WWE 2K24 is finally here, which means players worldwide are jumping in to try out all the latest modes with their favorite Superstars. One of the most prominent modes in this year's release is MyFaction, the WWE 2K24 version of the popular Ultimate Team modes that every sports franchise has these days. While MyFaction isn't as beloved as other Ultimate Team modes, this year's version does include a special wrinkle with Persona cards. If you get these cards, you'll also unlock them for use in other modes, making MyFaction an important place in WWE 2K24. Fortunately, the developers often drop Locker Codes into the game that players can use to rack up free rewards in MyFaction. Below, you'll find an updated list of every Locker Code in WWE 2K24 and a breakdown of how to use them.

How to Use Locker Codes in WWE 2K24

(Photo: 2K Games)

If you've never redeemed a Locker Code, the good news is that it's relatively easy. From the MyFaction main menu, navigate to the "Live" tab and click on it. Once you're in the "Live" menu, flick to the bottom of the screen to select the "Locker Codes" tab. Then, just type in the Locker Code, and you'll redeem the reward.

As far as finding new Locker Codes, your best bet is to keep this page bookmarked. That said, 2K will often announce new codes on its social media or through in-game ads. It's also possible that the team might drop new codes during live WWE events. The NBA 2K team loves to do that with important NBA games, and we might see the WWE 2K team do that more this year, especially with the increased importance of the mode for all players.

All Available Locker Codes in WWE 2K24

As of April 15th, 2024, these are the Locker Codes currently in WWE 2K24:

  • WRESTLEMANIAXL - Cody Rhodes Superstar Series 1 Gold MyFaction Card (Rating: 68), Bailey Superstars Series 1 Silver MyFaction Card (Rating: 64).
  • YOURSTORY2K24 - Elite John Cena (Mattel) Emerald Persona Card and 7,500 VC - Expires April 1st
  • HEADOFTHETABLE - 2x MyFaction packs (Legends Series) + Roman Reigns Free Agent Sapphire (79) card

There is also code in the WWE 2K24 backend hinting at an upcoming Hulk Hogan Persona card that's coming down the line. Make sure to keep your eyes locked in for new codes, and don't forget to input them before they expire. Once they're gone, you won't be able to claim the award unless 2K adds a new code for the reward. We will keep this list updated as more Locker Codes are added to the game.

WWE 2K24 is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and PC platforms.

Fallout Creator Tim Cain Praises TV Show, Rebukes "Destructive" Fans https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/fallout-creator-tim-cain-praises-tv-show/ Tue, 16 Apr 2024 02:53:00 +0000 Ricky Frech ad2954c8-6e16-42ff-ae58-d93638039d85

The Fallout TV series has quickly become a major hit for Prime Video and Bethesda Game Studios. Not only are fans loving the show but they've also been flocking to games like Fallout 4 and Fallout 76 to extend their stay in The Wasteland. It's not just the fans who are enjoying the game because the creator of the original Fallout game Tim Cain recently posted a new video on his personal YouTube channel, revealing some of his thoughts on the show, while also letting fans know they should be a little nicer to the Fallout developers who followed in his footsteps.

Tim Cain Was "On the Edge of His Seat" Watching the Fallout TV Show

As the original creator of Fallout, it's no surprise to hear that Tim Cain was invited to the Fallout premiere event. There, he (and several other developers) got to watch the first two episodes of the show before it went live on Amazon. While he said it was, at times, hard to pay attention to the dialogue because of how "engrossed" he was looking at the various props brought to life, he thoroughly enjoyed his time with the show.

Cain was quick to praise the Fallout TV show's humor, acting, and ability to nail the vibe of the series. Of course, he only saw the first two episodes, but anyone who's been watching the show will tell you the rest of the series does a similarly excellent job with the rest of its run time. However, in his 16-minute discussion about the premiere event, Cain brought up something else that's seemingly been weighing on him after getting to talk to some of the other developers who worked on the Fallout franchise after he left it behind.

Specifically, Cain talked about catching up with Brian Fargo, the current CEO of inXile Entertainment and former founder of Interplay, the studio Cain worked on when he created Fallout. The two talked about how some of Cain's fans had been sending Fargo mean-spirited messages over the years and Cain made it clear that he doesn't want anyone doing that, calling it "destructive" behavior. He reiterated that same point later in his video while talking about meeting up with Bethesda's Todd Howard at the event. Either way, it's clear that these developers certainly don't need fans on the internet fighting over them.

What's Next for Tim Cain?

As the creator of Fallout, Cain has incredible game development chops. He's since followed that up by working on games like Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, South Park: The Stick of Truth, Pillars of Eternity, and The Outer Worlds. However, since 2020 he's left behind full-time game development, instead preferring to work as a contractor and pass his knowledge along to the next generation of developers.

That said, he's not completely finished working on games. Cain is consulting on The Outer Worlds 2, which is in development at Obsidian Entertainment. The game is slated to release in 2025, though it would not be surprising to see it slip back to 2026 given that Obsidian is currently working on Avowed, its answer to The Elder Scrolls. Either way, it'll be fun to see the influence Cain has on The Outer Worlds 2 when it releases.

MLB The Show 24: All Hidden Rewards for Jackie Robinson Day Conquest Map https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/mlb-the-show-24-hidden-rewards-jackie-robinson-day-conquest-map/ Tue, 16 Apr 2024 00:59:00 +0000 Ricky Frech cdeb1ae8-3cba-4eb0-a569-6423ec9cde51

Since 2004, every April 15th has been Jackie Robinson Day in the MLB. The day was selected because April 15th was Opening Day in 1947, the first season Robinson suited up to play for the Brooklyn Dodgers and break the color barrier in professional baseball. As you'd expect, MLB The Show 24 is also celebrating Robinson with new content, including a Program full of Negro League players, a pack that sends proceeds to relevant charities, and a new Conquest Map full of rewards. For the latter, you'll want to know which territories to take over to earn every award quickly, so below, you'll find a full breakdown for the Jackie Robinson Day Conquest Map in MLB The Show 24.

Hidden Rewards on the Jackie Robison Day Conquest Map

mlb-the-show-24-jackie-robinson-conquest.jpg

As you can see in the image above there are all kinds of Hidden Rewards to earn on the Jackie Robinson Day Conquest Map. It's also worth noting that, in addition to the awards listed in the map above, several of the Strongholds contain extra rewards, which we've noted below. Here's the full rundown on everything you'll earn from Hidden Rewards:

  • 4 The Show Packs
  • 336 Stubs
  • Ballin' Pack - Royals Stronghold
  • 42 Stubs - Right Yankees Stronghold
  • The Show Pack - Left Yankees Stronghold

MLB The Show 24 Jackie Robinson Day Goals

With the hidden rewards out of the way, you'll also want to track down all of the normal goals to make sure you get everything. If you want to unlock everything, you'll need to play at least six games, though you can play them all on Rookie to make it easier. Here are the regular goals for the Conquest Map:

  • Acquire 42M Fans - 2 x The Show Pack and 42 Stubs
  • Capture the 3 Los Angeles Dodgers Strongholds - 1 x Headliners Pack and 42 Stubs
  • Capture the Kansas City Royals Stronghold - 2 x The Show Packs and 42 Stubs
  • Capture both New York Yankees Strongholds - 1 x Millionaire Pack and 42 Stubs
  • Conquer all territories and complete the Jackie Robinson Day map - 5 x The Show Packs, 42 Stubs, and 1,000 XP

Finally, it's worth noting that finishing this Conquest Map gives you 35 Points for the Jackie Robinson Day Program. Considering you need 50 Points to complete the Program, this is almost a required completion. Sure, you can complete it by finishing online challenges, but the Conquest Map is going to be much easier for most players.

MLB The Show 24 is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms. While the new Conquest Map is going to get you some good rewards, the best place to pick up new cards is in the Egg Hunt. If you need help with the Egg Hunt program, we've put together a guide giving you the locations for all of the eggs.

Fallout Showrunners Reveal Why Deathclaws Didn't Appear in Season 1 https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/fallout-season-1-deathclaws-new-vegas-season-2-reason/ Tue, 16 Apr 2024 00:52:00 +0000 Charlie Ridgely 481e54e1-efb7-4167-b7e9-d7a21771814c

The first season of Prime Video's highly anticipated Fallout TV series debuted in its entirety last week, taking fans of the popular video game franchise to the post-apocalyptic wasteland we've spent years exploring. The show featured all kinds of Easter eggs and nods to the games, including a few popular creatures from the wasteland. We saw Yaogui and Gulpers, but the likes of Super Mutants and Deathclaws -- arguably the most iconic creatures from the games -- were missing from the show.

Without giving any specifics away about the ending of Fallout Season 1, one of the very last shots of the finale features the skull of a Deathclaw in the desert, teasing their existence and setting them up for a debut in Season 2. But why hold them for the sophomore season?

According to the Fallout showrunners, it was all about saving some big elements from the games for the future. During a recent interview with TheWrap, showrunners Graham Wagner and Geneve Robertson-Dworet talked about that Deathclaw tease.

"We wanted to get Deathclaws, but we didn't want to just throw it away," Wagner explained. "It's such a monumental piece. We want to save something for Season 2 to be able to do it properly, not just added on to the massive world building we had to do already in Season 1. So Season 2, we're very excited to finally tackle one of the most iconic elements of the games."

Robertson-Dworet went on to say that it was a challenge to decide exactly what from the Fallout games needed to be in Season 1 and what needed to be saved for later.

"There's all the greatest hit things, like the most obvious things that people who aren't even gamers know about Fallout, like Nuka-Cola, Deathclaws, whatever. There are these things that are just so prevalent and we were tempted to do all of them in Season 1," she said. "But on the other hand, we didn't want to see the show seem like it was written by people who just like spent 10 seconds reading the Wikipedia page for Fallout and didn't bother to bring in some deeper cuts. So it was important to us to also bring deeper cuts into Season 1. Hopefully that won't piss off fans because we didn't get to every last thing, but hopefully they will bear with us and pray with us that we get a second season to bring these things to screen."

Fallout hasn't been officially renewed for Season 2, but the stars seem to be aligning for a series return.

Overwatch 2 Releases Season 10 Patch Notes https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/overwatch-2-season-10-patch-notes/ Tue, 16 Apr 2024 00:13:00 +0000 Ricky Frech c6d8afd8-03ce-4712-a53b-069532508493

Overwatch 2 kicks off Season 10 on April 16th, but the developers at Blizzard Entertainment have provided fans with the full patch notes one day early. We've known the broad strokes about what's coming in the update for a few weeks now, namely that Overwatch 2 is getting a new hero named Venture. There have also been reveals about characters like Wrecking Ball getting a substantial update to make them more approachable. That said, the patch notes dig deep into everything coming with the Season 10 patch, including the new limited-time mode Clash Trial.

The new mode is pitched as a new "core game mode" which pits two teams up against each other in a race to control five different capture points. The Clash also brings a new map called Hananoka. This is an offshoot of Hanamura that lets players explore local shops and "the once-proud Shimada castle." The Season 10 patch also brings a Mythic Hero Skin update. Now, players will be able to earn new Mythic Hero Skins by earning Mythic Prisms through the Premium Battle Pass. Of course, you can also purchase Prisms if you're not interested in grinding. There are also all kinds of mode and hero changes, as well as a host of bug fixes.

Below, you'll find the full patch notes for the new Season 10 update. Overwatch 2 is available now on PlayStation, Switch, Xbox, and PC.

Overwatch 2 Season 10 Update Patch Notes

overwatch-2-venture.jpg

Limited-Time Mode: Clash Trial

Clash is an upcoming core game mode in Overwatch 2. Teams must battle back and forth over 5 capture points, with each captured objective adding a point to the prevailing team's score. Teams can win in two ways: either by having control of all five objectives at once, or by scoring five points total before the other team. Clash will be available as a limited-time trial through April 29.

How Clash is played

  • Five total objectives placed in a linear pattern on a mirrored map.
  • Only one objective is active at a time.
  • Matches start with the center objective active.
  • Players capture an objective by standing on it and filling in a progress bar. Capture progress cannot be made if enemy players are contesting the objective.
  • When a team captures the current objective, they are awarded one point to their total score and a new objective moving forward from the scoring team's side is activated.
  • Objectives can be secured multiple times. If a team is pushed off an objective and the other team successfully captures it, the next active point will be in the opposite direction.

Win Conditions

Complete one of these conditions to win the match:

  • A team has successfully captured five objectives throughout the match to reach a total score of five.

  • Regardless of score, a team manages to take the final objective (A or E) on the opponents' side.

Hanaoka - New Map
Explore never-before-seen corners of Hanamura in the new map Hanaoka, inspired by the visual themes of the beloved Assault map. Explore the shops and restaurants around town or follow the scent of Sakura trees into the once-proud Shimada castle.

Mythic Hero Skin Updates

Mythic Hero Skins

  • Mythic Hero Skins are now unlocked in the new Mythic Shop in exchange for Mythic Prisms.
  • Mythic Hero Skins are unlocked for 50 Mythic Prisms with a starting set of customizations and then can be leveled up with 10 Mythic Prisms per level. You can unlock the skin and all available customizations for a Mythic Hero Skin for 80 Prisms.

Introducing Mythic Prisms

  • Mythic Prisms can be earned in the Premium Battle Pass and used in the Mythic Shop to purchase the current featured Mythic Hero Skin for the season and select previous Mythic hero skins. You can earn a total of 80 Mythic Prisms when you complete Premium Battle Pass.
  • Earning Mythic Prisms in the Premium Battle Pass is the easiest way to unlock a Mythic Hero Skin and all customizations each season. You can also purchase additional Mythic Prisms in game or in your platform's store marketplace.

General Updates

Challenges

  • Completing Weekly Challenge milestones will now reward additional Battle Pass XP.
  • Overwatch Coins that were earned in the Weekly Challenges can now be earned in the Battle Pass for all players.
  • Reduced the number of Weekly Challenges.

Developer Comments: The number of Weekly Challenges has grown over time, and we are simplifying what players can aim to accomplish, while also making earning Battle Pass XP more straightforward.

Endorsement Changes

Players who are actioned for disruptive behavior and reduced to Endorsement Level 0 cannot use text or voice chat features until they return to Endorsement Level 1.

Developer Comments: Since we added the Endorsement system to Overwatch, players who have been actioned because of social reports (Inappropriate Communication, Gameplay Sabotage, etc) have had their Endorsement Level reduced to Level 0. That part of the system isn't changing, but going forward, Level 0 players will no longer be able to speak in voice channels or type in text chat in most modes.

Hide My Name

  • Updated option in Streamer Protect, found in your Social Options.
  • You are now able to hide your BattleTag from other players in your group and from your friends in the match as well.
  • When enabled, anywhere your BattleTag is displayed to players during a match now displays a random anonymized BattleTag, instead of only to the player with the "Hide My Name" setting visibly enabled.

Developer Comments: "The "Hide My Name" setting in the Social Options now displays a random anonymized Battle Tag to all players in a match, instead of only to the player with the "Hide My Name" setting enabled. New settings have been added to "Hide My Name From Friends" and "Hide My Name From Group." Of these two settings, "Hide My Name From Friends" takes priority when group members are also friends. A large list of hand-crafted BattleTags have been created to support this feature. Could it contain easter eggs or silly references?"

Progression

  • Added progression badges/sub-badges and rewards for Venture. Rewards can be found in Hero Challenges.

Leaver Penalties

Two new thresholds for Unranked Leave Penalties have been added:

  • Leaving two out of 20 games will result in a 5-minute suspension from queuing for most modes.
  • 10 or more out of 20 games will result in a 48-hour suspension from queuing for most modes.
  • All other threshold tiers are unchanged.

Developer Comments: Overwatch 2 is a competitive game even for Unranked game modes, and the match experience for all remaining players is negatively affected when a player leaves before it is completed. Remember a penalty only applies when you leave games and not when you complete games.

By introducing a lighter 5-minute penalty, we aim to discourage players from deliberately leaving games they don't want to play, while not impacting those who may have a technical issue or an urgent need to step away from the game which they can resolve by the time the queue suspension is finished. The larger 48-hour suspension aims to target a very small portion of players who are aggressively leaving games.

Leaving 10 games in Competitive Play will now result in a season ban regardless of the number of games completed.

  • Players can still get banned from Competitive Play in as few as 5 games if they leave very consistently and don't complete enough games to get back into good standing.

Games completed in Competitive Play now count toward the 20-game window of the Unranked Leaver Penalty.

Developer Comments: We already suspend players who leave a Competitive and increase penalties up to a season ban for leaving games frequently, but players can work their way back into good standing if they complete several matches. However, this new rule will stop players from gaming the system over time.

Competitive Updates

Competitive Role-Specific Titles

  • End-of-season titles for Competitive Role Queue now include the role the rank was achieved in.
  • Examples include Champion Tank, Champion Support, Champion Damage, and Open Queue Champion.

Competitive Progress

  • Each Role Rank Card now displays the associated Competitive Role-Specific title.
  • Role Rank Cards can now be selected to open the Match History for the selected role.
  • Match history will display the following: Map / Game Mode, Heroes / Role, Date, Score, Results of the match
  • Match History can now be selected to open the Game Report for a match.

Grouping Restrictions

  • All previous Competitive Grouping Restrictions have been removed.

  • All groups in Competitive Play are now classified as Narrow or Wide.

  • Players between Bronze and Diamond must be within five divisions of each other player in their group to be in a Narrow Group.

  • Players at Master must be within three divisions of each other player in their group to be in a Narrow Group.

  • Players at Grandmaster and Champion cannot be in Narrow groups, regardless of how close their ranks are. This restriction ensures that our highest-ranked players have the highest quality Narrow matches.

  • Narrow Groups will always be matched against other Narrow Groups or solo players. If a group has both Wide and Narrow configurations of players, the Narrow configuration will always be prioritized.

  • Any group that does not meet the criteria is considered a Wide Group.

  • Wide Groups of four players may not queue. This restriction exists so that solo players are never required to make a Wide match.

  • Wide Groups have increased queue times and reduced match quality because it's more difficult to find another group of players with the same ranks in the same roles to match against.

  • The amount a player's Rank Progress changes after each match is modified by the group's width.

  • The wider the group is, the less their ranks will change when winning or losing.

  • The higher the rank of the highest-ranked player in a Wide Group, the less the ranks of all players in the group will change when winning or losing.

  • Players will now be informed if the configuration of roles they have selected would result in a Wide Group.

  • The Tier Legend has been updated, and a new banner has been added to explain the rules described above.

Rank Information

  • New Modifier: "Wide"--this modifier reduces changes in Rank Progress when winning or losing matches. The wider your group, the less your Rank Progress will change with each win or loss.
  • The modifier "Volatile" has been renamed to "Demotion."
  • Arrows displayed under the modifiers have been changed to point from left to right instead of right to left.
  • New Modifier: Demotion Protection
  • This modifier appears on the Rank Progress bar to denote when you did not go down in Skill Division because of a loss. If you lose the next match after, then you are dropped down to the previous Skill Division.
  • Victory and Defeat have been added below the Rank Progress bar where modifiers are displayed.

Golden Weapons

  • Golden weapons can now be purchased with either Legacy Competitive Points or 2024 Competitive Points. You cannot purchase weapons with a combination of both currencies.

Hero Updates

New Hero: Venture

  • Venture has been added to the line-up.
  • Venture is immediately available to play in Competitive Play.

Developer Comments: This is a pretty major change from past heroes, but we've always wanted to allow new heroes into Competitive when a new season for Overwatch 2 launches. In the past, we wanted to make sure new heroes were free of any bugs or outstanding balance issues, as well as giving players enough time to unlock a hero from the Battle Pass. Because of the recent hero trial, we're confident Venture is ready to jump into the action right away...

Tanks

Doomfist

Rocket Punch

  • The empowered punch is no longer consumed when the windup is canceled by using Seismic Slam or Power Block.

Developer Comments: This quality-of-life improvement streamlines the transition between charging up an empowered Rocket Punch and another ability by removing the requirement of pressing the cancel input first.

Junker Queen

Carnage

  • Impact damage increased from 90 to 105.

Reinhardt

Earthshatter

  • Knockdown duration increased from 2.75 to 3 seconds.
  • Shockwave range increased from 20 to 25 meters.

Sigma

Experimental Barrier

  • Movement speed increased from 16.5 to 20 meters per second.

Developer Comments: This change will improve Sigma's ability to protect allies that are further away from him.

Wrecking Ball

Grappling Claw

  • Hold the jump input while the Grappling Claw is attached to terrain to retract it, pulling yourself towards the anchor point. This action can be rebound in his hero settings.
  • Now has a one second cooldown if Wrecking Ball never reaches ramming speed before canceling the ability. Interrupting him with Hack, Hinder, and stuns will still trigger the full cooldown.
  • The maximum duration timer no longer triggers unless he reaches ramming speed.

Adaptive Shield

  • Can now be reactivated to redistribute up to 300 overhealth to nearby allies, capping at 75 per person.
  • Enemy and ally detection radius increased from 10 to 13 meters.

Minefield

  • Health increased from 50 to 60.

Developer Comments: The general goals here are to add a direct way for Wrecking Ball to support his allies aside from purely enemy team disruption, make the hero more approachable while also adding more avenues for skill expression, and improve quality of life around the grapple.

Damage

Sombra

Virus

Total damage over time decreased from 100 to 90.

Tracer

Recall

  • Cooldown increased from 12 to 13 seconds.

Pulse Bomb

  • Base projectile size decreased from 0.2 to 0.1 meters. The total projectile size is now 0.25 meters.

Developer Comments: There is now more downtime before Tracer can safely reengage after driving her away and Pulse Bomb will require more precision.

Venture

Drill Dash

  • Impact damage decreased from 60 to 40.
  • Damage over time increased from 40 to 60.

Clobber

  • Impact damage decreased from 40 to 30.
  • Damage over time increased from 30 to 40.

Tectonic Shock

  • Vertical knockback decreased by 30%.

Developer Comments: We are redistributing the damage on some of their abilities so that positioning relative to the enemy and tracking a target are more important for dealing maximum damage.

Support

Illari

Solar Rifle

  • Primary fire recovery increased from 0.2 to 0.25 seconds.
  • Secondary fire heal-per-second increased from 105 to 115.

L?cio

Sonic Amplifier

  • Damage per projectile decreased from 20 to 18.

Soundwave

  • Damage increased from 35 to 45.

Lifeweaver

Rejuvenating Dash

  • Heal increased from 50 to 60.

Tree of Life

  • Pulse healing increased from 75 to 90.

Moira

Biotic Grasp

  • Damage per second decreased from 65 to 60.

Coalescence

  • Self-heal per second increased from 50 to 55.

Bug Fixes

General

  • Hero Mastery Gauntlet - fixed a bug that could cause more AI teammates than intended.
  • Fixed a bug with Wall Climb that could allow Heroes with the passive to climb infinitely.
  • Fixed a bug with Diamond, Masters, and Grandmaster not playing any effects when entering the Top 500.
  • Fixed a bug with duplicate entries on the Leaderboard.
  • Fixed the missing flash notification on taskbar when joining a game as a backfill.

Maps

  • Fixed in a previous update - resolved an issue where jump pads could become deactivated.

Circuit Royal

  • Fixed an issue with the payload tires launching players unexpectedly.

Para?so

  • Fixed an area near the second point where the payload dock could negatively impact Earth Shatter and Tectonic Shock's ability to hit larger heroes.

Heroes

Echo

  • Fixed an issue with Duplicate that could prevent a death being counted if it was used as Echo falls off the map.
  • Fixed an interaction with Mei's Ice Wall that could allow you to get under the map.
  • Fixed a bug with Power Block sounds triggering even if it was not blocking damage.
  • Fixed an issue with Captive Sun affecting targets through floors and ceilings.

Junkrat

  • Fixed a bug with Riptire receiving the self-healing passive.
  • Fixed a bug where some un-targetable heroes could be healed by Tree of Life.

Mauga

  • Fixed an interaction with Overrun and Brigitte's Shield Bash that resulted in Mauga being knocked down with Overrun active.

Mercy

  • Fixed a bug with the Caduceus Staff not opening up with the Parasol emote and Pose.
  • Fixed a bug that would prevent Drill Dash from activating while underground if the input was pressed while falling through the air and Burrow was active.
  • Fixed a bug where Drill Dash could deal damage multiple times with the initial impact and instantly kill targets or knock them back exceedingly far.
  • Fixed a bug where certain heroes were still being pushed back even if they escaped from Drill Dash.
  • Fixed a bug where Venture would sometimes launch very far if using Drill Dash off a ledge while Burrowed.
  • Fixed a bug where attempting to emerge during Burrow near ledges would sometimes end the ability prematurely.
  • Fixed a bug where the third-person camera would snap back to first-person instantly if you were in the air when burrow ended.
  • Fixed a bug where UI prompts for emerging and Drill Dash were not visible during Burrow.
  • Fixed a bug that could allow players to prevent footfall audio from playing.

Dying Light 2 Adding New Game Mode This Week https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/dying-light-2-nightmare-mode/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 23:09:00 +0000 Logan Moore 4626aff8-83df-47c1-8b20-0c3b95c23b8e

Techland has announced that it will soon be adding an all-new game mode to Dying Light 2. Since its launch in early 2022, Techland has continued to bring new updates and DLC to help build out the experience even further. These post-release additions aren't slated to end any time soon, as a major new expansion for DL2 is also on the horizon. In the near term, though, a new mode will be dropping in-game later this week that the studio has now detailed.

Outlined on Techland's official blog, it was revealed that Nightmare Mode will be brought to Dying Light 2 on Thursday, April 18. This mode is similar to the one that was seen in the original Dying Light and is meant to offer a more hardcore experience for players. While it's quite similar to the Nightmare Mode from the previous game, Techland has said that it has also incorporated new elements that take into account the various changes that have been seen in DL2.

"Nightmare Mode removes the majority of HUD elements," said Techland's description of the new addition. "To notice an enemy, you will need to rely on your eyes and ears, instead of checking the UI markers. Additionally, we rebalanced some of the gameplay aids, such as Boosters, so that their use could become more tactical and involve a level of consideration on the player's side. We took great care in making this mode as immersive and atmospheric as possible, so we borrowed the flickering flashlight from the first Dying Light."

Beyond these alterations, Techland has also tweaked how stamina works in Dying Light 2. Dubbed "Tactical Stamina," this new system for Nightmare mode will require players to pay more attention to how they use their stamina as it now regenerates much more slower. As a result, it's easier to be killed in Dying Light 2 if you're not managing your stamina appropriately as enemies have the ability to overrun you more quickly.

As mentioned, the biggest addition coming in the future to Dying Light 2 is the game's second major story expansion. Details surrounding "DLC 2" have yet to be provided by Techland, but it is known that this add-on will feature a new map and gameplay systems. This add-on is slated to come about later in 2024 with a more specific month still not provided.

At BlizzCon 2024, developer Blizzard revealed that it's currently working on the next expansion for World of Warcraft. The War Within will be the first part in a three-part series of expansions that Blizzard is calling the World Soul Saga, and it is scheduled to launch later this year. If Blizzard wants to stick to its usual release cadence for World of Warcraft expansions, it'll need to launch The War Within's beta relatively soon. Today, World of Warcraft players were treated to great news as Blizzard finally opened signups for The War Within beta.

When Does the World of Warcraft: The War Within Beta Start?

In opening up beta signups, Blizzard has indicated that The War Within beta is right around the corner. In a previously shared roadmap, the developers said it was coming this summer, so we're right in that window with today's announcement. That said, the World of Warcraft team didn't share concrete information about when the beta will start, though they did say players who sign up may receive an e-mail granting them access. Those invitations will come in waves, so if you don't get one soon, you may still gain access as more testers are let into the new WoW beta.

Either way, if you want to sign up, all you need to do is head to the official site and click the "Sign Up!" button. From there, you'll need to enter your account details and then you should be good to go. If you're selected, you'll need to install The War Within beta branch from the "In Development" tab. Then, you'll be able to create a new character or transfer your main character over and get to testing.

World of Warcraft: The War Within Release Date

World of Warcraft: The War Within doesn't have a firm release yet; however, the previously mentioned roadmap did show that Blizzard's current plans have it launching toward the end of the summer. That would mean the next expansion is launching in August or September, but that date could shift around. Dragonflight and Shadowlands both dropped in November when they launched, but the two expansions before those came out in August. Regardless, it's a safe bet to say that The War Within is coming this fall.

The new expansion has fans excited, especially from a story-telling perspective, because Blizzard is developing the next three expansions concurrently, meaning they'll be able to better adapt the story around the fan response. The War Within also bumps the difficulty up to Level 80 and introduces a new mechanic called Hero Talents, which lets players further customize their characters. It's also bringing a new mini-dungeon feature called Delves and adding Warbands which is a new way to earn account-wide progression, a welcome addition for players with several alts.

Baldur's Gate 3 Star Neil Newbon Hopes to Play Astarion Again https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/bg3-baldurs-gate-3-astarion-neil-newbon-return/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 21:44:00 +0000 Logan Moore 072c8144-f1f6-4f2b-9e23-fd1037bc3916

Neil Newbon, the actor behind Astarion in Baldur's Gate 3, has said that he still hopes to portray the character again in the future. Since its launch this past year, Newbon has been receiving tons of acclaim for his work in bringing Astarion to life. Not only is Astarion himself arguably the most popular character in BG3, but Newbon went on to win the award for "Best Performance" at The Game Awards to close 2023. Following this huge wave of success, Newbon is now making it known that he's very much down to continue playing Astarion in different forms of media.

Speaking to IGN, Newbon said opened up about Astarion and how he feels about a potential return to the role. Newbon said that typically, he's quite content with moving on from one part to another in his career as a voice actor. With Astarion, though, he said that he doesn't feel this way as the character "is still very much alive" within him. Newbon acknowledged that it's not his call to bring back Astarion in a new story, but if he were asked to reprise the role, he'd almost certainly do it.

"Most characters, once I've finished with the work, especially on long jobs, and this was a particularly long job, I usually have a compartmentalization and it's like, 'Great, that's done.' I'm happy moving forward to the next role," Newbon said. "With Astarion, his rhythm is still very much alive inside me somewhere and I feel I'm not done with him. But you know, it's not my call. Hopefully, at some point, I get to reprise him. I'd love to do that, but we'll have to wait and see."

If Newbon does end up playing Astarion again, it seemingly won't be as part of Baldur's Gate 3. Within the past month, developer Larian Studios announced that it's not working on any new expansions or DLC for BG3. Beyond this, the studio also said that its next game won't be Baldur's Gate 4, despite the requests from fans.

Fortunately, Baldur's Gate 3 is based set within the expansive world of Dungeons & Dragons, which is owned by Wizards of the Coast. As such, Larian isn't the sole company involved with ensuring that Newbon could reprise Astarion. If Wizards of the Coast happened to create a Dungeons & Dragons video game, movie, or TV series that would feature the character, then Newbon could always return to voice Astarion in that manner. For the time being, though, there is no such confirmation that Astarion will be back in other D&D media just yet.

Nintendo Skipping Gamescom 2024, Leading to Questions About Switch 2 Reveal https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/nintendo-switch-2-questions-gamescom-2024/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 20:53:00 +0000 Marc Deschamps fd2ddd4d-ab5a-4dbc-bd44-80974fba2afb

Last year, Nintendo attended Gamescom 2023, where the company reportedly had something major to show attendees behind closed doors. While never officially confirmed, it seems this is the first place that select members of the gaming press were given a chance to see the successor to Nintendo Switch, which was apparently running a more impressive version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. While Nintendo has been extremely quiet about its plans for the rest of the year, it seems Gamescom won't be a part of them. Nintendo confirmed its absence in a statement provided to Games Wirtschaft (translated by Nintendo Life).

"Gamescom is a central event for Nintendo in the event calendar. However, this year, after careful consideration, we have decided against participating in Cologne. Players can try out the games for Nintendo Switch instead as part of other Germany-wide events," the statement reads.

What Nintendo Has Announced for 2024

Naturally, Nintendo's Gamescom absence has raised a lot of questions about its plans for the rest of this year! The company has just three announced first-party games for the rest of 2024: Endless Ocean Luminous, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, and Luigi's Mansion 2 HD; all of those games will be released between the beginning of May and the end of June. Nintendo's next console was rumored to release in the second half of 2024, but was apparently pushed back to early 2025. If that is the case, we have no idea what else to expect from Nintendo to fill the gap in the holiday season, or just when Nintendo will publicly reveal its new system.

Nintendo's Plans for 2024 and 2025

It's not unusual for Nintendo to keep quiet about upcoming games. Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Super Mario RPG were two of the company's biggest releases of 2023, and both games weren't announced until June, with releases in October and November, respectively. Given that, it's very possible Nintendo is sitting on some Switch game announcements that will be made in the next couple of months, with a full reveal for the so-called "Switch 2" to follow. June and September have both traditionally seen Nintendo Direct presentations held, so it wouldn't be surprising if we saw the same this year.

It's possible Nintendo could close out 2024 with the long-delayed Metroid Prime 4, as well as some highly-requested remasters like Zelda: The Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD. Then perhaps Pokemon Legends Z-A in early 2025 just before a Switch 2 launch in March. All of this is just speculation, but it would make sense, and help fill out the schedule as developers like Nintendo EPD and Next Level Games focus on titles for the new system, like a new 3D Mario and a follow-up to Luigi's Mansion 3.

PS5 Pro Codename, New Details Revealed in Latest Report https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/playstation-ps5-pro-trinity-report/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 20:51:00 +0000 Logan Moore c35deaec-35dc-4de5-9d85-361542ad8ddf

New information tied to Sony's upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro console, including its codename, has been shared in a recent report. At the time of this writing, Sony itself hasn't even confirmed that it's working on a PS5 Pro. Despite this, rumors and reports have claimed for a year or more that the updated version of the PS5 is slated to roll out later in 2024. Now, ahead of that eventual arrival, we have a bit more to go off of when it comes to what the hardware will do.

Shared by The Verge, the publication reports that it has recently seen private documentation that verifies the existence of the PS5 Pro. Beyond this simple confirmation, the article goes on to state that Sony is internally referring to the PS5 Pro as "Trinity," which also backs up previous claims. As for its internals, Sony is said to be including a more powerful GPU to go along with an improved CPU in the console. These upgraded aspects of the console will better allow the PS5 Pro to take advantage of ray tracing in various games without having to diminish the performance.

At this point in time, Sony is said to be "encouraging" various developers around the globe to begin optimizing their existing games for the PS5 Pro. To that end, Sony is beginning to send test kits to studios so that they can begin testing the hardware for themselves. Games that are then sent in for certification to Sony by August are said to be compatible with the PS5 Pro when it launches later in 2024.

Speaking of release, a specific date for the PS5 Pro still isn't known. Broadly, it's reported that Sony is planning to let loose its upgraded PS5 in the forthcoming holiday season. As for its price, it's expected that the console will retail for more than the PS5's current cost of $499.99. There's always the chance that Sony could choose to lower the standard version of the PS5 though whenever the PS5 Pro releases. To this point in the generation, the PS5 hasn't seen a price cut, so it could be time for one to happen.

Keanu Reeves Will Play Shadow in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/keanu-reeves-shadow-sonic-the-hedgehog-3-paramount/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 20:47:00 +0000 Marc Deschamps df14db90-d600-43a0-ad6f-d8aee59fd52a

According to The Hollywood Reporter, actor Keanu Reeves will be appearing in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The John Wick star will be taking on the role of Shadow, ending months of rumors and questions. Many fans believed that actor Hayden Christensen would play the role, but that was recently debunked by YouTuber John Campea. Now we have official word who will be voicing the iconic character, and it should make a lot of Sega fans very happy! Shadow has been a fan favorite since his debut back in 2001, and many fans were excited when the character showed up at the end of Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

Unfortunately, Shadow's appearance in that movie was a brief stinger, and the character did not speak any lines. Instead, the character appeared in a glass tube, which is a reference to the fact that Shadow is a genetically-engineered construct in the video games. That stinger seemed to imply that the Paramount film will follow Shadow's story closely from Sonic Adventure 2 on Dreamcast, where Shadow first made his debut.

At this time, little else is known about what role Shadow will play. The character started as an antagonist, but later became more of an anti-hero. He and Sonic have worked together, but Shadow is hardly a friend; Sonic would probably be happy to have Shadow as a pal alongside Tails, Knuckles, and Amy, but Shadow is more of a cranky loner. Reeves should be able to nail that dynamic quite well!

The Year of Shadow

At the end of Sonic Adventure 2, Shadow seemingly died fighting alongside Sonic, but the character proved too popular for Sega to leave behind; Shadow returned just two years later in the game Sonic Heroes. Since then, the character has been a recurring character in the franchise, appearing in his own spin-off game in 2005, and on shows like Sonic Prime. This year, Sega will be celebrating the character all year long with the "Year of Shadow." Part of that celebration will include the release of Sonic x Shadow Generations, an enhanced remaster that will include new sections focused on Shadow. At this time, the game does not have a set release date, but it is expected this fall on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Cast and Release Date

At this time, information about Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is fairly limited. In addition to Keanu Reeves, the cast will include Ben Schwartz (Sonic), Colleen O'Shaughnessey (Tails), Idris Elba (Knuckles), James Marsden (Tom Wachowski), Tika Sumpter (Maddie Wachowski), and Lee Majdoub (Agent Stone). While there had been some speculation about his retirement, Sonic 3 will also see the return of Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik. The movie will release in theaters on December 20th.

Fallout 4 Achievements Currently Broken on Xbox Platforms https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/fallout-4-achievements-broken-on-xbox/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 20:39:00 +0000 Ricky Frech 5648e4be-b3dd-4ad8-87ca-f287b2342cdb

With the recent success of the Fallout TV series, it's no surprise to see that players are flocking to the video games in droves. Over the weekend, nearly every game in Bethesda's franchise has seen a massive uptick in players across the board, and that number might go even higher when the developers drop the next-gen patch for Fallout 4 later this month. However, the increased player count has also led to players noticing a major issue that's been hampering the Xbox version of Fallout 4. While this bug has been affecting players for a few weeks now, it's cropped up again and is keeping players from earning achievements on Xbox.

Xbox Players Can't Earn Achievements in Fallout 4

fallout-4.jpg

The bug was first spotted by the team at TrueAchievements.com. They noted that players on Xbox haven't earned new Fallout 4 achievements on Xbox "since the end of March." It's important to note that the issue doesn't appear to be happening on any other platform and is seemingly unrelated to the upcoming next-gen patch. Remember, there isn't a native Xbox Series X/S version, so if you're playing on Microsoft's next-gen console, you're playing the Xbox One version. It's possible the new patch could fix the issue, but that's only a guess.

Interestingly, it doesn't seem like the Xbox One version of Fallout 4 has received an update that would cause achievements to break, so it's hard to say exactly what's going on. Bethesda has noted in an official post on its support forums that it's aware of the issue and is "currently investigating." As mentioned, the team may be waiting for the next-gen patch to update Fallout 4 on Xbox and get achievements working again. Either way, if you're having trouble, it looks like your only course of action is to wait for Bethesda to fix the issue.

Fallout 4 Next-Gen Update Release Date

The next-gen update for Fallout 4 is scheduled to release on April 25th. The team wasn't quite able to line it up with the release of the hit TV show, but it's close enough that there will still be plenty of players ready to hop. Fortunately, the next-gen patch also adds new content to the game in the form of a new quest centered around The Enclave. The government organization wasn't heavily involved in Fallout 4 but did play a major role in Fallout 2 and Fallout 3.

On top of the new Enclave-related content, players will have access to several pieces of content from the Creation Club including a Tesla Cannon, Hellfire Power Armor, and the Makeshift Weapon Pack. The latter lets you take out foes with a Piggy Bank, which should be a blast. There's also the Halloween Workshop pack, which adds a few Halloween-themed decorations to your settlements.

New Demon Slayer Game Potentially Leaked https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/demon-slayer-new-game-leak/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 20:30:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer a9e0fc4a-3c2d-4bde-a199-d34ec64a43d2

A new Demon Slayer game has potentially leaked from an insider who has recently and historically been quite reliable. Unfortunately, details on the project are scarce and there is no accompanying media. The leak specifically comes the way of Midori over on X, a source usually known for Sega leaks, especially as they pertain to Atlus and the Persona series.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Midori relayed word that a sequel to Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles is in the works. No platforms are mentioned, but it's safe to assume PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S are going to be the platforms at minimum. The previous game also came to PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, but this was in 2019. As a result, it is not as safe to assume these platforms are in the plan as they will be all quite dated by the time this game comes, whenever it comes out.

As for Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles, for those unfamiliar, it is a fighting game meets action-adventure game released by Sega and CyberConnect2 back in 2019. As of March this year, it has sold 3.5 million copies, which is no doubt why it is getting a sequel. Meanwhile, its critical reception was all over the place, with scores ranging from 69 to 82, depending on the platform.

"Become the blade that destroys demons," reads an official blurb about the first game. "Relive memorable moments from the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba anime through the eyes of its protagonist, Tanjiro Kamado! Follow the story from Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc-where Tanjiro joins the Demon Slayer Corps- to Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train featuring the Flame Hashira, Kyojuro Rengoku! Face off against demons from the anime series with stunning graphical effects faithfully recreating iconic battle techniques in full 3D! Choose from a cast of 24 fighters, including not only protagonists like Tanjiro Kamado and Nezuko Kamado, but demons like Rui (Lower Five of the Twelve Kizuki) and Akaza (Upper Three of the Twelve Kizuki). Pit your favorite characters against each other and enjoy never-before-seen matchups!"

As always, take this leak with a grain of salt. While the source in question has proven reliable in the past it doesn't change the fact this isn't official information. Further, even if this information is accurate, it doesn't mean it will remain accurate over time as everything is subject to change.

Every Fallout Game Is On Sale in a Single Bundle For Under $25 https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/fallout-games-buy-sale-steam/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 19:38:00 +0000 Logan Moore 83ebc106-24f8-4180-a738-8367d746a72a

If you find yourself looking to play some Fallout games in the wake of Prime Video's TV series based on the franchise releasing, a new, cheap bundle might be exactly what you're looking for. Over this past weekend, a massive rise was seen in player counts for a litany of different Fallout entries. Now, those player totals might end up shooting even higher thanks to a phenomenal sale associated with the property.

Over on Fanatical, a new collection containing every mainline game in the Fallout series has been offered up at a staggering discount of 82%. Normally, this package would retail for $139.95 but its price has now been slashed all the way down to $24.99 for the remainder of the month. The only caveat with this deal is that the games included are only available on PC, which means that those on Xbox and PlayStation consoles can't take advantage of the offer. Still, this sale happens to be even better than the one that Steam itself is offering on its own platform.

Here's everything that's included in this Fallout bundle on Fanatical:

  • Fallout
  • Fallout 2
  • Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel
  • Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition
  • Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition
  • Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition
  • Fallout 76
See Fallout Bundle on Fanatical

Perhaps the best part of this deal is that it includes the expanded versions of Fallout 3, Fallout 4, and Fallout: New Vegas. This means that all accompanying post-launch DLC for each entry is folded in as part of the offer. As for the only Fallout games that aren't included in this collection, they happen to be Fallout Shelter, Fallout 4 VR, and Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel. That being said, Fallout Shelter is already free to download as it is and Brotherhood of Steel has never released on platforms other than PS2 and Xbox in the first place.

Are you going to look to buy this Fallout bundle on Fanatical while it's still live? And if so, which Fallout entry do you see yourself playing first out of the seven that are included in the collection? Be sure to let me know either down in the comments section or reach out to me on social media at @MooreMan12.

Pokemon Go Reveals Changes to Avatars, Map, Photos, and More https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/pokemon-go-changes-avatars-map-photos/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 19:05:00 +0000 Marc Deschamps 7a045928-ab89-4260-bb20-cdedd288b090

Pokemon Go has announced a number of major changes that will soon be rolling out to all players. Last week, Niantic released a short teaser video for the Rediscover Go campaign, and today saw the release of a more fleshed out trailer. The game's avatars and overall presentation are getting overhauled, and the new trailer gives fans a closer glimpse at what's to come. We don't know when these changes will go live, but Niantic says that they've started to be rolled out globally, so it's just a matter of time before all fans see them reflected.

The trailer for the new Rediscover Go campaign can be found below.

What Changes Can Players Expect in Pokemon Go?

While avatars are already looking a bit more detailed than before, Niantic is teasing changes to the game's style shop, which promises it will allow players to "express yourself with more customization options than ever before." The game's map changes will be more reflective of the real world as well, with players seeing things like beaches, mountains, forests, and cities. This won't just be on the overworld, either; Niantic claims players can expect it in battle and encounter screens, as well. Last but not least, the game's photo mode is getting changed up, allowing players to have up to three Pokemon in the same photo. We don't know exactly how that will work, but if it means having Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle all in one shot, it could be a lot of fun!

Rediscovering Pokemon Go

From the name, it's clear that the spirit of this campaign is to channel some of the energy that surrounded Pokemon Go when it first launched back in the summer of 2016. Hard as it might be to believe, it's been nearly 8 years since the game debuted, and Pokemon Go continues to find a lot of success on a global level. When the coronavirus pandemic first began, Niantic made a lot of changes to encourage people to continue playing even when they couldn't be together locally. The last two years have seen several of those changes rolled back, or more restricted, as Niantic wants people playing and interacting in the real world.

The trailer for Rediscover Go shows that theme in full force, with players meeting up to play the game on beaches, in forests, and just about everywhere. It remains to be seen whether these changes to the game's presentation will get lapsed players back, or get them out enjoying the game together as Niantic wants them to. However, on the surface, it at least seems to be better handled than changing things like the price of Remote Raid tickets, or the spin distance on PokeStops!

Are you excited about these new updates coming to Pokemon Go? Do you still enjoy playing the game outdoors with friends? Share your thoughts with me directly on Twitter at @Marcdachamp or on Instagram at @Dachampgaming!

One Piece Odyssey Coming to Nintendo Switch This Summer https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/one-piece-odyssey-nintendo-switch-release-date/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 18:57:00 +0000 Ricky Frech e1320cbc-739b-4df4-bc40-2d8a699aa7bd

One Piece Odyssey launched last year to solid reviews on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms. In ComicBook's review, we called it "the best One Piece game yet" and said it "has a lot of fun things for fans of the series to dig into." However, Odyssey never came to the Nintendo Switch, which is somewhat of a surprise given how popular that platform has become. Thankfully, publisher Bandai Namco announced today that it'll be rectifying that relatively soon. In a brand-new trailer for One Piece Odyssey, the team announced that the RPG is coming to the Switch later this year.

One Piece Odyssey Nintendo Switch Release Date

The Nintendo Switch release is being treated as a Deluxe Edition by Bandai Namco. The package is set to launch on July 26th, filling that late summer window for the publisher. With this release, the team is adding the Reunion of Memories Additional Scenario that players can hop into once they wrap up the main campaign.

On top of the new scenario, players will also get access to new, Switch-exclusive City of Water outfits. The previously released traveling outfits for the Straw Hats Crew and the Sniper King's traveling outfit will also be included, giving players plenty of options for outfitting their crew. If you're a One Piece fan who's been waiting to check out Odyssey, this might be the package you've been waiting for.

What is One Piece Odyssey?

As mentioned, One Piece Odyssey is a turn-based RPG where players control Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates. Each character in the crew has their unique ability which can be used for traversal, puzzle-solving, and more. Of course, there are plenty of new characters and monsters to meet, all designed by Eiichiro Oda. The completely original story gives new material for even the most diehard fans of the franchise to dig into.

Combat in Odyssey puts players into several different areas, which they'll need to control by properly placing party members to counter opponents. Sometimes, these battles are randomized by the "Dramatic Scene" mechanic which puts characters in specific situations as a reference to their personality. For example, Sanji might be surrounded by female fighters, testing his resolve to never hit women. Getting around those character quirks while in battle can prove challenging, but it's generally a fun task that keeps the game in line with the series' long cannon.

One Piece Odyssey is available now on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The Bandai Namco RPG launches on July 26th on the Nintendo Switch.

Rocket League Is Making Changes, And Some Players Aren't Happy https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/rocket-league-rl-items/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 18:51:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer 45e20724-7186-49bb-8ed3-7a853ff1bde6

Rocket League is making some changes with a new update coming tomorrow, and many players aren't too happy about some of the changes, even if they are minor and don't markedly have any impact on the game. Rocket League has been out for almost nine years, which means it's a challenge for Psyonix and Epic Games to keep things fresh. Whether the new changes are inspired by an attempt to freshen up the game, which hasn't changed much since its release, we don't know.

Taking to social media platform, X, the game's official account relayed word it is changing the rarities of items. Going forward, common items will be change to base items, uncommon items will change to sport items, rare items will change to special items, very rare items will change to deluxe items, and limited items will change to luxury items. Again, why any of these changes are being made, we don't know, but it is proving to be an unpopular decision by Psyonix.

All of this comes alongside a change to nameplates as well, though unlike the changes to the item names, the nameplate changes have received a much more positive reception. More specifically, nameplates will now have a boost indication so you can see how much boost they have at any given point. This is also means when you make a mistake, you can no longer blame it on boost.

With the reaction the item name changes are getting, it is possible Psyonix will backtrack on this change, but it's unlikely. So far, Psyonix has not said a peep about the criticism it has received over the decision. If this changes, we will be sure to update the story accordingly.

For more Rocket League coverage -- including all of the latest Rocket League news, all of the latest Rocket League rumors and leaks, and all of the latest Rocket League deals -- click here. Meanwhile, and as always, feel free to leave a comment or two letting us know what you think. What do you think of these changes? Are Rocket League players overeacting or should Psyonix reverse course on this decision?

Pokemon Leak Finds New Evidence of Missing Pokemon From Sun and Moon https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/pokemon-sun-and-moon-3ds-celesteela/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 17:13:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer 8c357266-b56d-49a5-a25f-69424e6b301e

A Pokemon dataminer has discovered new evidence of a missing Pokemon from Pokemon Sun and Moon that was supposed to be in the pair of 3DS games but was scrapped during development for some reason. It has been eight years since Pokemon Sun and Moon were released by Game Freak and Nintendo. That said, they have not been forgotten. And like any Pokemon game, Sun and Moon introduced plenty of new Pokemon for players to catch, battle, and cherish. One of the Pokemon it introduced, for example, is the very adorable Celesteela. As you may know, Celesteela doesn't evolve or have any other forms, but this wasn't always the case.

Between the anime and previous leaks, we more or less already knew about this, but new evidence of another form of Celesteela has been discovered. The leak was found by X user ElChicoEevee, who found two different cries for Celesteela while digging through the files of Pokemon Home. Interestingly, one is labelled as Form 01 as a Bulbasaur cry. There are also apparently references to this other form in the files of Pokemon Rumble Rush, the 2019 mobile game.

It is possible this work will be salvaged in a future game, as we know Game Freak is fond of revisiting Pokemon and giving them various forms and new evolutions as time passes. Until then, Pokemon fans will simply have to imagine what this other form of the humanoid Ultra Beast would have been like. In the meantime, take this all with a grain of salt. This is a leak, not official information from the mouth of Game Freak or Nintendo. Neither has ever commented on the Celesteela scuttlebutt, and we don't expect that to change now, but if it does, we will be sure to update the story accordingly.

Invincible AAA Video Game in Development at Skybound https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/invincible-video-game-aaa-skybound-crowdfund/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 16:54:00 +0000 Logan Moore a7fc9513-832f-4f40-99f8-d3feab9136e2

Skybound Entertainment has announced that it's in the process of developing a AAA video game based on Invincible. As Invincible has become more popular over the past few years, primarily thanks to its TV adaptation on Prime Video, calls for a AAA game tied to the series have continued to grow louder. Now, Skybound has announced that it's internally working on such a project and has launched a crowdfunding campaign to assist with its creation.

Over on Republic, Skybound today launched its new fundraising campaign that will run through the end of April. Previously, Skybound says that it raised $18M in funds, with the company now looking to raise an additional maximum of $5M. Currently, this crowdfunding round has seen nearly $450,000 brought in, which has already cleared the minimum goal that Skybound had of $50,000.

As for the Invincible game itself, Skybound says that it is working on the game internally and has currently put together a team of roughly 30 developers who have previous experience at Epic Games, Activision, and Electronic Arts, to name a few. Further details on the nature of this project haven't been provided, but Skybound says that it plans to support the game for the long haul with new expansions after launch. As for its genre, this also hasn't been shared just yet, but Skybound indicates that the title will contain "competitive and local play modes."

invincible.jpg
(Photo: Amazon)

"Invincible is under development with a team of veteran developers with decades-long careers and multiple AAA games to their credit," says Skybound's description of the project. "With cutting-edge competitive gameplay, premium production values, and the most advanced online and technical foundations, Invincible will release under a premium model with multiple DLC expansions and special editions designed to cater to every level of fandom. In both competitive and local play modes, the game is designed to contribute new stories to the Invincible multiverse, enabling future releases, expansions, new character arcs and adventures for years to come."

"By developing this game in-house, under complete control of our team of franchise stakeholders and Invincible IP creator Robert Kirkman himself, we are creating a highly coveted game that is guaranteed to have fans of the comic, the global hit TV show, and serious gamers alike, wholly captivated by this first-of-its-kind Invincible experience."

Given that this Invincible game is still in the crowdfunding phase, it seems as though it won't be released for many more years. In all likelihood, Skybound is generating funds in the first place so it can continue building out the team that will then develop the project. As a result, don't expect any proper announcements or trailers for this Invincible title for quite a bit longer. Whenever it does launch, though, it has been indicated that it should come to all consoles and PC.

Until that time, Skybound has been slowly expanding Invincible's presence in the video game space within the past year. This has included Invincible: Guarding the Globe, which is a mobile RPG created in tandem with Ubisoft. Invincible Presents: Atom Eve also happened to release on Steam near the end of 2023 and is a visual novel that centers around the titular character Atom Eve.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Leak Points to Imminent Release Date https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/hollow-knight-silksong-release-date-leak/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 15:57:00 +0000 Logan Moore eeee9c82-fa5a-4b82-9549-d191d6aa9932

A new leak associated with Hollow Knight: Silksong has again indicated that the long-awaited indie game is drawing very close to its release. At the start of this month, it was discovered that Silksong had finally received an official game rating in South Korea, which came in tandem with the game being briefly listed on the Xbox digital storefront. Both of these moves often come about very late in the development process, meaning that the launch of Silksong seemed to be close. And while developer Team Cherry has yet to say anything official on the game's arrival, a new move has yet again teased that a release date could be right around the corner.

As of today, it was found that Hollow Knight: Silksong has also been rated in Australia. Based on information from the region's classification website, Silksong was rated at the start of April 2024 and was given a "PG" designation for mild violence. Other than this, further details on when Silksong might be releasing weren't provided on the webpage, but it's yet another move that proves Team Cherry is in the final phase of the project's development.

To stress why this is such a big deal, Hollow Knight: Silksong is likely one of the most highly anticipated video games set to release in the coming years. Initially, Silksong was revealed all the way back in February 2019 and was planned to merely be DLC for the original Hollow Knight. Since then, the scope and scale of Silksong has greatly blown up to where it is now a full-fledged sequel. Given it's been over five years since its first reveal, anticipation has continued to grow as the years have passed to a degree that is rarely ever seen.

Regardless of when Hollow Knight: Silksong releases, it's known that the game will be coming to just about every platform imaginable. This includes PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Additionally, Microsoft has previously announced that Silksong will join Xbox Game Pass as a day-one addition to the service whenever it does launch.

MLB The Show 24 Update #5 Released With Patch Notes https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/mlb-24-the-show-update-patch-notes/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 15:33:00 +0000 Logan Moore 0ea5fae4-85c3-467a-8f72-b3c6be8337f9

Update #5 for MLB The Show 24 has today gone live across PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch platforms. Since launching roughly one month ago, developer San Diego Studio has continued to push out new patches for MLB The Show 24 on a routine basis to resolve various bugs and make minor balance changes. Now, this trend has continued once again today, although the latest patch that has been let loose is definitely one of the smallest so far.

Available to download right now, Update #5 for MLB The Show 24 is primarily aimed at fixing a couple of key problems that have recently arisen. Rather than being tied to any specific game mode, these annoyances are instead tied to certain activities that include Showdown and Challenge of the Week. Along with fixing some nondescript bugs, San Diego Studio has also made some visual adjustments to Road to the Show and Storylines which will alter the presentation tied to each.

You can view the full patch notes for update #5 in MLB The Show 24 right here:

MISCELLANEOUS

  • Added missing UI elements to the Showdown defeat screen.
  • Various minor bug fixes in the Challenge of the Week mode.
  • Various presentation tweaks and adjustments made to Road to the Show and Storylines.
  • Postseason patches will now display on hats when a team is in the playoffs in Franchise mode.

DEVELOPER NOTES

  • There are no gameplay or live content balance changes in this update.

At this point in time, MLB The Show 24 is still in the midst of its first season of content. To that end, a rather substantial wave of new programs and experiences were added to the game this past week, particularly for Diamond Dynasty players. Not only did San Diego Studio add a pair of new Conquest maps to complete, but the Chapter 2 Team Affinity program was finally released, which added an array of new Diamond tier players to grind and unlock. Over the course of the next month and a half, more content of this type will continue to be added to MLB The Show 24 before the arrival of Season 2 in early June.

Star Wars Outlaws Locks Jabba the Hunt Mission Behind $110 Version of the Game https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/star-wars-outlaws-jabba-the-hunt-mission-110-version/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 15:28:00 +0000 Marc Deschamps 01db9635-5b7c-4124-8f84-a145d3208897

When Star Wars Outlaws releases this summer, the game will feature several iconic characters like Jabba the Hutt. We've known for almost a year now that players will be able to take on jobs for the intergalactic gangster, but the game's official website has revealed that the option won't be available to all players. It seems that "Jabba's Gambit" will be an "exclusive mission available at launch" for those that buy the game's Gold Edition or the Ultimate Edition. Those versions cost $109.99 and $129.99 respectively, versus the Standard Edition price of $69.99.

We don't know if Jabba's Gambit will be fully exclusive for those buyers, or if it's a timed exclusive that will be available for purchase separately in the future. One of the coolest things about Star Wars Outlaws is the fact that its setting allows players to interact with fan favorite characters like Jabba and Qi'ra. Locking some of the content related to one of those characters behind a paywall is sure to frustrate some Star Wars fans! Over the last few years, there's been a lot of controversy surrounding $70 games, with many consumers feeling like the price is unjustified. Making people spend even more on top of that price is not going to win over anyone on the fence, and there are already some warning signs about the game.

Star Wars Outlaws Frustrations

News about the exclusive Jabba content is just the latest frustration associated with Star Wars Outlaws. Last week, it was revealed that physical copies of the game will require an internet connection to install. Fans blasted the decision by Ubisoft not to include a playable build on the physical disc, as not everyone has reliable internet or unlimited data. Some also pointed to recent comments from Ubisoft's Philippe Tremblay, who told GamesIndustry.biz in February that people need to get "comfortable with not owning" their games.

Star Wars Outlaws Release Date and Platforms

Star Wars Outlaws is slated to release August 30th on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, but those who purchase the Gold and Ultimate Editions will get access three days early. It will be interesting to see if these issues will hurt the game's sales, or if the final product will be able to win fans over. It's possible the game could end up being enjoyable in spite of these issues, but at the very least it could convince some people to wait for the kind of price drops that a lot of Ubisoft games get shortly after launch. The reality is, Star Wars fans have no shortage of media to consume in the meantime. Anyone hungry for material that takes place between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi can always read the current Marvel Star Wars comics instead.

Fortnite Teases a Bunch of New Star Wars Content Coming in May https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/fortnite-teaser-star-wars-content-coming-may-fourth/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 14:42:00 +0000 Marc Deschamps d1757eb7-fe29-4e44-a09c-f775a908afa2

Star Wars Day is coming up next month, and Epic Games is planning to celebrate in a big way with Fortnite. This morning, the game's official Twitter account released a brief teaser video revealing that new content is on the way to Fortnite, LEGO Fortnite, and Fortnite Festival. Nothing specific has been revealed at this time, but the content will arrive one day ahead of Star Wars Day, releasing on May 3rd. According to reliable Fortnite leaker Hypex, the new content will include the previously leaked Chewbacca's Bowcaster, and we could see skins for Chewie as well as "Rebel Leia." Force abilities and Lightsabers are both expected to return as part of the celebration.

What to Expect in Fortnite Festival

Hypex also claims that Fortnite Festival will be getting the "Cantina Band" track from A New Hope. In-universe, that track was performed by Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes, but players will be able to jam out to the familiar tune for themselves. Hypex does not list any other Star Wars song possibilities, so it will be interesting to see if that's the only track that gets added. There's no shortage of iconic songs that could be brought over, including favorites like Duel of the Fates. Hopefully we'll see a few tracks make the cut, and hopefully we'll see guitar controller support added in time for the Star Wars Day celebration.

As with any leaks, readers should take all of this with a grain of salt. Hypex is one of the most reliable Fortnite leakers out there, but plans for the game are constantly changing, and fans might want to hold off on getting too excited until we hear something concrete from Epic Games. With Star Wars Day just a few weeks away, we should learn a lot more details in the near future!

Fortnite and Star Wars

At this time, we don't know if this year's Star Wars Day celebration will be bringing back any previously released skins based on the franchise. Over the years, Fortnite has seen a lot of content based on Star Wars, including skins based on Luke, Han, Leia, Din Djarin, and more. Star Wars Day would be the perfect opportunity to bring that content back and make it available to anyone that might have missed out previously.

While Fortnite has a long history with the Star Wars franchise, it seems like a safe bet we'll see a lot more content in the future. Earlier this year, Disney revealed that it purchased a stake in Epic Games for $1.5 billion. That will assuredly lead to a lot more content based on Disney properties, most notably Star Wars and Marvel. Unfortunately, details are very slim about the plans Disney and Epic Games have in store.

Are you excited about the new Star Wars content coming to Fortnite? What are you hoping to see added? Share your thoughts with me directly on Twitter at @Marcdachamp or on Instagram at @Dachampgaming!

Critical Role Shows Off Its Fashion Sense With New Creators in Fashion Show https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/critical-role-creators-in-fashion-show/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 14:00:00 +0000 Christian Hoffer 86b09e11-7408-484e-a5a4-a14964da32af

Later this month, Critical Role will expand into new (but somewhat familiar) territory - the world of fashion. The web series will be participating in Creators in Fashion, a new fashion show that will be streamed live on the Style Theory YouTube channel. Critical Role will be one of several digital channels/creators to debut fashion collections, along with ZHC, YesTheory, Blogilates, POPFLEX, and Seek Discomfort. According to a press release, Creators in Fashion will feature runway walks, interviews, backstage glimpses, and "and exclusive surprises that embrace the future of fashion." The show will air on April 25th, with a pre-show starting at 2:30 PM PT and the main event kicking off at 3 PM PT.

While at first glance, Critical Role seems like an odd fit for the Creators in Fashion, the series has long had a robust lineup of merchandise. "It's funny - the very first thing that we created, we made a T-shirt and we made 100 of them and didn't think anybody would buy it," said Critical Role cast member Laura Bailey in an interview with ComicBook.com's The Character Sheet. "That was when we weren't even sure if anyone was going to be watching the show or anything. That sold very quickly and it made me realize, oh, maybe we can make clothes."

Bailey noted that Critical Role's original merchandise ethos was making clothes and items that the cast and their friends would want to wear. When the show started on Geek & Sundry, it featured the usual graphic tees, pins, and posters sold by many online companies. But as Critical Role's audience grew, so did the merchandise, with the company choosing to expand not only into gaming accessories like dice and dice bags but also bolder fashion choices like kimonos, cloaks, and tweed jackets, all of which reflect some aspect of either the world of Critical Role or its characters.

Several of those pieces will be featured in Creators in Fashion, along with one new piece that Bailey is particularly excited about. One benefit to the Creators in Fashion show is that it allows Critical Role to show off their merchandise line in a "cohesive" way, as Critical Role's store often spaces out their releases over time.

Several Critical Role cast members will be involved in the actual Creators in Fashion show - Taliesin Jaffe and a "surprise guest" will be walking on the runway and Bailey will be doing interviews at the show. Additionally, several Critical Role employees will also be walking the runway, giving fans a chance to see some of the folks who work behind the scenes to make the series happen.

When asked about possible future merchandise choices that Critical Role could pursue, Bailey pointed to an obvious fashion choice. "I want to do shoes," Bailey said. "I think with shoes we can get away with doing some really bold, fun, funky things because a lot of people show fun personality on their feet." Bailey mentioned collaborating with a current brand, such as Converse (which just launched a Dungeons & Dragons line) or Vans. "I own a lot of Vans," Bailey added.

Additionally, Critical Role also plans to continue growing its line of character-focused clothing pieces. "We have some really fun stuff coming up later this year that I'm super stoked about because as we're creating these modern lines for our characters," Bailey said. "It's so fun to go down the line and see what would Vex wear? What would Scanlan wear? What would he promote if he were here. So we have some really fun things like that."

You can check out Critical Role as they participate in Creators in Fashion on April 25th. The show will be streamed on the Style Theory YouTube channel.

Palworld's Latest Update Fixes an Annoying Bug on Steam and Xbox, Patch Notes Released https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/palworld-new-update-xbox-steam-patch-notes/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 12:59:00 +0000 Marc Deschamps c70eb3bc-90b4-4c3f-a5cb-d1947dc89009

A new update was released for Palworld this morning, bringing the game up to version 0.2.2.0. While the Steam version was made available first, the update has since been released on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, as well. Players should not expect to see anything too substantial from this one, as it's mostly focused on bug fixes. However, there is one pretty notable change, as it seems Pals were only doing half the amount of damage they were supposed to be! Full patch notes from the game's official Twitter account can be found below:

Major Fixes

  • Corrected an issue that caused all Pal attacks to deal only half the intended damage.

Other Fixes

  • Corrected the hit detection in the latter parts of the "Nightmare Ray" and "Nightmare Bloom" attacks.
  • Reduced the jittering of sleeping Pals on Pal beds.
  • You can now close the character editing screen of the antique dresser using the ESC key.
  • Corrected other minor bugs.

Palworld Changes Fans Want to See

Hopefully these changes will lead to an overall better experience. Judging from the reactions to the Twitter post, it seems that a lot of players have already noticed the change to Pal attacks. That bug was making it a lot harder and more time consuming for players, but thankfully things have been resolved.

As is often the case with updates like this, Palworld's Twitter post has resulted in players listing a number of other issues they're hoping to see resolved and features they'd like added. Notably, fans have been asking about the possibility of cross-play between the PC and console versions. Many Xbox players have also been frustrated by a bug that causes the player to crash through the map. Unfortunately, there's been no word from Pocketpair when that issue will get resolved, but hopefully it can get fixed quickly!

Will Palworld be on PS5?

In addition to these requests, several fans asked Pocketpair about a potential PS5 version of Palworld. Nothing has been announced as of this writing, but Pocketpair CEO Takuro Mizobe told Bloomberg last month that the studio has been discussing the possibility of bringing Palworld to other platforms. In that interview, Mizobe did not cite specific platforms, but it's safe to presume this this would mean PS5. Of course, a version for Nintendo's Switch successor is also a possibility, or versions for mobile considering that there have been Palworld knock-offs released on iOS and Android.

Unfortunately, we just don't know where Palworld will head next! The game's massive level of success makes it seem all but inevitable that we'll see other versions, but readers should keep in mind that Pocketpair is a pretty small studio, so it could take a while. For now, anyone interested in playing the survival game will have to do so on Steam or Xbox!

Steam Most Wishlisted Game Tops Hades II and Hollow Knight Ahead of Release This Month https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/steam-games-most-wishlisted-manor-lords/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 12:29:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer 00488666-c661-4510-9273-1260a4895001

The most wishlisted game on Steam clearly has caught the attention of many on the Valve platform, yet it appears to be still flying under the radar of many. Right now, the game in question is holding down the top spot on the Wishlist chart, beating out Hades II, Black Myth: Wukong, Hollow Knight: Silksong, and more in the process. This is an impressive feat for a game from that a studio set to make its debut with its release.

If you haven't peeped the Wishlist chart recently, the game in question is Manor Lords from Slavic Magic, a game described as "a medieval strategy game featuring in-depth city building, large-scale tactical battles, and complex economic and social simulations." How many Steam users have wishlist the game, we don't know exactly, but we know back in January it surpassed two million wishlists. Suffice to say, millions are interesting in picking it up when it releases on April 26. If this is your first time hearing about Manor Lords, then below you can find the game's official description and its official trailer.

"Manor Lords is a strategy game that allows you to experience the life of a medieval lord. Grow your starting village into a bustling city, manage resources and production chains, and expand your lands through conquest," reads an official pitch of the game. "Inspired by the art and architecture of late 14th century Franconia, Manor Lords prioritizes historical accuracy wherever possible, using it to inform gameplay mechanics and visuals alike. Common medieval tropes are avoided in favor of historical accuracy, in order to make the world feel more authentic, colorful, and believable."

Of course, if you are not a fan of any of these genres, this game is unlikely to tickle your fancy, but it is a dream come true for many. As you would expect, there is a lot of crossover between fans of strategy, city-builders, and sims, but not many games crossover between two of these genres, let alone all three. Suffice to say, many are excited for it.

When Manor Lords releases on April 26, it will be via Steam Early Access and via the PC only. It will be available via a standard purchase or via PC Game Pass. Meanwhile, a console release -- as well as an Xbox Game Pass release -- are planned, but there's no word of when this will happen.

PS Plus Users Can Download One of 2023's Best Games Tomorrow for Free https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/playstation-ps-plus-free-games-april-dave-the-diver/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 11:49:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer 165ebc7c-7790-46e4-9e01-3d403fb154b1

Starting tomorrow, April 16, PS Plus users on PS4 and PS5, will be able to download one of 2023's best games the moment it finally releases on PS4 and PS5 while every other non-PlayStation Plus subscriber will have to pay $19.99. To be more specific, this offer will be available to PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium subscribers. Those with a subscription to PS Plus Essential, the base tier, will not have free access to this fan-favorite game the moment it releases on PS4 and PS5.

As noted, the game hails from 2023, aka it was released last year. However, last year it only came to PC and Nintendo Switch. Tomorrow it is finally coming to PS4 and PS5. Judging by its 90 on Metacritic, its "Overwhelmingly Positive" user review rating on Steam (thanks to a 97% approval rating across nearly 90,000 user reviews), and the fact it has sold millions of copies, it is safe to say it was one of last year's best games alongside Baldur's Gate 3, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Resident Evil, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Street Fighter 6, Alan Wake 2, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, and a few other heavy hitters. If you haven't connected the dots yet, the mystery game is Dave the Diver.

How long the game from Mintrocket is going to be free via PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium, we don't know. What we do know is it will be a limited time, though no shorter than at least several months. If you decide to check out the game via the subscription service, be prepared to sink at least 25 hours into the game, if not something closer to 50 if you are a completionist.

"Dave the Diver is a casual, single-player adventure RPG featuring deep-sea exploration and fishing during the day and sushi restaurant management at night," reads an official blurb about the game. "Join Dave and his quirky friends as they seek to uncover the secrets of the mysterious Blue Hole."

HBO's The Last of Us Wins Best New Series at 2024 Writers Guild Awards https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/the-last-of-us-best-new-series-wga-awards/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 05:00:00 +0000 Adam Barnhardt 59dbfd85-3920-4609-a525-af81399cd648

Now over a year after it first hit Max, The Last of Us continues adding awards to its hardware case. The latest such award comes from the 2024 Writers Guild of America Awards, where the Craig Mazin-created series walked away with Best New Series. The series beat out The Diplomat, Jury Duty, Poker Face, and Shrinking to win the award.

It's far from the first major award The Last of Us has won over the past year, with the HBO series also winning big at the Emmys, Critics' Choice Awards, and Screen Actors Guild Awards. That's all on top of the tremendous success it found in the television ratings while airing, where it quickly became the highest-rated video game television adaptation of all time.

The series is now shooting principal photography for its Second Season on HBO and Max, a batch of episodes series lead Pedro Pascal calls "amazing."

"Filming is going amazing. It's sort of awe-inspiring the kind of focus and dedication that everyone has going into Season 2," Pascal said to Deadline earlier this year. "It's incredible to be back home with them and creatively and everybody, our entire crew, they're working harder than I could even imagine, even harder than our first season which is close to impossible. [...] Stepping into those boots again, it feels strangely brand new. I've never done anything like this before that has such original authorship before I ever got to it."

Both Pascal and Bella Ramsey are returning to reprise their wildly-beloved roles for the shows first season. Joining them will be a new cast that includes Kaitlyn Dever (Abby), Young Mazino (Jesse), Isabela Merced (Dina), and Catherina O'Hara (unknown). Season 2 is then being helmed by Craig Mazin in tandem with Neil Druckmann, who is the writer and director of both The Last of Us and The Last of Us Part II.

The first season of The Last of Us is now streaming on Max while the second season has yet to set a release date.

Fallout: London's Release Pushed Back Due to Fallout 4's Next-Gen Update https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/fallout-london-release-date-delay-pc/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 03:08:00 +0000 Ricky Frech 38d31e61-c978-4ace-8937-b972cee24b81

One of the reasons Bethesda games are so popular is the studio's embrace of fan mods. Many of these are relatively small, but some modders are incredibly ambitious, creating total conversion mods like Enderal: The Shards of Order, a gigantic 2019 mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. As you'd expect, the Fallout universe is also full of modders trying to replicate the success and scope of Enderal. One of these projects is called Fallout: London, a total conversion mod that takes the bones of Fallout 4 and moves it to London. The project has been in the works since 2019 and was scheduled to release later this month. However, Bethesda recently announced that it's finally launching the next-gen patch for Fallout 4, which has forced the dev team at Team Folon to push the London mod back to an unannounced date.

Fallout: London Release Date Delay

fallout-4.jpg

What's potentially frustrating about this delay is that it's not something that's in Team Folon's hands. Because Bethesda has decided to push the next-gen version of Fallout 4 out two days after the mod was originally scheduled to come out, the team had no choice but to delay the project. The reason for this is that the next-gen update will break several other mods that Fallout: London relies on to get the project working.

Because the team doesn't know how long it will take other mod developers to fix the baseline mods needed for London, they can't provide a realistic timetable for the mod's launch. Team lead Dean Carter said in a new YouTube video that the team "may get lucky with a day one fix, it's unlikely." Instead, players should expect it to take a month or more before Fallout: London is ready for launch.

Either way, it's not all bad news. The next-gen update will allow the team to add features like widescreen support as well as give players access to new performance upgrades. While the delay is frustrating for players and Team Folon alike, it should make the mod better in the long run. However, it's important to note that, given the mod's size, it won't be hosted on Nexus Mods. Instead, players will need to make use of GOG to get the project up and running once it launches. However you slice it, the release of Fallout: London will be a boon for the thousands of players currently jumping into Fallout 4 following the success of the new television series.

What's Next for the Fallout Universe?

While fans are loving the Fallout universe right now, they'll likely be waiting several years before getting a new game in the series. In 2022, Bethesda's Todd Howard announced that work on Fallout 5 wouldn't start until after The Elder Scrolls VI launches. Considering that game didn't enter active development until last year, the next mainline Fallout might not be out until the next decade.

That said, Bethesda has let other developers play with the property before. Fallout: New Vegas is the most prominent modern spin-off in Fallout's history, and now that Bethesda and Obsidian are under the same umbrella, there's some hope that they could partner again. However, given the two developers' sometimes troubled history, that might not be in the cards.

Fortunately, all signs point to the Fallout TV series getting a second season. While nothing official has been announced, the team certainly left enough loose threads that a second season feels inevitable. Hopefully, Amazon will confirm those suspicions soon.

GTA+ Prices Quietly Increase https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/gta-prices-quietly-increase-ps5-xbox-pc/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 02:04:00 +0000 Ricky Frech b3e8bfca-e673-48cd-84ca-e78a5c316498

With how popular (and profitable) Grant Theft Auto Online has become over the last several years, it's little surprise that developer Rockstar Games released a subscription service. For a monthly fee, players can sign up for GTA+ and earn $1.5 million in addition to several other in-game rewards and access to a few games in Rockstar's back catalog. Recently, it was discovered that Rockstar has bumped the monthly fee up slightly and without much fanfare. This may be in anticipation of more fans diving in when Grand Theft Auto 6 launches, but it has been noticed by eagle-eyed fans who are less than happy with Rockstar.

GTA+ Price Has Gone Up Ahead of GTA 6's Release

gta-online-liberator.jpg

The price increase was first reported by Rockstar Intel, who noted the listing on both the Xbox and PlayStation Store has gone from $5.99 per month to $7.99. That's a roughly 33% increase on previous prices, which will hit players on June 11th. That means players can pick it up in May at the lower price, but you won't have long to act. Because Rockstar hasn't made an official announcement, it's hard to say why the developers have raised the price, but it would make the most sense that they are doing this ahead of Grand Theft Auto 6's launch as that game continues to be the most hyped game on the current release calendar.

After all, just the trailer for that game has already set records within the gaming sphere, and it should easily be the top-selling game whenever it launches. That said, the team did recently announce that, for the next few months, players will get an extra injection of in-game cash for signing up to GTA+. Above, we mentioned that GTA+ players get $1.5 million per month, but that was previously only $500,000. Through August, the number has been upped by a million per month, meaning now is a great time to hop in if you need some extra cash. However, it's hard to imagine this price hike is related to that and not the upcoming GTA 6 launch.

Grand Theft Auto 6 Release Date

As of this writing, Grand Theft Auto 6 is still on track to release in 2025. That's the release window that was shared when the game got its first trailer last year, and Rockstar has yet to announce any delays or changes. Recently, a new leak claimed that GTA 6 is on track to launch during Q1 of 2025, though that is only a rumor. If it's true, we'd see the next Grand Theft Auto launch in January or February.

Of course, it's important to remember that Rockstar has had to delay its last few games. Red Dead Redemption 2 was originally scheduled to be released in the back half of 2017 but was pushed back about a year. Meanwhile, Grand Theft Auto 5 was set to launch in Spring 2013 but was pushed back to September. There haven't been any rumors of a delay, but it would not be too surprising given the developer's history and the scope of Grand Theft Auto 6.

Ratchet & Clank Fans Surprised With Free DLC on PS5 and PS4 https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/ratchet-and-clank-ps5-ps4-dlc-free/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 01:03:00 +0000 Logan Moore 8d0d0594-ea90-4f85-bf38-440c86f457bf

Developer Insomniac Games has surprised fans of the Ratchet & Clank series with free DLC that can be snagged across PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. At this point in time, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is the newest installment in Insomniac's long-running action series as it launched back in 2021. Prior to this, Insomniac had released a reboot of the original Ratchet & Clank game on PS4 in 2016 that was hugely popular. Now, after nearly a decade's worth of requests, new DLC for this reboot has come about and makes the game content-complete for many.

To celebrate the eighth anniversary of Ratchet & Clank releasing, Insomniac has been able to finally release the Bouncer as a free weapon that all players could obtain at no cost. Originally, when Ratchet & Clank first launched, the gun was only available to those who had pre-ordered the game and had received a code that would allow them to unlock the weapon. As the years have continued to pass, though, fans have implored Insomniac to release the Bouncer for all Ratchet & Clank players rather than keep it locked behind this arbitrary wall. At last, this has now been able to transpire as the Bouncer can now be downloaded on the PlayStation Store in perpetuity for nothing.

Although this might not seem like a huge deal, especially given that this free DLC isn't even for the newest Ratchet & Clank title, the game happens to also be optimized for PS5. As such, you can still take advantage of the newest PlayStation hardware and can experience Ratchet & Clank in 60fps, which is a big step up compared to the base PS4 version. While it might not look visually as impressive as Rift Apart, Ratchet & Clank is still a ton of fun and is very worth revisiting (or playing for the first time) in the wake of this DLC going live.

Are you going to look to revisit Ratchet & Clank now that the Bouncer has been added for everyone? Or did you already own this weapon when the game released back in 2016? Let me know either down in the comments section or reach out to me on social media at @MooreMan12.

Cliff Bleszinski's LawBreakers Is Making a Comeback Thanks to Fans https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/cliff-bleszinskis-lawbreakers-comeback-pc/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 01:00:00 +0000 Ricky Frech 101689c8-01aa-42ea-828a-8495bf37b0bc

Back in 2017, Gears of War lead designer Cliff Bleszinski and his team at Boss Key Productions launched a first-person hero shooter called LawBreakers. The game performed solidly among critics but was unable to bring in enough players to keep the lights on. After trying to pivot to the battle royale genre with Radical Heights, Boss Key closed its doors and LawBreakers went dark for good. However, over the last year, Bleszinski has been teasing that LawBreakers might make a comeback, and that has finally materialized in the form of a fan reboot.

LawBreakers Fan Project Revealed

While this isn't an official release from Boss Key or LawBreakers' original publisher Nexon, the project was shared by Cliff Bleszinski on his Twitter late last week. There, he linked to the official Discord, which you can join if you'd like to get updates on the future of the project. From glancing through it, it appears that the team behind the RELB project has been working on this since 2022. They recently held the first successful public playtests, though it's important to remember that his project is still very much "a work in progress."

In fact, the LawBreakers' project held its most recent playtest the weekend of this writing. Everything seems to have worked well, which is a good sign for the future of the fan project. Earlier today, Bleszinskis came back to the original thread to share the team's new website where players can download the game and use the installation guide to get it up and running. It's pretty barebones at this point, but the important info is there if you're interested in hopping back into LawBreakers' brand of hero shooter.

What's Cliff Bleszinski Working On?

With the success of this fan resurrection, you might be wondering if Bleszinski has something cooking for his next project. However, after Boss Key shut down, Bleszinski spread his creative wings and took on several non-video game projects. He was an investor and co-producer for both Hadestown and a revival of Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune. Then, he left the stage behind to work on his 2022 memoir Control Freak: My Epic Adventure Making Video Games.

Bleszinski's most recent project is a comic book series called Scrapper, which is described as "Blade Runner-style action mixe[d] with big emotions as stray dog Scrapper and his buddy Tank fight for justice against the totalitarian forces of a post-apocalyptic domed city." The hardcover version of the comic book is due later this month. All of that doesn't mean Bleszinski won't ever get back into making games, but he is definitely not lacking for projects to work on these days.

Persona 1 and 2 Remakes Are Reportedly Incoming https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/persona-1-2-remakes-games-atlus-report/ Sun, 14 Apr 2024 23:53:00 +0000 Logan Moore 97eb9711-60e9-42ef-a7ed-c175ddce90f8

A reputable insider has said that remakes of both the original Persona and Persona 2 are going to be arriving in the future. Earlier this year, developer Atlus ended up releasing a remake of Persona 3 which it dubbed Persona 3 Reload. Generally speaking, P3R was quite well-received and opened the door for Atlus to continue bringing back older entries in the series in this same manner. Now, new word has come about that says Atlus will be doing exactly this in the years to follow.

In a recent message shared on social media, an insider that goes by the name Midori said that Persona and Persona 2 "are going to receive remakes too." They went on to specify in a follow-up message that these new versions of P1 and P2 might not be full remakes, but they will be released in an "updated form". Given how accurate Midori has been in the past when it comes to info tied to Sega and Atlus, this scoop carries quite a bit of weight with it.

The curious thing about Persona 2 being remade, in particular, is that this entry in the franchise is actually part of a duology. The first game in the pair, Persona 2: Innocent Sin, arrived in 1999 on the PS1 and was later followed by Persona 2: Eternal Punishment in 2000. Both entries technically make up the entire Persona 2 experience, so it's not known if Atlus would look to remake both as part of a single package or if instead only one game would get the remake treatment.

In addition to Persona and Persona 2, previous reports have claimed that Atlus is also looking to remake Persona 4. Although details are still spotty, it's assumed that this remake would be much more in line with what Atlus recently did with Persona 3 Reload. As for Atlus itself, the Japanese developer and publisher has yet to confirm that any of these games tied to Persona are in the pipeline. In the near term, the studio is gearing up to release Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance this summer which will be followed by Metaphor: ReFantazio in the back half of 2024.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Sales Continue to Be Substantially Less Than FF7 Remake https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/final-fantasy-7-vii-ff7-rebirth-sales-ps5-square-enix/ Sun, 14 Apr 2024 23:21:00 +0000 Logan Moore 574e3169-1057-4659-ac16-400975be99ec

Sales for Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII Rebirth continue to be far less when compared to Final Fantasy VII Remake. When the second entry in Square's Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy launched a little more than a month ago, early data indicated that it didn't get off to as strong of a start as the first installment when it arrived back in 2020. At the time, it wasn't known if Rebirth's sales would pick up more strongly in the weeks after its release, but we now know that this doesn't seem to be the case.

Based on new information from video game industry analyst Daniel Ahmad, the sales for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth are still much weaker when compared to the units that Final Fantasy VII Remake sold over the same span. Shared on X (or Twitter), Ahmad recently stated that Rebirth is "selling about half of what Remake sold in the same timeframe". He went on to say that all current signs point to Rebirth having a weaker trajectory in the weeks and months ahead as well.

If there's one primary reason why Final Fantasy VII Rebirth isn't hitting the same heights seen with Remake, it would likely be because of the platform it launched on. Although both FFVII Remake entries have been exclusive to PlayStation, the first installment launched in the very late stages of the PS4's life when over 100 million units had already been sold around the globe. By comparison, the PS5, which is what Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is exclusive to, barely has half of that same install base. As a result, Square Enix surely anticipated that Rebirth's sales would be softer when compared to the last game.

The good news with this situation is that even if Square Enix views Final Fantasy VII Rebirth as even a little bit of a disappointment so far, that isn't going to derail plans for the next game. In fact, those at the publisher said just a few days ago that Part 3 of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy is expected to take three years to develop. If this holds true, it means that the next game in the series will arrive at some point in 2027.

EA Sports FC 24 TOTS Live: Leaked Players, Release Date https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/ea-sports-fc-24-tots-live-leaked-players-release-date/ Sun, 14 Apr 2024 22:04:00 +0000 Ricky Frech 882acdd4-256c-4051-a228-7e2d5a323370

Next week, EA Sports FC 24 will start its annual Team of the Season promo in Ultimate Team. This is one of the most exciting promos of the year because it adds high-rated cards from all over the world to EA FC over several weeks. This year, it's been leaked that the developers at Electronic Arts are adding a new squad to the mode alongside the normal TOTS promo which can be upgraded based on real-world performance. These "live" cards will be highly coveted because they might get further upgrades for free. Thankfully, the same leakers who discovered the promo have also already leaked several of the cards coming next week. Below, you'll find a full rundown on all of the leaked TOTS Live cards coming to EA Sports FC 24.

EAFC TOTS Live Leaked Players

ea-sports-fc-24-lionel-messi.jpg
(Photo: EA Sports)

These leaks come from FUT Sheriff and Fut Scoreboard on Twitter. The two accounts have built up a solid reputation in the EA Sports FC 24 community during the last few years. Of course, you'll still want to take these leaks with a hefty grain of salt. Sheriff, in particular, is generally solid but has had a few mishaps over the years, so don't assume anything. Here are the currently leaked players:

Leaked TOTS Live Players

  • Luka Modric - Real Madrid
  • Bruno Fernandes - Manchester United
  • Cristian Romero - Tottenham
  • Jonathan Clauss - OM
  • Jeremy Doku - Manchester City
  • Kai Havertz - Arsenal
  • Mohammed Kudus - West Ham
  • Lucas Vazquez - Real Madrid
  • Yann Aurel Bisseck - Inter Milan
  • Ruben Loftus-Cheek - AC Milan
  • John McGinn - Aston Villa
  • Merino - Real Sociedad
  • Raphinha - Barcelona
  • Dominik Szobosszlai - Liverpool
  • Allan Saint-Maximin - Al Ahli
  • Maximillian Beier - Hoffenheim
  • Piero Hincapie - Leverkusen
  • Gabri Veiga - Al Ahli
  • Wilfried Zaha - Galatasaray
  • Nicolas Otamendi - Benfica
  • Antonee Robinson - Fulham

The leakers also claim there will be at least 11 more players added to the list, but said those players are relatively "minor." If those names are leaked publicly, we will update the list above to reflect that. Either way, the list above reflects the bulk of the players coming with the TOTS Live promo.

How Will TOTS Live Work in EA Sports FC 24

In addition to leaking the teams, Fut Scoreboard has leaked the upgrade path that will launch alongside the team's release. Unlike previous live cards, this one won't give out Weak Foot or Skill Move upgrades. Instead, players can earn a total of two In-Form upgrades based on their team's real-world performance. Here's how TOTS Live cards can get upgraded:

  • Two wins in the next four league matches - 1 In-Form Upgrade
  • Eight goals in the next four league matches - 1 In-Form Upgrade

EA Sports FC 24 TOTS Live Start Date

The TOTS Live promo will presumably start on April 19th at 1 p.m. ET. That's when the first week of TOTS starts and generally when EA starts new promos in Ultimate Team. As it does most weeks, Electronic Arts will likely drop a new loading screen in the coming days letting us know when to expect the promo and a hint of who might be coming. It's also worth noting that some of the cards listed above might drop later in the week, depending on how EA decides to break things up. This is a brand-new promo, so we don't know exactly how it will roll out yet.

EA Sports FC 24 is available now on PlayStation, Switch, Xbox, and PC platforms.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Hayden Christensen Rumor Possibly Debunked https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/sonic-the-hedgehog-3-hayden-christensen-rumor-debunked-shadow/ Sun, 14 Apr 2024 21:05:00 +0000 Marc Deschamps a59cc4c5-0ceb-4fe1-ac18-57500afcff79

When Sonic the Hedgehog 3 releases later this year, the movie will feature Shadow the Hedgehog in a key role. The character appeared at the very end of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, but viewers did not get a chance to hear his voice. For the last two years, fans have speculated about who might take on the role, and one of the biggest rumors has centered around Hayden Christensen. In a clip released in February, Shadow can be heard laughing, and many people seemed to think it sounded like the Darth Vader actor. However, that rumor might have been debunked by YouTuber John Campea.

"Well... I can tell you that in Sonic 3, Hayden Christensen is NOT the voice of Shadow. Can't say who it's going to be, but people will be very happy," Campea wrote on his YouTube community page.

Who Will Voice Shadow in Sonic the Hedgehog 3?

Campea has a huge following on YouTube, and tends to be pretty reliable, so if he says Christensen isn't playing Shadow, there's a good chance he's correct. Unfortunately, that leaves fans still wondering just who Paramount will have voicing the character. The company got a very big name for Knuckles when they cast Idris Elba in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and it would make sense to have another big actor for Shadow. With Paramount considering future Sonic spin-offs, and Shadow having starred in his own games in the past, it makes sense to cast someone recognizable that could carry a future project.

What Role Will Shadow Play in Sonic the Hedgehog 3?

Shadow made his debut in Sonic Adventure 2 as the game's primary antagonist. A genetically engineered creation of Gerald Robotnik (Dr. Robotnik's grandfather), Shadow initially teamed up with Dr. Robotnik. However, at the game's conclusion, both Shadow and Robotnik allied with Sonic and friends to save the world. Shadow seemingly dies a hero, but the character's popularity resulted in his return a few years later. Since then, Shadow has appeared in several games, often serving as something of an anti-hero. He'll appear later this year in Sonic x Shadow Generations.

Since Sonic the Hedgehog 2 loosely adapted the events of Sonic 3 & Knuckles, there's a strong possibility that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will do the same with Sonic Adventure 2. The previous movie already featured Knuckles as an enemy turned hero, but it would be interesting to see Robotnik and Sonic working alongside Shadow to save the world. That could also prove to be a nice swan song for Jim Carrey in the films, as the actor has discussed a potential retirement over the last two years. Nothing has been revealed about the story so far, so fans are just going to have to speculate until we get some news ahead of the film's December 20th theatrical release.

Who do you want to see play Shadow? Were you hoping it would be Hayden Christensen? Share your thoughts with me directly on Twitter at @Marcdachamp or on Instagram at @Dachampgaming!

On April 12th, the developers at Sony San Diego kicked off Team Affinity Season 1, Chapter 2 in MLB The Show 24. This new Diamond Dynasty program gives players access to 36 new 93 OVR players but requires a huge chunk of time to finish everything. Thankfully, the team also dropped several ways to earn XP for the program, including a new Conquest Map. Of course, the main rewards aren't the only thing players can earn from the new Team Affinity Chapter 2 Conquest Map in MLB The Show 24. There are several new Hidden Rewards to uncover if you know where to look. Below, you'll find a full breakdown of the new Team Affinity Chapter 2 Conquest Map in MLB The Show 24.

Hidden Rewards on the Team Affinity Chapter 2 in MLB The Show 24

mlb-the-show-24-ta-2.jpg

As you can see in the image above there are all kinds of Hidden Rewards to earn on the Team Affinity Chapter 2 Conquest Map. Mostly, this map gives out The Show Packs, but there is one Stub drop to pick up as you work through this Conquest. Note that two of the Strongholds have an extra reward, which you can see below. Here's the full rundown on everything you'll earn from Hidden Rewards:

  • 6 The Show Packs
  • 250 Stubs
  • Headliners Pack - Blue Jays Stronghold
  • Ballin' Pack - Dodgers Stronghold

MLB The Show 24 TA Chapter 2 Goals

With the hidden rewards out of the way, you'll also want to track down all of the normal goals to make sure you get everything. If you want everything this Conquest has to offer, you'll need to capture every single territory. That's going to take you at least 15 games, so it's smart to build up Fans and play on Rookie to make it easy. You also might consider jumping back into this map multiple times because there are repeatable goals for Team Affinity Vouchers, making that grind go a bit quicker. Here are the regular goals for the Conquest Map:

  • Acquire 100M Fans - 3 x The Show Pack
  • (Repeatable) Capture 5 enemy Strongholds - 1 x Team Affinity Season 1: Chapter Voucher
  • (Repeatable) Capture 10 enemy Strongholds - 1 x Team Affinity Season 1: Chapter Voucher
  • (Repeatable) Capture all 15 enemy Strongholds - 2 x Team Affinity Season 1: Chapter Vouchers
  • Conquer all territories and complete the Team Affinity Chapter 2 map - 90 OVR Choice Pack (Spring Breakout and Seoul Series)

That final reward lets you grab a previously released pack card without spending Stubs. We'd suggest going with either Paul Skenes or Jackson Holliday. Both players are available in the Spring Breakout 1 pack and have been very popular options to start the year.

MLB The Show 24: How To Complete Team Affinity 2 Extreme Showdown https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/mlb-the-show-24-how-to-complete-ta-extreme-showdown-ps5-xbox/ Sun, 14 Apr 2024 20:13:00 +0000 Ricky Frech 17f5f7a4-e4e3-4865-b687-8138d2c4549a

Recently, Sony San Diego dropped Team Affinity Season 1, Chapter 2 into MLB The Show 24's Diamond Dynasty mode. The content drop gives players access to 30 new 93 OVR players and the chance to pick up a few of the more popular players from previous promos. However, the grind to finish them all can be incredibly time-consuming. One way to get a headstart on Team Affinity Chapter 2 is by completing the new Extreme Showdown in MLB The Show 24. This is a challenging mode, but there are a few steps you can take to make it a bit easier and get 20,000 XP for all six TA 2 programs.

Drafting for the Extreme Showdown in MLB The Show 24

(Photo: San Diego Studio)

The most important part about the Extreme Showdown in MLB The Show 24 might be the draft. Remember, these challenges are going to be on All-Star difficulty or higher and you cannot fail a challenge or you'll have to reset the Showdown. However, there's an important caveat to Showdowns. Your team will never be in the field so there's no reason to draft based on positional need. If you toss Texas Ranges Catcher Mitch Garver into the outfield, there won't be any negative effects.

Therefore, the best thing you can do is draft the best hitters available. Because these challenges are on a higher difficulty, you'll want to target players with high contact to give yourself an easy time at the dish. Power hitters are nice, but if your PCI is so tiny you can't get your bat on the ball, it won't help much. Look for players like Josh Bell, Ed Mathews, Steven Kwan, or the aforementioned Garver.

You'll also want to get Perks like Hero Time and Rally Time. Bunting-related Perks can also be very helpful if you're not the best hitter because you can use Perks like Bunt Cheese to advance a runner and pick up much-needed runs to complete each challenge. The long ball might be more fun, but the goal is to put some runs away and move on.

Tips for Winning the Extreme Showdown in MLB The Show 24

There are a few ways to make this Showdown slightly easier, though, at the end of the day, the best advice is to lock in and focus on each at bat. You need to master the basepaths. Ideally, you would just hit bombs all day and be finished quickly, but if you're struggling, it's time to get more creative. Make use of bunts to move players around the bases and set yourself up for easy runs.

It's also worth noting that some of the pitchers you come up against will be relievers. Regardless, you have to work the pitch count during each at-bat. Consider taking your first two strikes to get that pitch count up and tire out the pitcher. This will make them a bit easier to hit and you might draw a few walks if you're patient. Either way, the key is to play smart and force the computer to pitch to you.

That advice goes double when you get to Rob Dibble. Again, he's a closer, so take advantage of his low stamina and you should be able to finish the challenge. Finally, it's worth noting that some players have had success switching from Zone hitting to Timing. We prefer to play on the latter because it makes you a better overall player, but if you're really struggling, it might be worth trying.

MLB The Show 24 is available now on PlayStation and Xbox platforms.

Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance Reveals New Story Details in Latest Trailer https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/smt-shin-megami-tensei-v-5-vengeance-trailer/ Sun, 14 Apr 2024 20:06:00 +0000 Logan Moore 7b8c56e4-0596-4013-940c-466dd51ad2ca

Atlus has revealed a new trailer for Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance ahead of its launch later this summer. After first releasing on Nintendo Switch back in 2021, Atlus revealed earlier this year that it would be bringing its latest mainline Shin Megami Tensei entry to all platforms with a new, expanded iteration. Now, with Vengeance roughly two months out from its arrival, Atlus is beginning to show off more of what it will have in store.

Dubbed "The Sacrifice", the newest trailer for Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance highlights the narrative of the game's new story. In addition to containing the base version of SMT V that arrived nearly three years ago, Vengeance will incorporate a second campaign that will center around revenge. Along with highlighting this new story mode, this trailer for SMT V: Vengeance also happens to show off more of the title's new gameplay elements, which have received a noticeable visual improvement on platforms that include PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.

You can watch this new trailer for SMT V: Vengeance right here:

"When a grisly murder scene in modern-day Tokyo blocks our protagonist's walk home, an unplanned detour leaves him buried and unconscious," says the official synopsis of Vengeance from Atlus. "He awakens in a new Tokyo, a wasteland ravaged by apocalypse now called Da'at... but before bloodthirsty demons can claim his life, a savior emerges, and the two of them unite to become a mighty being, neither human nor demon: a Nahobino. With newfound power, the protagonist ventures through Da'at, an enigmatic realm filled with mythical deities and demonic tyrants in constant conflict for survival. Searching for answers, the protagonist must forge his own path in a battle between angels and demons to dictate the fate of the world."

As mentioned, Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance is two months away from its release as the game will arrive on June 14, 2024. When it does launch, it will be coming to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC platforms. Additionally, it will also again be arriving on Nintendo Switch, which is where the base game exclusively resides.

New Disney Dreamlight Valley Star Path Tease Has Fans Stumped https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/disney-dreamlight-valley-early-spring-update-star-path-teaser/ Sun, 14 Apr 2024 19:42:00 +0000 Marc Deschamps 959c9be7-65c6-4782-a665-37dc439e25b7

Disney Dreamlight Valley's current Star Path theme is Lovely Monsters, and largely focuses on content from Monsters, Inc. and Monsters University. With just under two days left before the Star Path comes to an end, developer Gameloft has released a teaser on Twitter for the next one. While players are usually pretty good at solving these riddles, this latest batch seems to have everyone stumped! As is usually the case, the clues are all based around different emoji combinations. The first clue includes a bag of popcorn and a squirrel, the second clue has a star, a car, and a dog, and the final clue has a pretzel and a man.

What Disney Dreamlight Valley Fans are Guessing

The popcorn and squirrel combination has fans guessing something related to Chip and Dale. That might seem unusual, but as Twitter user GlendatheBad notes, the two characters did appear in a popcorn-related animated short with Donald Duck titled Corn Chips. As for the second clue, many people are guessing something related to Bolt, or possibly Oliver and Company. Lastly, the third clue could be some kind of pretzel stand furniture item. That would be plausible, as Disney Dreamlight Valley currently has furniture items like an Ice Cream Stand and a Popcorn Machine, so a Pretzel Stand would fit in nicely.

Unfortunately, this is all just speculation from the game's community! There's no telling how these things would fit together as part of a Star Path theme, and we don't know when the next Star Path will be introduced. Disney Dreamlight Valley's next update is slated to launch in "early spring," but there's also one coming in "late spring." Neither update has a set release date.

Disney Dreamlight Valley Early Spring Update

Since April would surely count as "early spring," there's a strong possibility we'll see Disney Dreamlight Valley's new update within the next couple weeks. Gameloft has been slowly releasing teasers about the update, including a recent one about some kind of new building. That building was revealed via a strange pair of images on April 1st, and there's been nothing said about it since. A roadmap released last year also hinted that Daisy Duck will appear as part of the early spring update.

The update will be a free one, but those that purchased the game's A Rift in Time expansion pass can expect some exclusive content. The DLC storyline will continue, and will see the arrival of a new character. The roadmap calls this character "a very lucky villager," and there's been speculation that it could be Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. With the new update quickly approaching, we should have a lot more details soon. For now, fans will just have to speculate about what's coming next!

EA Sports FC 24: Best Players for Showdown Winners Boost 2 https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/ea-sports-fc-24-best-players-showdown-winners-boost-2/ Sun, 14 Apr 2024 18:51:00 +0000 Ricky Frech 90fc69f0-3afd-413d-9d40-00e3b22ac9e9

EA Sports FC 24 is gearing up to start its annual Team of the Season promo. The celebration of the year in soccer is set to launch next week, and the Ultimate Team creators are currently treating fans to the TOTS Warm-Up series, giving players tons of ways to earn packs before TOTS kicks off. However, the team has also introduced several Showdown Squad-Building Challenges recently, which can be upgraded based on real-world performance. If you want to give those Showdown winners an extra boost, EA Sports FC 24 has introduced a new Evolution that lets you upgrade them even further. Below, we'll break down the Showdown Winners Boost II and give you a list of the best players to use it on.

What is the EAFC 24 Showdown Winners Boost II Evolution?

ea-sports-fc-24-marta.jpg
(Photo: EA Sports)

Fortunately, this Evolution is free, which is good because you'll need to spend either Coins or fodder to get any of the players you need to complete it. Here are the requirements you'll need to keep in mind:

  • Rarity: Showdown Plus

Once you finish all of the Objectives, you'll earn +1 Overall, +2 Shooting, +1 Passing, +1 Defending, +1 Dribbling, +2 Physical, +1 Pace.

The Best Players for the Showdown Winners Boost II Evolution

As mentioned, this Evolution only uses Showdown cards from previous SBCs. On top of that, they need to have won their matchup to get the Showdown Plus Rarity. Because of that, we can't give you a list of the best players to use because all of the Showdown SBCs that have winners have expired. Thus, below we've put together a list of the best SBCs to complete if you want to set yourself up for a future boost (though keep in mind they might lose their matchup).

  • Sebastian Haller - Dortmund
  • Alex Sandro - Juventus
  • Leandro Trossard - Arsenal
  • Sergi Roberto - Barcelona

You're taking a risk completing any of these SBCs because any of these players could lose their matchup, leaving you stuck with a lower-rated card. That said, many of these players could become very good with the upgrade. Haller is probably the best option (assuming his team wins) because he's a tall striker who could use the extra shot boost. Sandro won't get as much use out of it, but Juventus is the favorite to win this matchup.

The Champion's League games are much more up in the air. Arsenal is on the road for their matchup and facing the always-strong Bayern Munich. While Bayern might win the game, the boost doesn't work as well for Eric Dier, so if you're taking a punt, Trossard is the better option. Meanwhile, Roberto and Barcelona are at home and already have a goal up on PSG. With that in mind, the Spaniard is a smarter choice than Mukiele if you're playing the odds.

EA Sports FC 24 is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms. The Showdown Winner's Boost II expires on May 11th.

EA's Black Panther Game Will Be Open World https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/black-panther-game-ea-open-world/ Sun, 14 Apr 2024 18:40:00 +0000 Logan Moore cd6ae944-97ed-4416-8c10-d1731b9c6f07

It looks as though Electronic Arts' upcoming Black Panther video game will be set in an open world. In case you forgot, EA announced this past summer that it was working on a game associated with the Marvel superhero at the newly established studio Cliffhanger Games. At the time of its announcement, EA opted to not share much information about the project, but it looks as though we've now gathered a few new details in an unexpected way.

In a new job listing on EA's website, the publisher was found to be hiring a "Principal Sandbox Designer" for Marvel's Black Panther. The description of the position says that the eventual hire would need to design various gameplay mechanics and systems that would function in "a rich, sandbox environment." As a result, it seems clear that Marvel's Black Panther is going to be an open world game, which is something that EA previously hadn't disclosed.

"We're dedicated to delivering fans a definitive and authentic Black Panther experience, giving them more agency and control over their narrative than they have ever experienced in a story-driven video game," said Cliffhanger boss Kevin Stephens at the time of the game's reveal. "Wakanda is a rich superhero sandbox, and our mission is to develop an epic world for players who love Black Panther and want to explore the world of Wakanda as much as we do."

For the time being, EA and Marvel Games haven't provided even a broad release window for Marvel's Black Panther. Given that EA is still in the midst of hiring for key positions at Cliffhanger Games, it's assumed that the project is still many, many years away. Alongside Black Panther, Marvel Games has also greenlit a bevy of other games that include Marvel's Blade, Marvel's Wolverine, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, and Marvel's Iron Man. This Iron Man title also happens to be in development at EA along with Black Panther.

How do you feel about the potential of an open world Black Panther game from EA? And which upcoming Marvel title do you happen to be anticipating the most? Be sure to let me know either down in the comments section or reach out to me on social media at @MooreMan12.

Halo Co-Creator Rumored to Return for Next Game in the Series https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/halo-co-creator-marcus-lehto-new-xbox-game/ Sun, 14 Apr 2024 18:21:00 +0000 Marc Deschamps 1fe44923-5b70-4138-bdcf-3db70ab0f72a

Since 2001, Halo has been the franchise most closely associated with the Xbox brand. The franchise put the original Xbox on the map, helping Microsoft create a niche to compete with PlayStation and Nintendo. We don't know what to expect next from the series, but a new rumor suggests that the follow-up to Halo Infinite could see the return of co-creator Marcus Lehto. Lehto joined EA in 2021, but announced his departure from the publisher in February. On April 8th, he suggested on Twitter that he might retire, but just two days later he Tweeted about working with Unreal Engine 5.

Unreal Engine 5 is used by a lot of developers, so that wouldn't be newsworthy on its own, but recent rumors have suggested that the next game in the Halo series will begin using that engine. As a result, many fans are questioning whether Lehto has been asked to return to Halo. Lehto's last game in the franchise was 2010's Halo: Reach, which was also the last Halo developed by Bungie. Lehto left the developer in 2011, and later worked on Disintegration with Private Division. He has not been associated with the Halo franchise since.

Will Lehto Come Back to Halo?

If Lehto really is returning to the series he helped create, it will be interesting to see what impact it has. Reception to Halo Infinite was largely mixed, with huge praise heaped on the campaign, and fans being largely unhappy with the limited multiplayer options. Developer 343 Industries has turned around perception quite a bit since launch, with a steady stream of content, including new maps and modes. Presumably, 343 will continue on with the series for its next entry, but it's possible this game could have Lehto back in the director's chair, or working alongside Halo Infinite directors Joseph Staten, Paul Crocker, and Tom French.

The Future of Halo

At the moment, there are a lot of questions surrounding the Halo franchise, and Xbox in general. Rumors have suggested the series could finally go multi-platform, with some kind of release on PS5. Xbox has been bringing more of its first-party games to Nintendo Switch and PS5 lately, including titles like Grounded, Sea of Thieves, and Hi-Fi Rush. At this time, there's been no word about Halo doing the sane, but it could be a franchise that's too important to Microsoft to make available outside of Xbox consoles and PC.

Of course, a multi-platform release for Halo could be the perfect way to cash-in on the success of the live-action series. The show's second season was received a lot better than Season 1, from both reviewers and fans like Lehto. We don't know if the show is getting a Season 3 renewal just yet, but if it does, Microsoft could grow the audience for the show and games by bringing the next Halo to PS5.

Would you like to see Lehto return to the Halo franchise? What do you want to see from the next Halo game? Share your thoughts with me directly on Twitter at @Marcdachamp or on Instagram at @Dachampgaming!

Fallout Games Are Blowing Up on Steam Following TV Show Release https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/fallout-games-steam-charts/ Sun, 14 Apr 2024 17:41:00 +0000 Logan Moore ad508f8a-ac48-4549-959e-0f3a7be717a9

The Fallout series has been revitalized on Steam this weekend in the wake of Prime Video's new TV series releasing. In recent years, Bethesda hasn't done much with Fallout whatsoever. The latest installment in the franchise, Fallout 76, launched back in 2018 and was preceded by 2015's Fallout 4. Despite not having any new entries on the horizon, many fans are now returning to some older titles in the series to get their Fallout fix.

As of this moment, Fallout 4 and Fallout 76 are the third and fourth top-selling games on Steam respectively. Part of this spike in sales is due to sales for each title that Bethesda began once Fallout went live on Prime Video. Entries such as Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas also happen to now be discounted on Steam, with Bethesda also selling every Fallout game in history on Steam as part of a single bundle that retails for roughly $45.

Outside of simply charting this high on the sales list, numerous different Fallout games are seen on Steam's most-played chart. Fallout 4 is the highest-played game of the bunch and has seen nearly 80,000 concurrent players today, making it the 15th most-played title on Steam. Fallout 76 is then also seeing a resurgence and is the 39th on the Steam charts, while Fallout: New Vegas is also cracking the top 100 and appears at 94th overall.

This momentum that the Fallout franchise now has should only continue in the weeks ahead as Bethesda recently announced that it will be releasing a next-gen upgrade for Fallout 4 later this month. Going live on April 25, this new patch will add a 60 frames per second performance option on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S along with additional fidelity improvements. In addition, Bethesda is also adding new quests to Fallout 4, with the most notable centering around the Enclave faction.

Have you found yourself returning to any Fallout games from the past this weekend? And assuming you've watched the Fallout TV adaptation, what did you think of it? Let me know either down in the comments or reach out to me on social media at @MooreMan12.

The Witcher Season 4 Costume Designs Might be Video Game Inspired https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/the-witcher-season-4-costume-designs-wild-hunt-inspired/ Sun, 14 Apr 2024 15:59:00 +0000 Marc Deschamps f2eff933-0a93-4a56-8795-b3c60d920bfb

The success of The Witcher on Netflix can be attributed to several factors, but it's impossible to deny the role the video games have had. CD Projket Red has had a huge impact on the franchise's popularity around the world, and it seems the show's next season could draw some inspiration from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. According to reporting from Redanian Intelligence, Geralt's new design in Season 4 will have a leather jacket similar to the game's Grandmaster Wolven armor. Meanwhile, Ciri's design will apparently pull from her base outfit from that same game "but with fewer accessories."

A New Look for Geralt of Rivia

It should be noted that we don't have any images from the new season, so it's impossible to judge the veracity of these claims, and Redanian Intelligence doesn't seem to have seen these costume designs either; it appears the information comes from a source for the site. That said, Redanian Intelligence has a really strong reputation when it comes to all things Witcher related, so if it says these new costumes seem to be inspired by The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, there's a good chance that's truly the case.

Of course, when Netflix does pull back the curtain on The Witcher Season 4, fans are going to be a lot more curious about what Geralt actually looks like, as opposed to what he's wearing. Season 3 saw the departure of series star Henry Cavill, and the role of Geralt will be played in Season 4 by Liam Hemsworth. It's been about a year and a half since Cavill's replacement was announced, and there's still a lot of uncertainty. If Hemsworth looks good enough as the character, it could help to quell frustrations among fans, and get them to give the new season a shot.

Pulling from the Source Material

Both Netflix and Cavill have kept quiet about the reasons for the star's departure from The Witcher. There have been countless rumors about the reasoning, with many fans speculating that the actor was not happy with the show's faithfulness to the source material. Cavill would actually try to sneak in elements from the works of Andrzej Sapkowski, and it's possible he was tired of fighting for the adaptation he wanted to see. Ironically, giving Geralt and Ciri designs that are closer to the video games is one way the show could be more faithful to things that came before, even if Cavill won't be around to be a part of it.

As Redanian Intelligence notes, filming on The Witcher Season 4 is expected to start soon, so we might get our first look at Hemsworth as Geralt very soon! Hopefully fans won't be kept waiting long.

Are you looking forward to The Witcher Season 4? Do you hope to see some elements from the video games? Share your thoughts with me directly on Twitter at @Marcdachamp or on Instagram at @Dachampgaming!

Texas Chain Saw Massacre Reveals Upcoming Fixes for Sissy, Leatherface, and More https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/texas-chain-saw-massacre-ps5-xbox-fixes-sissy-leatherface/ Sun, 14 Apr 2024 14:45:00 +0000 Marc Deschamps de37c87f-9682-4766-a093-e6b43642bfdd

A fix for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre's latest Victim is coming on April 16th, but the developers have a bunch of other changes that are currently planned for the game. Gun Media has shared a new edition of "The Muerto Times," which reveals various problems in the game and what stage they're currently in. Some of these are further along than others, with the most notable one being a fix for Sissy's poisons. All of the currently planned fixes can be found listed below:

FIX IN TESTING

  • Family Unable to Be Door Stunned
  • Danny Unable to Tamper
  • Sissy's Poison Through Crawl Spaces, Wall Gaps, and Barricades

UNDER INVESTIGATION

  • Tuning Grappler and Fast Hands
  • Leatherface Rev Exploit
  • Virginia's Boon and Bone Scraps

NEEDS MORE INFO

  • Trap and Snare Animation Issues
  • Grandpa Interactions

Nugget Problems and a Leatherface Cheat

On the game's subreddit, Gun Media offered a bit of extra detail about some of these issues, and exactly what the developers are investigating. Boon is a special ability that allows Virginia to temporarily blind the Family members using a blue cloud of smoke. She can also use it against the family's chicken, Nugget, to prevent it from making noise and giving away her location. However, it seems using it on Nugget "will incorrectly consume a bone scrap if you have one." Meanwhile, the rev exploit is a cheat that allows Leatherface players to avoid being stunned by doors by revving his chainsaw "at a specific time."

At this time, no information has been provided about when these changes will take place. It's possible we could see some of them alongside the fixes to Virginia's skill tree later this month, or fans could end up waiting a little bit longer. It's also worth noting that these aren't the only issues that are currently being worked on.

What Fans Want to See in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

Naturally, these updates from Gun Media have resulted in a lot of comments from players about what they're still hoping to see. Lobby issues continue to be a pressing concern for players, while some have pointed out that dialogue for the Family seems to be broken, triggering when it's not supposed to.

Of course, many other players shared their desire to see a new Killer introduced. A new Family member was teased several weeks ago, but nothing has been revealed just yet. We don't know anything about the Killer's design or backstory, only that it will likely be an original character; Gun Media only has the rights to the first movie in the series, so any material outside that film must be wholly new and not based off of any of the sequels. That could change in the future, but nothing has been announced.

How do you feel about these potential fixes in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre? Is there something you want to see fixed in the game? Share your thoughts with me directly on Twitter at @Marcdachamp or on Instagram at @Dachampgaming!

New Elden Ring Manga Isn't What You Might Think https://comicbook.com/anime/news/elden-ring-new-streamer-manga-read/ Sun, 14 Apr 2024 13:43:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 3d4d1fcc-7146-4a05-b5db-b29875c3a215

Elden Ring took the video game world by storm, as From Software added another major, challenging entry in their game roster. Joining the likes of Dark Souls, Demon Souls, Sekiro, and Bloodborne, the Lands Between demanded a lot from player in attempting to become the next Elden Lord. Luckily, a new story is giving fans of the game the chance to take in the world without taking on challenges themselves, though this might not be the manga that many saw coming. Elden Ring: Going Forward, There Will Be Our Bond has a premise that will take you by surprise.

Elden Ring is no stranger to the world of manga, as a popular entry has been Elden Ring: The Road To The Erdtree. The series first started in 2022 and followed a character in The Lands Between as the protagonist sets out on his first journey. Created by manga artist Nikiichi Tobita, the creator of A Cursed Sword's Daily Life, this entry was a big entry point for the medium into From Software's latest universe. Following this manga series, the From Software game received an additional story in Elden Ring Become Lord manga which saw another "Tarnished" taking center stage. Elden Ring: Going Forward, There Will Be Our Bond will be much different than these two entries.

Elden Ring: A Streaming Manga

(Photo: Kadokawa & From Software)

Elden Ring: Going Forward, There Will Be Our Bond will follow two streamers that are playing the video game, making for quite the departure from the previous manga entries. The manga series will be printed by Kadokawa and will start its run on May 30th next month. Here's how Kadokawa describes the series that will take a fresh look at the Lands Between,

"A teenage school boy is spending his days playing video games, especially PvP, where he thrives & shares his sessions via live streaming. But one day out of the blue his classmate shares his struggles playing "Elden Ring" & the boy is impulsively stepping in to help him out. Ex Blizzard President Says Players Should be Able to Tip Money to Developers https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/blizzard-president-mike-ybarra-tipping-money-developers/ Sun, 14 Apr 2024 13:29:00 +0000 Marc Deschamps 582955db-fde1-49e3-a43c-dd61aea28bef

Tipping for services remains a hot topic of debate in America, as some believe that employees should be paid higher wages and the expectations surrounding tips should be erased altogether. That conversation took an interesting turn over the last few days, when former Blizzard president Mike Ybarra raised the idea of being able to tip developers for their work on certain video games. Ybarra cited games like Baldur's Gate 3, Elden Ring, and Horizon Zero Dawn as games he felt were worth more than the price he paid, and he felt tempted to give the studio something extra in return.

"When I beat a game, there are some that just leave me in awe of how amazing the experience was. At the end of the game, I've often thought 'I wish I could give these folks another $10 or $20 because it was worth more than my initial $70 and they didn't try to nickel and dime me every second,'" Ybarra wrote on Twitter.

Ybarra went on to note that "I realize we are tired of 'tipping' in everything else - but I view this different from a pressure to tip type scenario many face and give feedback on."

Why Tipping in Video Games Wouldn't Work

Unsurprisingly, these comments resulted in a lot of pushback on social media. There's already a lot of frustration around $70 video game prices, and many question whether the actual developers would even see these tips, or if they'd end up being taken by the publisher. That's not unfathomable either, as companies like Amazon have been accused of stealing tips that were supposed to be going to drivers; it's easy to see how that sort of thing could get abused in gaming, as well. Of course, some people scoffed at the idea of giving extra to the same video game companies that have been laying off employees left and right over the last year.

"Very excited to tip executives who just laid off all the people that make the games," wrote comedian and video game pundit Mike Drucker.

Are There Ways of Tipping Video Game Creators?

Thankfully, it seems unlikely that tipping in video games will ever become an expectation. However, fans that do want to show their support for video game creators can still do so in various ways. Post-game DLC is one of the best ways of doing just that; the player is not only giving the developer and publisher a bit extra, but it also signals to the company that there's interest in a potential sequel. Some individuals that work for studios also have Ko-fi accounts that fans can find listed on their social media profiles. These methods ensure that the money actually goes to the right place!
