bob's Burgers' Wendy Molyneaux and Lizzie Molyneaux-Loeglin, with Deadpool and Deadpool 2 writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick also returning to contribute to the script. Not much is known about the plot, but there has been a lot of speculation and exciting teases.

In addition to Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Deadpool 3 will also star Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Carlysle, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Stefan Kapi?i? as Piotr Rasputin/Colossus, Emma Corrin, and Matthew Macfadyen.

Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters on July 26th.

Civil War Tops Box Office Upon Opening as Godzilla x Kong Crosses $400 Million https://comicbook.com/anime/news/civil-war-godzilla-kong-box-office-gross/ Sun, 14 Apr 2024 16:29:00 +0000 Megan Peters 7561755a-0266-4773-9034-5d6573e90926

The numbers are in for the weekend box office, and it seems like Civil War made a big push with audiences. The new A24 feature topped the domestic box office with a record opening of $25.7 million USD. And for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, the weekend total pushed the blockbuster over $400 million grossed at the global office.

Thanks to the updated totals, we know Civil War led the domestic box office upon opening with a clear win. Not only did the $25+ debut give A24 Studios its first number one opening, but it also marked the company's highest-grossing opening to date. So far, Civil War has yet to debut in any global market outside of the United Kingdom. Experts are curious to see how the movie holds up given its western-centric plot, but so far, things are looking good for the Alex Garland project.

As for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, its third week in theaters grossed nearly $16 million domestically. To date, the movie has earned $157.9 million at home, and its global pull is even higher. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire has grossed more than $250 million internationally, and that has pushed the movie beyond the $400 million tentpole. Given the movie's budget was under $200 million, you can see why the MonsterVerse is on a high these days. Not long ago, Apple TV+ confirmed it will expand its vision for the franchise. In the wake of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, the show has been ordered a second season, and Apple TV+ says it is developing new spin offs for the MonsterVerse.

When it comes to the rest of the box office's domestic hauls, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire brought in $5.8 million this weekend while Kung Fu Panda 4 stuck it out with $5.5 million. The top eight finished out with Dune 2, Monkey Man, The First Omen, and The Long Game.

Avatar: The Last Airbender Movie Unveils Impressive New Core Cast https://comicbook.com/anime/news/avatar-the-last-airbender-movie-cast/ Sun, 14 Apr 2024 14:47:00 +0000 Megan Peters 4aec53cf-4fce-496b-9fb6-a3de184c5101

Avatar: The Last Airbender is ready to tackle another frontier. After reclaiming its live-action history with a successful Netflix series, all eyes are on the animated franchise. After all, Avatar: The Last Airbender is getting its first movie in 2025, and it has roped in an impressive new cast to oversee its leads.

The cast revelation was made recently at CinemaCon when Paramount hit the stage. It was their fans got updates on everything from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to Star Trek. Of course, Avatar: The Last Airbender was noted, and it was there we learned only one member of the show's original cast is set to return.

Dante Basco, the voice of Zuko, is slated to reprise his role in Avatar's first film. The actor is the only one to return to the franchise as Avatar Studios has found new talent to take care of Aang's gang.

When it comes to Aang, we know Eric Nam will be overseeing the role. The Korean-American singer made their debut in 2013 overseas as Nam joined a talent show in South Korea. Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Nam has enjoyed fame as a K-pop idol and has recently moved to English albums. His role as Aang will mark Nam's first film role, but the actor participated in a number of variety and reality shows in South Korea.

As for Katara, the prodigal water bender is expected to be played by Jessica Batten. The Canadian actress comes from an indigenous background, and Matten even did modeling for the First Nations. To date, the actress has starred in projects like Frontier and Tribal. When it comes to Sokka, it appears Roman Zaragoza is expected to handle the warrior. The actor is known best for his role on Ghosts but has also appeared in projects like Stumptown and Those Who Can't.

Finally, Toph seems to be eyeing a new voice actress as well in Dionne Quan. The veteran actress has been working in voice overs since they were 14 years old, and Quan has worked on several major series. From The Fairly OddParents to Rugrats, Quan has a history with Nickelodeon titles. As for Toph, the actress will bring additional representation to the earth bender as Quan is legally blind. The actress was born with optic nerve hypoplasia, a condition that arises when the nerve itself is congenitally underdeveloped.

With a new cast set in stone, Avatar: The Last Airbender is making strides towards its theatrical launch. Paramount has confirmed Dave Bautista will voice the film's original villain. With the movie set for a 2025 launch, Avatar: The Last Airbender has plenty of work left to finish before its movie is ready, and fans are eager to see what the feature has in store.

Deadpool & Wolverine: Bosslogic Imagines Kevin Feige's "Intentionally Crude" Popcorn Bucket https://comicbook.com/marvel/news/deadpool-wolverine-bosslogic-imagines-kevin-feiges-intentionally-crude-popcorn-bucket/ Sun, 14 Apr 2024 01:59:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak dbfcd81b-761a-4b82-99e1-9a647e1812b6

Movie-themed popcorn buckets are all the rage these days, and they've gotten even more attention thanks to the Dune: Part Two popcorn bucket that came out this year. The souvenir sandworm bucket from AMC Theatres caused a huge stir online with many making NSFW jokes that resulted in a hilarious Saturday Night Live sketch. This week, Kevin Feige took the stage at CinemaCon during Disney's presentation and revealed Deadpool & Wolverine will have an "intentionally crude" popcorn bucket. They have yet to reveal the upcoming bucket, but fan-favorite digital artist Bosslogic came up with their own design, and it certainly fits Feige's description.

"In theatres July 2024 #deadpoolandwolverine," Bosslogic captioned the post. You can check out the design below. Warning: The following image is NSFW!

AMC Exec Reacts to Dune Popcorn Bucket Backlash

This week, Variety spoke with Elizabeth Frank, the Chief Content Officer for AMC. During the interview, Frank addressed the response to the Dune: Part Two bucket.

"We continue to learn and evolve. We would have never imagined the Dune thing. We would have never created it knowing it would be celebrated or mocked," Frank explained. "Absolutely," she added when asked if the SNL sketch felt like a "seal of approval." "And you couldn't make it happen if you wanted to. It wouldn't be fair to pull our creative talent aside to say, 'We hope it makes SNL.'"

"Some fans are collectors. There's another group of people who are specific film fans, buying three different Ghostbusters products. It's all a mix. It's a material part of our food and beverage business, but it's not the majority of it. It also makes the movies more fun. It's like going home from a concert with a T-shirt. There is a lot of creative energy from it," she added.

Emma Stone Partnering with Deadpool & Wolverine Director on New Movie https://comicbook.com/movies/news/emma-stone-partnering-universal-deadpool-wolverine-shawn-levy-new-movie-dave-mccary/ Sat, 13 Apr 2024 19:59:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak c2f6e77f-4dc6-43fc-b1cb-4abdf2439934

Emma Stone recently won her second Best Actress Academy Award for her performance in Poor Things, and she will soon be reuniting with director Yorgos Lanthimos for Kinds of Kindness, which is heading to theaters this summer. However, her fourth collaboration with Lanthimos is not the only project Stone has in the works. Deadline reported that Stone is in talks to star in an untitled Universal film from director Dave McCary, who also happens to be her husband. McCary has many Saturday Night Live directing credits to his name in addition to the 2017 film, Brigsby Bear.

According to the report, the original spec script was written by Patrick Kang and Michael Levin, who are best known as supervising producers on Young Rock. Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy is producing through 21 Laps alongside Dan Cohen and Dan Levine. Michael H. Weber will also produce while Stone, McCary, and Ali Herting are in talks to produce through Fruit Tree. Universal's Senior EVP of Production Development Erik Baiers will oversee the project alongside Creative Executive Jacqueline Garell. The film's plot is currently unknown.

What Is Kinds of Kindness About?

Kinds of Kindness is a new anthology film that Searchlight will be releasing this summer. The first trailer for the project was released last month, and it has lots of film fans excited.

"This is it. The moment of truth," Searchlight teased on YouTube. Kinds of Kindness was filmed last October in New Orleans and will also feature Poor Things' Margaret Qualley and Willem Dafoe and The Favourite's Joe Alwyn in addition to Lanthimos first-timers Jesse Plemons (Killers of the Flower Moon), Hong Chau (The Whale), Mamoudou Athie (Jurassic World: Dominion), and Hunter Schafer (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes).

Kinds of Kindness isn't the only project coming from Lanthimos and Stone. During a recent chat with the Little Gold Men podcast, Lanthimos teased he's talked to Stone about making another film.

"I mean, yeah. After we finish one, we discuss the next one," Lanthimos explained. "So we've shot this feature film in New Orleans [Kind Of Kindness] which we are now editing and Poor Things is out now and yeah, we're discussing about doing something together again [after that]."

Kinds of Kindness is being released in theaters on June 21st. Stay tuned for more updates about Stone's other upcoming projects.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's Wrexham A.F.C. Gets Promoted for Second Straight Year https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/ryan-reynolds-wrexham-afc-rob-mcelhenney-promoted-second-year-celebration/ Sat, 13 Apr 2024 19:32:00 +0000 Aaron Perine b60aa415-0e55-4992-b36a-ec7d60de7dd7

Ryan Reynolds's football club has been promoted again and it's a wild story. Wrexham AFC is the name of the franchise owned by the Deadpool star and Rob McElhenney. When the two actors decided to buy Wrexhan's beloved little club, some people believed it was a publicity stunt. However, the players and their fans have rallied to become a truly inspiring story. This year was Wrexham's first one back in EFL in ages. So, while it was a cinderella run, not many were expecting a repeat promotion after a disappointing season opening loss to MK Dons. However, his club battled and now finds themselves in League One after some rivals faltered at the finish line.

Unfortunately, the club's owner could not be there to witness what's sure to be a massive party in Wales. However, he's beyond proud of the efforts of everyone involved. "A few years ago, if you told me I would be crying tears of joy over a football match taking place in North Wales, you would be Rob McElhenney," Reynolds wrote on social media. "Congrats to Wrexham and to my co-chairman in crime. Double up the town! This is the ride of our lives."

A Magical Run For Wrexham

Welcome to Wrexham fans are well-acquainted with the club's exploits from the seasons fo the documentary series. Last year, it played out like a sports movie with Wrexham AFC managing to completely the storybook promotion. CBS Sports Golazo! caught up with Ben Foster after the amazing conclusion to their season. The goalkeeper had a monster save in a big spot against Notts County. He told the show that Reynolds and McElhenney had promised the lads something special if they came through for the club. Foster said, "They promised us a big day out. They promised us a monster one. If we get promoted, they promised us somewhere with a lot of fashion life."

"With the new owners coming in, Rob and Ryan, they've done it professionally. They've built everything up. If you've watched the documentary, little things like, when they first walked in and saw the gym, it's a shambles," Foster would say of returning to his old haunt. "There's basically a medicine ball on the floor and that's about it. Now, it's a fully-functioning professional gym. The lads are in there everyday giving everything they've got."

He added, "It's so cool and it's so weird. They're there quite a lot. Rob is based over here for the next month or two weeks. He's in there every day with the lads. Ryan makes it to about 1 in every three games. But, they're always there in the text messages, the WhatsApp with a "Well done today, we needed that. Fantastic performance.' That's the cool bit."

Are you shocked their team was able to accomplish so much so soon? Let us know in the comments down below!

Civil War Is Already Breaking Records for A24 https://comicbook.com/movies/news/civil-war-is-already-breaking-records-for-a24/ Sat, 13 Apr 2024 19:01:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 1f37ff3b-e5d3-4144-8c95-3167f1ecf77f

Civil War was released in the theaters this weekend, and the new Alex Garland film is doing quite well for A24. Currently, the movie is up on Rotten Tomatoes with a "Certified Fresh" 83% critics score. ComicBook.com's Kofi Outlaw gave the movie a 4 out of 5, and called it Garland's "most ambitious story yet." The movie is set in a not-so-distant future that sees the United States in the midst of a second Civil War. The film follows a group of journalists played by Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Stephen McKinley Henderson, and Cailee Spaeny who must travel through a dangerous country as they attempt to reach the President for an interview. In addition to being a hit with critics, the movie is also breaking box office records for A24.

According to Deadline, Civil War made $2.9 million in Thursday night previews at 2,931 locations. This beat the A24's previous Thursday night record of $1.3 million, which was set by Hereditary back in 2018. The movie is expected to top $20 million this weekend, which would also be a new record for A24. In 2018, Hereditary also set the studio's opening weekend record with $13.6 million.

It's important to note that Civil War is A24's most expensive film to date. The film had a reported $50 million budget in addition to a reported $20 million marketing budget. At this rate, it seems like A24's attempt to shift focus from low-budget indie movies might be paying off. However, the movie has a long way to go before being A24's most successful film ever.

Hereditary is the studio's third-highest-grossing film, earning $82.7 worldwide. The second-place earner was last year's Talk To Me, which made $92.2 million worldwide. Unsurprisingly, the studio's biggest box office earner was Everything Everywhere All At Once in 2022. The film made $143.4 million at the box office before going on to win seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

Is Alex Garland Retiring?

Garland recently expressed that he would be stepping away from directing, and while some of those comments were interpreted to mean he would no longer be making movies, he has since clarified his comments. The director explained that he is specifically taking an indefinite hiatus from directing to focus on writing. However, he has no plans to retire.

"What I said is I'm going to take a break from directing for the foreseeable future. How that could get extrapolated as what pride I do or do not feel in this movie. I just don't see the connecting thread," Garland confirmed to IndieWire. "I said I'm going to stop directing for the foreseeable future. Why would a statement like that be taken and picked over or interpreted to that degree? There's something weird happening there. There's something strange about that ... it's a general strangeness that exists to do with what form public statements take, how they are used, and how words are interpreted or read."

Civil War is now playing in theaters.

Rebecca Ferguson Speaks Out on Backlash to Calling Out "Absolute Idiot" for Bad Behavior on Set https://comicbook.com/movies/news/rebecca-ferguson-speaks-out-backlash-calling-out-absolute-idiot-bad-behavior-on-set/ Sat, 13 Apr 2024 17:52:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 7d7ba810-8f02-415b-903d-5b7bd7d41c60

Rebecca Ferguson is one of the stars you can currently catch on the big screen in Dune: Part Two, and she made a lot of waves during the film's press tour. Ferguson, who plays Lady Jessica in the movie, made headlines after talking about an unnamed former co-star in one of her interviews. Ferguson called the actor an "idiot" and revealed they screamed at her and made her cry. While she confirmed the actor in question wasn't Tom Cruise or Hugh Jackman, many people online started speculating about who it could be. During a recent interview with The Jess Cagle Show, Ferguson revealed she was "not expecting" her comments to lead to a viral guessing game.

"Number one, yes, I kind of enjoyed the grab," Ferguson explained. "But what I realized even at the age that I am now - 21 - is it doesn't matter. I definitely think I'm much more open. I also know where my boundaries are. But the point of the interview wasn't about finding the person - of course, people will be interested. But I was excited about the question, which was a very good question by [Josh Smith]. Because the point was: Is there a point in your career where you were treated in a way where you changed your decision on - this is how I formulated it in myself - where you want change, or you will not accept it? And it was such a clear moment for me working with this person."

"But I got phone calls from amazing co-stars who I've worked with going, 'You understand what you've done, right?!'" she continued. "And I was like, 'Oh my God. No, I didn't think.' I mean, it's not my responsibility, to be honest. I don't really care. You know, 'You're great, but my story is my story, and if you're a good person, then don't worry about it.'"

While the guessing game has since died down, there were many big names on Ferguson's list of former co-stars. You can read her original comments below:

"I did a film with an absolute idiot of a co-star and this human being was being so insecure and angry because this person couldn't get the scenes out," Ferguson said while appearing on the Reign With Josh Smith podcast. "And I think I was so vulnerable and uncomfortable that I got screamed at and I would cry walking off set."

"This person would literally look at me in front of the whole crew and say, 'You call yourself an actor? This is what I have to work with?' I stood there just breaking," Ferguson continued. "Because this person was number one on the call sheet, there was no safety net for me. No one had my back."

Dune: Part Two is still playing in theaters.

Civil War Captures A24 Record $24 Million Box Office Opening https://comicbook.com/movies/news/civil-war-box-office-a24-record-24-million-opening/ Sat, 13 Apr 2024 16:20:00 +0000 Aaron Perine a63fdd7b-90d8-4e50-b3f6-f92ea215c433

Civil War is set to capture the box office this weekend with a $24 million opening. The A24 movie has made some waves online as the biggest opening for the studio. Some estimates have the Kirsten Dunst political drama reaching as high as $27 million this weekend. Some other familiar faces in this tale of a divided America will go a long way to driving turnout as well. Cailee Spaeny has left her beehive behind for this one and Nick Offerman is not doing any laughing in Civil War. But, there is some wonder about how far this political thriller can go in the "new movie landscape" where there are no sure things.

ComicBook.com recently spoke with the movie's star Kirsten Dunst. She told us that the project was a long time coming. The beloved actress has been a fan of Alex Garland for a long time. So, when the opportunity arose, she jumped at it.

"I've been a fan of his since I saw Ex Machina, and then have read screenplays of his, so I didn't think that it was a possibility I would be able to work with him, so that was really exciting," Dunst revealed. "I was so stoked to get this role. I really thought, 'Wow, he's doing something I've never seen before,' and I want to be a part of things like that. So I always migrate to the people that are pushing boundaries or I hope to work with them, the people that are doing things that no one else thinks to do, or I migrate to those kinds of filmmakers."

How Good Is Civil War?

(Photo: Universal Pictures)

With all this fervor, a lot of people have been talking about Civil War since that gripping trailer dropped. Some of the reviews for Garland's latest have questioned the reluctance to name the conflict that birthed this split in America. ComicBook.com's Kofi Outlaw had the pleasure of reviewing this movie for the site and touted the visual storytelling in Civil War. This movie brings the goods on an IMAX screen.

"Civil War marks the most ambitious and large-scale project that Alex Garland has ever taken on. There's sure to be a furious debate of the socio-political implications of the film, but what can't be debated is the visual accomplishment here, which deserves the scope of an IMAX screen," Outlaw argues. "Garland and his longtime collaborator, cinematographer Rob Hardy (Annihilation, Ex Machina, Mission: Impossible - Fallout) strike a deep chord of resonance by turning our current Americana landscape (from the cookie-cutter strip malls to the urban centers, small-town suburbs, and rural regions) into hauntingly real wartime landscapes."

He continues, "There is imagery in Civil War that will be impossible to forget - whether its bodies blown to bits in a block of midtown Manhattan, bodies strung up in a car wash, or carnage littering the sides of the highway; all familiar settings turned into war zones."

Terminator Star Linda Hamilton Explains Why She's Never Playing Sarah Connor Again https://comicbook.com/movies/news/terminator-sarah-connor-linda-hamilton-explains-why-never-playing-again/ Sat, 13 Apr 2024 14:49:00 +0000 Aaron Perine 1b293012-80d8-4269-990d-1ed5e4ba612c

Terminator: Dark Fate star Linda Hamilton talked about possibly returning to the franchise. And, fans should not get their hopes up at all. The Hollywood Reporter sat down to talk with the Resident Alien actress about her career. Hamilton was asked which was more likely: returning as Sarah Connor or AI writing the next Terminator? She went for the humor and said, "AI writing the next Terminator movie. And they kill me off before we start. That's the best scenario." After begging the creative team to shoot her beloved character, she went on to explain her reasoning.

"I'm very glad I went back. I loved [director Tim Miller], I love my ladies [Mackenzie Davis and Natalia Reyes], and while I can't say I love the film, that's because I was so attached to it," Hamilton began. "I only saw it once. I felt like it was too fast. But we did so much good work, and it was the greatest time of my life, and the worst time of my life, all rolled into one film.

"I was 63 or whatever I was, and it was the hardest shoot. Every day it was like a triathlon: 'Now we're going to swim for two hours and then we're going to run for two hours,'" she recalled. "I read 40 books on that show. That's all I could do, lie down and read, send my mind somewhere else and rest my body."

Linda Hamilton Speaks Out On Terminator Return

(Photo: Paramount Pictures)

This is far from the first time that Hamilton has expressed such a take about the future of the franchise. Earlier this year, she told Business Insider that there was no going back to Terminator in her future. In fact, Hamilton wondered why we would all try to do this again after so many tries. She gestured towards the larger trend in Hollywood around relaunches and hoped for some different angles.

"I'm done. I'm done. I have nothing more to say. The story's been told, and it's been done to death," Hamilton revealed when asked about her future with the series. "Why anybody would relaunch it is a mystery to me. But I know our Hollywood world is built on relaunches right now."

If that wasn't enough comment. Hamilton also talked about her complicated feelings surrounding her "iconic" character in the franchise. The Terminator star would put that designation in quotation marks because she doesn't see Sarah Connor like the fans do. While the beloved heroine might have strength and resilience, the actress falls short of seeing her as an "icon."

"I truly feel like, and felt like, Sarah Connor is not an icon. She's a woman in hell. She makes some really bad choices. She's not a good mother, she's a good fighter!" the actor added. "So you sort of try to parse the details out and go, 'Well, they respect her strength and her power, and I did create a warrior, but she's very imperfect. She's an imperfect person.'"

Andy Samberg and Abigail Directors Teaming Up for New Comedy Movie https://comicbook.com/movies/news/andy-samberg-abigail-directors-new-comedy-movie/ Sat, 13 Apr 2024 03:06:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson 6586334d-75d1-4803-b8f8-4c10338c70dd

Over the years, Andy Samberg has been involved in quite a few memorable projects, from Palm Springs to Brooklyn Nine-Nine to countless sketches on Saturday Night Live. As a new report reveals, he might soon be adding a collaboration with the directing duo Radio Silence to that list. On Friday, reports indicated that a new untitled comedy movie is in the works, which Samberg would produce and potentially star in. The film would be directed by Radio Silence, who have worked on Ready or Not, the Scream movies, and the forthcoming Abigail.

The movie, which would be written by Andrew Lanham, is being described as "a robot comedy." The film is currently courting offers from studios, with some reported to be in the seven-figure range.

What Is Abigail About?

Abigail centers around a group of would-be criminals who kidnap a 12-year-old ballerina and daughter of a powerful underworld figure. All they have to do to collect a $50 million ransom is watch the girl overnight. In an isolated mansion, the captors start to dwindle, one by one, and they discover, to their mounting horror, that they're locked inside with no normal little girl.

In addition to Melissa Barrera (Scream franchise, In the Heights), Abigail stars Dan Stevens (Godzilla x Kong: The New EmpireGaslit, Legion), Kathryn Newton (Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Lisa Frankenstien), William Catlett (Black Lightning, True Story), Kevin Durand (Resident Evil: Retribution, X-Men Origins: Wolverine), and Angus Cloud (Euphoria, North Hollywood) as the kidnappers and Alisha Weir (Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical, Darklands) as Abigail. The film is produced by William Sherak (Scream franchise, Ready or Not), Paul Neinstein (Scream franchise; executive producer, The Night Agent), and James Vanderbilt (Zodiac, Scream franchise) for Project X Entertainment, by Tripp Vinson (Ready or Not, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island), and by Radio Silence's Chad Vilella (executive producer Ready or Not and Scream franchise). The executive producers are Ron Lynch and Macdara Kelleher.

What Is Andy Samberg's New TV Show?

Digman! is set in a world where archaeologists are massive celebrities and the coolest people on the planet, with Samberg providing the voice of the protagonist, Rip Digman. The series stars Samberg, Mitra Jouhari, Tim Robinson, Guz Khan, Dale Soules, Melissa Fumero, and Tim Meadows. Digman! is executive produced by Titmouse Studios, with Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski, Antonio Canobbio and Ben Kalina. Grant Gish serves as executive producer with Sachi Ezura as co-executive producer and Michael Stanger as supervising producer for MTV Entertainment Studios.

"Andy is a singular creative force with a vision to explore bold, genre-shifting, comedic storytelling," Nina L. Diaz, President of Content and Chief Creative Officer, Paramount Media Networks & MTV Entertainment Studios, said in a statement. "We are thrilled to partner with him, The Lonely Island and CBS Studios on Digman! - the first series Andy has written and produced - to Comedy Central's robust animation line-up."

Thunderbolts*: Could the Title Change Tease a Major Avengers Connection? https://comicbook.com/movies/news/thunderbolts-title-change-dark-avengers-mcu/ Sat, 13 Apr 2024 02:14:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson 335e26b4-2390-4c79-9f88-0eb1cd0c5841

We're a little over a year out from the debut of Marvel's Thunderbolts movie, the new ensemble film surrounding a number of Marvel Cinematic Universe antiheroes. Although production on Thunderbolts still ongoing, we got a major -- and unexpected -- update on it during this week's CinemaCon presentation. As part of Walt Disney Studios' presentation at the event, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige unveiled a new title treatment for Thunderbolts, confirming that the film's current title is actually Thunderbolts*. Feige teased that the asterisk will be narratively explained, saying "that is the official title of Thunderbolts* and we won't talk more about that until after the movie comes out."

This new detail has launched a flurry of speculation about the titular Thunderbolts team, and whether or not they might rebrand themselves into a different name. In particular, some have wondered if there's a chance that Thunderbolts* could ultimately become a Dark Avengers movie.

Will Thunderbolts* Become a Dark Avengers Movie?

In the pages of Marvel Comics, the concept of the Dark Avengers originates during "Dark Reign", as the main Avengers are disbanded by the government in the aftermath of "Secret Invasion." In their absence, Norman Osborn attempts to use the Avengers name to hide his secret team of villains and antiheroes in plain sight, forming a team that can be disguised as alternate versions of established heroes.

Granted, the potential transformation from the MCU's Thunderbolts to the Dark Avengers probably wouldn't happen in the same exact way, especially when nearly all of the team's confirmed members are variations of a sword-and-gun civilian. Still, if the Avengers really are disassembled, as the new details surrounding Captain America: Brave New World seem to suggest, then it stands to reason that Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfuss) and President Ross (Harrison Ford) could use that power vacuum to help launch the team more officially. (The change from Thunderbolts* to Dark Avengers would also help sell the concept of the movie to general audiences, but that's a whole separate conversation in and of itself.)

What Is Thunderbolts* About?

Thunderbolts* is expected to be based on the Marvel Comics team of the same name, an alliance of antiheroes and villains who reluctantly work for the government. The cast of Thunderbolts includes Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes / Winter Soldier, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Wyatt Russell as John Walker / U.S. Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr / Ghost, Olgya Kurylenko as Taskmaster, and Harrison Ford as Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross. New cast members will include Lewis Pullman as Robert Reynolds / Sentry, and Geraldine Viswanathan in a mystery role.

"I just made a joke about [how] it's like Dungeons and Dragons, where you meet in a tavern and it's like there's a dwarf drinking a beer and then there's like an elvish figure over there, we all come together and then there's this ghost... it's not gonna happen like that, I don't think," Harbour told ComicBook.com in a 2022 interview. "But I think that's one of the mysteries of the movie is what is their relationship, and as you say, there is a lot of exciting things as you wrap up the next phase in terms of sort of what their part of the whole universe is in this random, chaotic way. So, you know, we can't say too much at this point, but they're an exciting introduction of this team together again, that's going to be a lot of fun."

What do you think of the Thunderbolts* title change? Do you think the film will become a Dark Avengers story? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below!

Thunderbolts* is set to be released exclusively in theaters on May 5, 2025.

Deadpool 3 Director Addresses Taylor Swift Cameo Rumors https://comicbook.com/movies/news/deadpool-3-director-taylor-swift-cameo-rumors-shawn-levy/ Fri, 12 Apr 2024 23:30:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson 2890bd55-b679-4f20-9e70-eef5d711cd0c

There have been no shortage of rumors surrounding Deadpool & Wolverine, the new Marvel Studios sequel to the beloved R-rated superhero franchise. One long-standing rumor has concerned pop superstar Taylor Swift, who fans are hoping will cameo in some capacity. Even though Swift did not appear in the first trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine, that hasn't stopped fans from speculating about her potential involvement. In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy spoke about the Swift rumors, and teased that fans will definitely be surprised by all of the cameos once the film hits theaters.

"I can't even believe that you would dare ask me a question that you know I can't answer," Levy replied. "You know I can't answer. All of America knows I can't answer that. I will say as I said earlier here at CinemaCon. The proliferation of rumors about who is and isn't in this movie is fabulous. Because no one will ever know the truth until July 26th."

When specifically asked about Swift, Levy continued, "That is hardly confirmed nor denied in this interview. I'm going to literally walk about of the frame and save myself, otherwise Ryan's taking a hit [out] on me... All that's known is that I went to a football game, and those hours were well-documented and that's all I'm gonna say. What can I say? I think intrigue is fun."

Will Taylor Swift Play Dazzler in Deadpool 3?

One of the biggest rumors surrounding Swift's role in Deadpool 3 has been that she could play Alison Blaire / Dazzler, a beloved mutant pop star with the ability to bend light. Swift was previously rumored to play Dazzler in 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse, but that did not come to fruition. Levy, who has acted in Swift's All Too Well: The Short Film, has previously played coy about the possibility of her appearing in the film.

"They sure are loud," Levy said, referring to fans of Swift wanting the superstar to play Dazzler. "I'm going across the board. 'No comment' because that's a double whammy. That's Taylor-related. And it's MCU-related. I'm no dummy. You're going to have to wait and see."

What Is Deadpool & Wolverine About?

In Deadpool & Wolverine, Deadpool will change the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Wolverine. The film will also star Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Carlysle, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Stefan Kapi?i? as Piotr Rasputin/Colossus, and Emma Corrin and Matthew Macfadyen in currently-unknown roles. Jennifer Garner is expected to reprise her role as Elektra from the Daredevil and Elektra films of the 2000s.

Deadpool & Wolverine is directed by Shawn Levy, with a script from Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

Ryan Gosling's Response to Singing "I'm Just Ken" at Oscars Was Initially "100% No" https://comicbook.com/movies/news/ryan-gosling-response-singing-im-just-ken-oscars/ Fri, 12 Apr 2024 22:07:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson 10596937-34f9-4c97-b983-dc99b9d14709

Barbie has been a bonafide phenomenon since it debuted in theaters last summer, creating a monocultural moment in an array of ways. That included the standout original song of "I'm Just Ken", which was performed by Ryan Gosling's Ken in the film. "I'm Just Ken" transcended into a new stratosphere at last month's Oscars ceremony, when Gosling performed it in a massive live production. The topic of whether or not Gosling would perform at the Oscars was speculated about at length, and in a recent interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, he revealed that his initial reaction to the Oscars offer was "100% no."

"There's a lot of ways that could go wrong," Gosling said.

What Was the "I'm Just Ken" Oscar Performance Inspired By?

The performance of "I'm Just Ken" contained a number of classic Hollywood homages, particularly to Marilyn Monroe's iconic performance of "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.

"Ryan Gosling is a true professional, that man -- we met with him on Zooms months ago, talking about that performance," Academy Awards producer Molly McNearney explained in an interview earlier this year. "Greta Gerwig weighed in creatively as well. He was so committed to it. His choreographer, Many Moore, is exceptional -- she was on all the calls. So was Mark Ronson. That's where the pink suit, and everybody else in black came from -- and the stairs in the back. And we did an homage to the candelabra girls: We had Ken-delabra men."

Will There Be a Barbie Sequel?

At the time of this writing, a Barbie sequel still has yet to be greenlit. Previous reports have indicated that Gerwig, Robbie, and Gosling are not contractually obligated to return, with last year's Hollywood strikes delaying those talks.

"It's funny, that knee-jerk reaction in this day and age for everyone to immediately ask about a sequel. I don't think it was like that 20 years ago. This wasn't designed to be a trilogy," Robbie explained in a recent interview. "Everything went into Barbie - and that's how Greta works. She finishes every movie on empty, feeling like she could never make another movie because she put everything she had into that one. So I don't know what it would take to fill that cup up again for her. Or for us. I think Warners would also agree. I don't know what more could even look like. We want to make more films that have the effect that Barbie has. I don't know if it has to be Barbie 2. Why can't it be another big, original, bold idea where we get an amazing filmmaker, a big budget to play with, and the trust of a huge conglomerate behind them to go and really play? I want to do that."

Is It Time for Godzilla Jr to Join the MonsterVerse? https://comicbook.com/anime/news/godzila-kong-3-story-baby-little-godzilla-jr-mosnterverse-sequels/ Fri, 12 Apr 2024 21:29:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw 18f2687f-8f1b-439d-915c-bfb9fb51542a

The Monsterverse is breakout hit for Warner Bros. Pictures - despite the common criticisms that come with each installment of the franchise. At the time of writing this, the latest installment, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire has earned $380 million at the worldwide box office ater two weeks in theaters. It's also been announced that the Monsterverse TV spinoff Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is getting renewed for Season 2, with additional spinoff shows in the works.

While the Monsterverse franchise is currently in "good condition" heading into its next phase, it's not free of criticism - and some of them are perfectly valid.

One of the biggest challenges facing the Monsterverse right now is how bring more balance (in terms of screen time and "character" to the version of Godzilla we get in this franchise. Ever since his solo films (Godzilla (2014), Godzilla: King of the Monsters) gave way to the crossover events with King Kong, Godzilla has been noticeably marginalized; The New Empire is calculated to have ten minutes or less in terms of screen time for the Atomic Kaiju - and that needs to change!

It's understandable why Godzilla/Kong movies have been leaning more on Kong: the giant Ape can convey a more "human" persona and intelligence, while his interactions with human characters create a dynamic that helps both connect viewers with Kong and make (some) human characters relevant to the story. On the other hand: Godzilla is a force of nature who does not have (or does not care to indulge in) social interactions with humans. Even at his best (Godzilla: Minus One) the King of the Monsters is more a metaphor for destruction, fear, and trauma than he is a "character," per se.

Godzilla vs Kong and Godzilla x Kong director Adam Wingard has said he wants to put Godzilla back in the spotlight in the next installment ( "I think that the next movie will be the Godzilla version of what we did with this movie, kind of pushing deeper into his story... I would want to hit that kind of emotional resonance with Godzilla as a character this time"), but how to do that?

Well, one good way would be to finally expose Monsterverse audiences to something Godzilla actually cares about - besides retaining his crown.

The Monsterverse Needs Godzilla Jr.

godzilla-kong-3-baby-godzilla-jr-story.jpg
(Photo: Warner Bros. / Toho)

Indeed, Godzilla is that John Wick-style action hero whose reputation precedes him and whose emotional backstory is never really all that necessary to make his films work. But, in the long line of Toho Kaiju films we have seen softer sides of Godzilla - especially when it comes to being a parent!

Godzilla x Kong gained a fan-favorite knew dynamic when Kong met his 'Diddy Kong," in Suko, a young giant ape from Skar King's subterranean tribe. Kong's 'daddy era' shenanigans with Suko were charming: giving Godzilla his own young ward would not only help create more compelling story for the giant lizard - it would also create a daddy-dynamic between Godzlla, Kong, and their "kids" that would be an event-level first for Kaiju movies - and equal parts hilarious and harrowing for fans.

Who Is Godzilla Jr.? - Also known as "Baby Godzilla" then "Little Godzilla", the offspring of Godzilla (or his species) started appearing in Toho Godzilla movies in the mid-1990s. He was featured in a trilogy of films (Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II, Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla, and Godzilla vs. Destoroyah) which tracked how Godzilla finds the young hatchling, lives with him, and fights beside him. In the battle with Destoroyah, Godzilla is fatally injured, and Jr. is killed; however, Godzilla Sr. gives his remaining radioactive life essence to revive his "son," transforming Godzilla Jr. in a full-fleged successor for his "father."

Adam Wingard has already hinted he has eyes on Godzilla vs. Destoroyah as inspiration for the next installment of the Monsterverse movies. Based on those comments, and his pronounced desire to bring more of an emotional arc to Godzilla, it seems like Godzilla fostering his own legacy with Jr. is the way to go. Toho has been meticulous about what WB can and can't do with Godzilla - and having a successor for him may be the only way to truly give Godzilla a big dramatic final act that has big stakes and emotion - kind of like Minus One.

Godzilla Jr. can not only get us there - he can carry the future of the franchise thereafter.

Godzilla x Kong is in theaters. The other Monsterverse content is streaming on Max (films) or Apple TV (Monarch TV series).

AMC Exec Reacts to Dune Popcorn Bucket Response https://comicbook.com/movies/news/amc-exec-reacts-to-dune-popcorn-bucket-response/ Fri, 12 Apr 2024 20:57:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 18b3de46-a2fd-490d-b9c3-03b2b931fefa

Collecting popcorn buckets has become a new trend for moviegoers, and AMC Theatres has teamed up with various studios to release some fun movie-themed buckets. However, things don't always turn out as planned. The Dune: Part Two souvenir sandworm bucket from AMC caused a huge stir online with many making NSFW jokes that resulted in a pretty funny Saturday Night Live sketch.

Denis Villeneuve and Timoth?e Chalamet Discuss the Dune Popcorn Bucket:

The New York Times sat down with Denis Villeneuve and Timoth?e Chalamet to talk about Dune: Part Two, and they were asked about the souvenir bucket. Chalamet gave a quick glance over at Villeneuve and the two chuckled nervously before responding.

"I don't want to make stupid jokes right now that will I regret tomorrow morning," Villeneuve said. "But I will say this. When I saw it, I went, 'Hoooooly smokes.' What the [expletive]!? At the same time, it created a lot of fun online. So maybe it's positive? It's some kind of ...impressive design."

"I can't tell if someone is at home right now going, 'My design worked perfectly and everyone's talking about it.' Or if someone's brutally offended by the response," Chalamet added.

Villeneuve hoped "that bucket brought a lot of laughter and joy" to moviegoers, though he and Chalamet both revealed that they had no part in the popcorn bucket's design.

Kevin Feige Teases "Intentionally Crude" Deadpool & Wolverine Popcorn Bucket:

It looks like Marvel Studios is taking advantage of the Dune popcorn bucket's popularity. Kevin Feige took the stage at CinemaCon during Disney's presentation this week, and revealed the movie will have an intentionally risqu? popcorn bucket.

"Deadpool & Wolverine is getting a popcorn bucket which will be intentionally crude and lewd. #CinemaCon," ComicBook.com's Brandon Davis shared on Twitter while attending the presentation. Move over Dune, because the Merc with the Mouth isn't afraid of stirring the pot.

How do you feel about the Dune popcorn bucket? Tell us in the comments!

Rumored Spider-Man 4 Director Justin Lin Just Took on New Project for Amazon MGM https://comicbook.com/movies/news/rumored-spider-man-4-director-justin-lin-took-on-new-project-stakehorse-amazon-mgm/ Fri, 12 Apr 2024 19:59:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 0d068596-4ec3-46c6-a675-7665c8bf0456

Justin Lin is known for helming multiple movies in the Fast & Furious franchise, and he's got some exciting projects in the works. There have been rumors that he's being eyed to direct the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Spider-Man 4, but there's been no confirmation since the reports started circulating last month. However, Lin does have another confirmed project on the way. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lin will direct the upcoming crime thriller Stakehorse for Amazon MGM.

In addition to directing, Lin is also producing the project under his Perfect Storm Entertainment banner along with Todd Lieberman and Alex Young from Hidden Pictures. Perfect Storm's Andrew Schneider and Sal Gatdula are executive producing. The script was written by Justin Piasecki, and it's centered on a horse veterinarian who does medical work for criminals on the side. According to THR, the tone is being compared to Ben Affleck's The Town.

Why Did Justin Lin Leave Fast X?

After directing multiple movies in The Fast Saga, Lin left the tenth installment after a reported "major disagreement" with Vin Diesel. Lin was replaced by Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk), who is also set to direct the 11th film. While Leterrier took on the directing responsibilities, Lin was still credited on Fast X as a producer and a writer. Speaking to ComicBook.com last year, Leterrier revealed that his longtime friendship with Lin allowed for an easy takeover.

"Justin and I are friends. We're buddies and colleagues and love each other and admire each other's work," Leterrier explained. "It's not like he was passing on the baton to somebody he didn't know and had never met. We were friends. We didn't meet in person, but we texted, called each other and there was nothing but love and sort of like, 'You're the right person. I'm leaving you my crew.'"

Leterrier added that he shared more texts with Lin as production was ongoing, and Lin supported him every step of the way.

"I texted him and said, 'Hey, Justin. Sorry, I forgot to text you and I had the greatest time and thank you so much, and what you said.' He told me, 'You have the best crew and the best cast. Have fun,'" Leterrier continued. "And I told him, 'You're right. It was the greatest professional experience of my life. Thank you, thank you, thank you.'"

Stay tuned for more updates about Lin.

Civil War Review

(Photo: A24)

Here's what host Kofi Outlaw said in his Civil War (2024) review:

With Civil War Garland takes on his most ambitious story yet, writing and directing a vision of what it would look like if America's Culture War explodes into an all-out Civil War - and not in some distant dystopian future, but right here, and right now.

By the end of the film, that sentiment persists, as we're left to wonder if a nation so violently divided could ever be healed again - even with significant symbolic action or "victory," on one side. More terrifying yet is the notion that all this horror and carnage is bubbling just below the surface of our current society, waiting to make this film all too real.

Civil War will not be an easy film to engage with, but it is an important one to consider.

Fallout TV Series Review

(Photo: Prime Video)

Here's what ComicBook gaming editor Tanner Dedmon said in his Fallout TV series review:

Even where the Fallout show slips on occasion with an unneeded kiss or a questionable encounter, time and time again, I kept marveling at how authentic the world felt. The original story told in Fallout is paramount to this trait since it lets us focus on the characters, world, and narrative rather than getting hung up on shot-for-shot remakes of key moments. Fallout is technically canon, according to Bethesda's Todd Howard, so it'll be under the microscope for nitpicking and "well actually" moments, but even when the show takes leaps to expand on the world, it always feels deserved.

Deadpool & Wolverine: Marvel Artist Shares New Concept Design https://comicbook.com/movies/news/deadpool-wolverine-marvel-costume-concept-artist-design/ Fri, 12 Apr 2024 18:24:00 +0000 Aaron Perine c3f7c4a7-7289-42ee-97ba-e025527693db

Deadpool & Wolverine stole the show at CinemaCon this week and now we've got a look at some new concept art of Wade Wilson from the movie. Marvel Studios artist Andy Park shared a quick peek at Deadpool's look that he designed for the MCU movie. It's a classical take on The Merc With A Mouth. The red and black are there, but there have been some nips and tucks to update his costume from the FOX days. With the movie poised to celebrate a lot of that era of X-Men films, it makes sense that the creative team would want Ryan Reynolds' hero to stand out from previous incarnations of Deadpool. Check out the first look at the art book down below!

Park wrote on social media: "MARVEL STUDIOS' DEADPOOL AND WOLVERINE: THE ART OF THE MOVIE comes out THIS October! Note: Not final cover art BUT it does showcase my concept design of Deadpool #deadpool #deadpoolandwolverine #conceptart"

Deadpool & Wolverine Brings Back Jackman

deadpool-3-trailer-wolverine-super-bowl.jpg

MCU fans have been waiting for this movie for a while now. Reynolds has managed to craft an unparalleled hype train for Deadpool & Wolverine. The second part of that title is a huge reason for all this fervor. Even the most positive Marvel fan didn't know if Hugh Jackman would ever come back to be his iconic X-Men character in live-action. But, that dream is now a reality. Reynolds told Collider that this has been his dream too, and he's so excited to bring this to fans.

"I always wanted Hugh to come back," Reynolds told the outlet. "My first meeting with Kevin Feige when Disney bought Fox years ago, maybe three years ago, or three and a half, four years ago, I'm not sure, was about doing a movie with the two of us, a Deadpool/Wolverine movie. And that was not possible at the time."

"And then Hugh just happened to call at that perfect moment and express that he'd be interested in coming back and doing this one more time," he continued. "And the contents of that conversation, I'll let Hugh, because I know it's only inevitable that you and Hugh are going to speak at some point soon, I'm sure. I'll let Hugh answer that on his own. But he expressed interest in coming back, and then it was my job to take that to Kevin Feige one more time and sell it."

X-Men Having A Major Moment

deadpool-3-hugh-jackman-wolverine.png

All the old X-Men stuff is coming back. (Heck. Even the 90s cartoon is getting another day in the sun.) ComicBook.com recently askedd Simon Kinberg about Deadpool & Wolverine and the love for the FOX universe stuff. Needless to say he's both amused and touched by all the chatter around a franchise he's been a part of.

"It's a good question because it's outside of actually being inside the process of making anything. The truth is, with the Marvel movies, if I answer anything, I'm just afraid there's gonna be a sniper's little red dot on my forehead and my children will be fatherless," Kinberg smirked with us. "So I'm just gonna say, I'm such a massive fan of everything that Hugh [Jackman]'s done with Wolverine. I think I made five movies he was in, in one form or another, as Wolverine and I'm very excited for the film. I know that for him, and for Ryan [Reynolds] and for Shawn [Levy], exploring some aspects that perhaps we haven't explored before, I would imagine is appealing."

Chris Farley Biopic to Star Paul Walter Hauser; Josh Gad To Direct https://comicbook.com/movies/news/chris-farley-biopic-to-star-paul-walter-hauser-josh-gad-to-direct/ Fri, 12 Apr 2024 17:45:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame 9ead941e-6e76-4689-8ba4-4636023f1f58

Josh Gad is set to direct an upcoming biopic based on the life of comedian Chris Farley. Adapted from The Chris Farley Show: A Bigoraphy in Three Acts, the as-yet-untitled movie will be produced by Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels and written by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber. Actor, comedian, and wrestler Paul Walter Hauser is reportedly attached to star as Farley. This won't be the star's first or even second foray into biopics, having earned acclaim for his title role in Richard Jewell, a 2019 movie about the man falsely accused of orchestrating a bombing of the 1996 Olympics.

In a quirky twist of fate, Richard Jewell wasn't even Hauser's first biopic about an Olympics-related controversy. Before he broke out in Richard Jewell, the actor played Shawn Eckhardt in 2017's I, Tonya.

The movie will be based on the biography written by Farley's brother Tom Farley Jr. and pop culture writer Tanner Colby, and Deadline -- who first reported on the project -- says the Farley family is supportive of the film.

Farley appeared in Saturday Night Live during one of its great "revivial" periods, starring alongside luminaries lke Phil Hartman and Adam Sandler, as well as bankable talents like David Spade and Rob Schneider. He is widely regarded as one of the best physical comedians of his generation, and incredibly capable and nimble for someone as big as he was.

His size would be a constant concern and bone of contention; former SNL writer and comedy icon Bob Odenkirk wrote in his memoir that he hated one of Farley's most beloved sketches.

"The first breakout moment for Chris was the 'Chippendales Audition' sketch on the Patrick Swayze-hosted episode in season 16," Odenkirk wrote in Comedy Comedy Comedy Drama.

"It was a huge bummer to me to see that scene get on the air and get such attention. I know it confirmed Chris's worst instincts about being funny, which was how he proved his worth -- that getting laughed at was as good as getting a laugh," Odenkirk continued. "Writers I knew and respected defended this sketch because it had a funnyish idea buried in it: the Chippendales judges prefer Swayze's dancing over Chris's but can't put a finger on why," he adds. "But that idea is not what produced the gales of cackling (and gasps) from the live audience. Chris flopping his overstuffed body around did that. I feel like I can see it on his face in the moment when he rips his shirt off. Shame and laughter are synthesized in the worst way. F--- that sketch."

Besides all the those biopics, Hauser recently had a role in Black Bird which earned him SAG and Emmy wins.

Civil War Review: A Terrifying Vision for All of Us https://comicbook.com/movies/news/civil-war-movie-reviews-2024-alex-garland-kirsten-dunst/ Fri, 12 Apr 2024 17:04:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw 4e93fd3c-935b-4e5b-b4a9-692536f8e975

Alex Garland is known for poking at viewers' thoughts and beliefs, even as he thrills them with unforgettable genre movie experiences. Whether it's writing films like 28 Days Later, Dredd, or Sunshine, or writing and directing films like Ex Machina and Annihilation, Garland is one of the top filmmakers operating at the level of cult-following hitmaker. With Civil War Garland takes on his most ambitious story yet, writing and directing a vision of what it would look like if America's Culture War explodes into an all-out Civil War - and not in some distant dystopian future, but right here, and right now.

The film follows a world-weary photojournalist named Lee (Kirsten Dunst) and her reporter partner Joel (Wagner Moura) who are covering a pivotal campaign of the Second American Civil War, which is being fought by multiple succeeding factions of the country. Lee and Joel get a lead that the White House will soon fall, and The President (Nick Offerman) will be captured by the rival WF military faction. They intended to be the first to report it, and start making plans to get from NYC to the front lines in Washington D.C., without getting killed along the way.

civil-war-2024-movie-cast-reviews.jpg
(Photo: A24)

Lee and Joel quickly get saddled with two additional passengers: their mentor, veteran reporter Sammy (Stephen McKinley Henderson), and Jessie (Cailee Spaeny), a young would-be photojournalist who idolizes Lee. As the journey progresses, the group is forced to witness what America has become during the war, realizing the soul of the nation - as well as their own souls - may never be the same.

Civil War marks the most ambitious and large-scale project that Alex Garland has ever taken on. There's sure to be a furious debate of the socio-political implications of the film, but what can't be debated is the visual accomplishment here, which deserves the scope of an IMAX screen. Garland and his longtime collaborator, cinematographer Rob Hardy (Annihilation, Ex Machina, Mission: Impossible - Fallout) strike a deep chord of resonance by turning our current Americana landscape (from the cookie-cutter strip malls to the urban centers, small-town suburbs, and rural regions) into hauntingly real wartime landscapes. There is imagery in Civil War that will be impossible to forget - whether its bodies blown to bits in a block of midtown Manhattan, bodies strung up in a car wash, or carnage littering the sides of the highway; all familiar settings turned into war zones.

That is arguably the goal of the filmmakers: in a modern world where visual content is the biggest motivator, Civil War forces everyone to reconcile with a vision of what war across America would truly look like. It's a major blow to idealized socio-political fantasies of one side "winning," or "being right," - and how ugly the "fix" truly is for getting rid of unwanted neighbors or purging oppositional beliefs. The script by Garland seems to be a simple "Point-A -to-Point-B" quest through a hellish terrain, but it's a much smarter and more layered parable than that, which holds everyone accountable for division and violence. It's no mistake that our protagonists are characters wrestling with the role of witnessing and creating content out of such harrowing events - nor does the film let them (or us) off the hook for the voyeuristic thrill of watching carnage as entertainment.

kirsten-dunst-in-civil-war-2024-movie.jpg
(Photo: A24)

There will be a lot of debate about the political commentary of this film, no doubt, and Garland is not immune to leaking some of his own bias into it. That said, as an outsider looking in, the UK-born filmmaker quite purposefully characterizes this version of America's civil conflict as having a dizzying amount of different sides, factions, and random combatants to keep track of - to the point that any "heroes" or "villains" become indistinguishable. The reporters' journey reveals that even in strife, America remains a pastiche of left, right, center, 'Who cares?' beliefs, all colliding. Some people ignore the war; others could care less about sides, just survival; others (medical and social workers) care about service and care of everyone involved; some take up arms and choose to govern things themselves. Dunst's character hammers home that all war is hell, and all battlefields are soul-crushing hellscapes, with no true "victories" to be found - socially, politically, or spiritually.

With all that going on, it's hard to look at Civil War in the traditional terms of a movie. The characters are left rather opaque (mostly brushstrokes of implication), but each cast member has a solid grip on the full scope of their character, conveying much with just looks, gestures, and sparse dialogue. Dunst and Spaeny are a compelling duo, conveying an entire subplot about the personal cost of ambition, fame, and exploitation in pursuit of seemingly noble goals - and how it influences the next generation. Moura and Henderson are great foils for their female co-stars, and certain actors that appear (like Breaking Bad's Jesse Plemons) leave big impressions during their brief vignettes.

Minecraft has been cooking for a while. But, director Jared Hess is encouraged by what they've accomplished so far. Speaking to The Salt Lake Tribune, the filmmaker talked about the upcoming video game adaptation. With so many titles becoming movies now, fans expect a certain respect for the source material. Hess knows the Minecraft fans are legion, and he's prepared to give them something they can really be excited about. The director brought up the reaction to the original Sonic the Hedgehog live-action design as an example of when that expectation can work against you.

"I think anybody that does any IP, they just want to avoid an ugly 'Sonic' situation," Hess mused. "I just can't disappoint the 10-year-olds, or they're going to murder us." Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks, Jack Black, Kate McKinnon, Emma Myers and Sebastian Eugene Hansen are all starring in the Minecraft movie.

Minecraft is currently building to a theatrical release on April 4, 2025.

Roku Hack Results in Over 500,000 Accounts Compromised https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/roku-hack-five-thousand-accounts-compromised/ Fri, 12 Apr 2024 14:47:00 +0000 Timothy Adams 2b6c93a8-1636-4b4f-9fb9-52c297d126e9

Roku has suffered a security breach that has left over 500,000 accounts compromised. This comes on the heels of Roku reporting a hack last month that left 15,000 accounts breached. Unfortunately, hacks and data breaches have become the norm for companies, with customers feeling the effects of having their accounts exposed and personal data at risk. It can sometimes lead to large payouts if the company is found to be at fault or taken to court. In Roku's case, it has chosen to notify affected customers while resetting their passwords and turning on two-factor authentication.

"After concluding our investigation of this first incident, we notified affected customers in early March and continued to monitor account activity closely to protect our customers and their personal information," Roku said in a blog post. "Through this monitoring we identified a second incident, which impacted approximately 576,000 additional accounts." Roku states its research indicates the company wasn't the source of the account credentials being used in the attacks, or that Roku's systems were compromised in either incident.

"In less than 400 cases, malicious actors logged in and made unauthorized purchases of streaming service subscriptions and Roku hardware products using the payment method stored in these accounts, but they did not gain access to any sensitive information, including full credit card numbers or other full payment information," the company states.

How Roku is addressing data breach

The steps Roku is taking to address the data breach hack are resetting the passwords of all affected accounts and notifying the customers impacted, refunding or reversing charges that it could determine came from unauthorized actors, and enabling two-factor authentication (2FA) for all Roku accounts, even for those that have not been impacted by these recent incidents.

The next time you attempt to log in to your Roku account online, a verification link will be sent to the email address associated with your account, and you will need to click the link in the email before you can access the account.

Roku also offers tips on creating strong passwords, while also staying vigilant and suspicious of any communications that may appear to come from Roku, and to stay informed by checking your Roku account periodically, looking for communications from Roku, and review account charges.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version) Scores Major Ratings for Disney+ https://comicbook.com/movies/news/taylor-swift-the-eras-tour-taylors-version-scores-major-ratings-for-disney/ Fri, 12 Apr 2024 04:54:00 +0000 Nicole Drum 1761e617-bed8-4cd5-86e3-c289a93630db

It's been almost a month since Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version) made its debut on Disney+ and the Nielsen ratings are finally out making it clear that the concert movie was a big ratings win for the streamer. According to the streaming ratings (via The Hollywood Reporter), The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version) hit an impressive 677 million minutes of viewing in the United States the week it was released -- the film debuted on March 14th. Those numbers put it at the eighth most-watched title on streaming during the week of March 11th.

Additionally, Nielsen's numbers clarify a bit The Era's Tour (Taylor's Version)'s performance over its first four days, which come to around 3.22 million views of the movie during that timeframe. Disney had previously said that the film had 4.6 million views worldwide over its first three days so these numbers make it pretty clear that a significant number of views came from within the United States. It's important to note, however, that Nielsen's streaming ratings only cover viewing on television sets. They do not include minutes watched on computers or mobile devices and only track U.S. audiences.

What Is Taylor Swift's Movie About?

Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour showcases Swift's performance of songs from her first ten albums -- Taylor Swift, Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989, reputation, Lover, folklore, evermore, and Midnights. In celebration of the movie's release, AMC upgraded its ticket-booking capacity by five times to account for fan demand. It also priced standard adult tickets at $19.89 -- a reference to the year Swift was born, as well as her fifth album 1989 -- with children's and senior tickets at $13.13, which is a reference to Swift's lucky number.

"The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far and I'm overjoyed to tell you that it'll be coming to the big screen soon," Swift wrote when announcing the film on social media. "Starting Oct 13th you'll be able to experience the concert film in theaters in North America! ...Eras attire, friendship bracelets, singing and dancing encouraged 1, 2, 3 LGB!!!! (iykyk)"

Are More Taylor Swift Concerts Coming to Disney+?

Earlier this month during Disney's shareholder call, the question was asked if there would be more concert content from Taylor Swift on Disney+. Disney CEO Bob Iger didn't have anything immediate to announce but did note that the company "hopes to continue working with her".

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version) is now streaming on Disney+.
